LEGACY TRAINING CENTRE @ RED MOUNTAIN RESORT

Next Level Training Centre 2.0

SKI RACING IS A POWERFUL, DYNAMIC SPORT WHERE WINNERS AND LOSERS ARE SEPARATED BY MERE HUNDREDTHS OF A SECOND.

The Legacy Training Centre at Red Mountain Resort is the first all-new training Centre of its kind in years and has been purpose-built with racers, parents and coaches in mind. We want you to shave time and save time. We surveyed race families and ski teams from around the world to find out what really matters to them—and we incorporated these ideas into Legacy, one of the best new training Centres in North America. Red is the home of ski racing in Canada and this proud legacy of speed is where the new Centre gets its name.

GET REAL RED Mountain MEANS Racing Recreational skiers hailing from Red Mountain have always been revered for their speed. Why? Well, ski racing in Canada started on these very slopes back in 1897 when Olaus Jeldness organized a mass-start race down Red into Rossland. And that passion has never gone away. Since 1948, Red Mountain Racers, and its predecessor the Red Mountain Ski Club, have put 38 athletes on Canada’s National Ski Team. Twelve of these athletes have competed at the Olympics, with two (Nancy Greene Raine and Kerrin LeeGartner) capturing Gold!

For 6 consecutive Olympics, starting with Sarajevo in 1984, and concluding with Salt Lake in 2002, at least one Red Mountain Racer was there to carry Canada’s hopes on the slopes. In 2011, another Red Mountain Racer, Sasha Zaitsoff, became a member of the Canadian National Ski Team. We have a very proud history to build on and a fantastic future to look towards. For many years, Red Mountain racers have produced more National team members than any other club in Canada. Today we have dedicated and talented youth reaching for their goals and poised to

greet the world with the next Olympics. You can be part of this racing history by training at Red Mountain. The Red Mountain Racers and RED Mountain Resort annually host a variety of races. For the 2015 ski season RED will be hosting the TECK BC OPEN Race Series for U16/ U18/ U21 athletes January 15-18 and the FIS Keurig Cup Technical Series from March 6-10.

COACH’S CORNER Meet Legacy—Your New Secret Weapon

IMAGINE SHOWING UP TO A MID-WINTER RACE AND FEELING LIKE YOU’RE SKIING ON HOME TURF. Training at The Legacy Training Centre at RED will give you and your athletes that edge on the competition. You will train on the exact same slopes you’ll be racing on later in the season. Your quads will remember the pitch by the second gate and your brain won’t be far behind! Our venue boasts the incalculable advantage of Red Mountain itself, a very active slope that hosts FIS races every year. We’ve hosted a World Cup, NORAMs, and Provincial Championships.

ROSSLAND: REAL TOWN. REAL CLOSE. Dryland Doesn’t Have to be…Dry. Rossland, BC is a small alpine city of 3,500. And the best part is it’s only 4 kms from Legacy. Every year, active people make the move to Rossland because of its city-style offerings coupled with fresh mountain air. The historic town was built in the late 1800’s for the gold rush and has grown alongside Red Mountain in a sane and responsible way. Our vast terrain, reliable snow, and modern amenities would qualify Red Mountain as a Mega-resort in terms of size of the mountain, but we

have worked and planned diligently to retain the charm and vibe of yesteryear. It’s no wonder The New York Times voted RED and Rossland #8 on their “Best Places To Visit in 2013.” Fitness facilities, skating rinks, a movie theatre, sports shops, book stores…a session at Legacy isn’t the usual “ski, dryland, tune skis, repeat”. We believe that racers learn more—and go faster—when they’re having fun and you’d be hard pressed to find a venue that is more fun than Legacy. Rossland itself can be an island of calm for racers as well as their parents and coaches.

Aside from its picturesque front street (and multiple legit espresso offerings) Rossland is home to world-class physiotherapists, massage therapists, athletic therapists and more. It has a regional hospital located just 12 kms down the road with six orthopedic surgeons, 72 physicians, an on-site helipad, and all of the equipment you could possibly want in the event of an emergency. We’re serious about racing. And we’re even more serious about safety.

PARENTAL ADVISORY Bash Gates Not Your Sanity You know the drill… You travel all day—or more—to a race venue only to find that your “home” for the foreseeable future is a hodgepodge of experiences that never quite “click” and leave you frustrated after spending so much time and money on your young athletes. Have you ever felt like you or your kids spent more time on lifts than on-snow?

Did you have to choose whether to watch your son’s run OR your daughter’s due to logistical issues? Was the snow so variable that it seemed unfair? Did you only get WiFi in that one nasty corner by the staff restroom? Did it feel like you were always wasting time getting from A to B only to be told that you actually needed to be...at C?

Forget hockey moms! At Legacy we know that without race parents, there are no ski racers. Period. Few other sports require the parental involvement of U14 or U16 racing and few other sports require the kind of financial outlay and travel time that race families consider “normal.”

at legacy, you can... Work Remotely Instead of Being Remote Watch more than one child from your spot in the lodge with world-class sight lines. Sit inside and work on your laptop and then simply stand up and catch all of your child’s runs. Work remotely instead of being remote with our easy to access WiFi. All important amenities at Red & Legacy are a quick walk from each other. From restrooms to accommodations to meals and beyond, it’s all right here. No more wasting half the day schlepping through slush and riding multiple lifts. We’ll say it again: It’s all right here. Sneak off for a relaxing massage while your kids are bashing gates. We won’t tell.
