Nestled in the heart of central Alberta, this dynamic and warm-hearted community begs to be discovered! Spend time in our beautiful picnic parks or quiet nature campgrounds; challenge the 38 km of walking trails; cheer on your favourite team at our state of the arts recreational facilities, or take part in one of the numerous amazing community events such as Big Valley Jamboree and Jaywalkers Jamboree. Camrose County surrounds the City on all sides, and combined with the City of Camrose, boasts a population of over 27,000. Our businesses provide services to a trading population of 140,000 through rural Alberta going all the way to the Saskatchewan border. The top five largest ancestries for the area were Scandinavian, German, English, Scottish, and Irish, however now we take great pride in being a diverse multicultural community. Four Highways 13, 21, 26, 56 plus Secondary Highway 833 lead directly into Camrose. The CNR and CPR both provide daily rail service, and in fact share some common trackage. Camrose has a certified airport with a paved, lighted runway over 4,000 metres (4,500 ft. ) long; and the Edmonton International Airport is only a short drive away, just 72 km (46 miles). Stop in for a visit at the Bill Fowler Visitor Information Centre, and check out the 27 foot long hand-built replica of a Viking longship. The carved brick wall on the outside west entrance – the Bill Fowler Nature Mural entitled “Life Around the Lake”, depicts images from nature around Mirror Lake. Get acquainted with our past twenty educational and historic points of interest depicting the development stages of Camrose, are strategically placed along the three km walking paths surrounding the beautiful reflective Mirror Lake.
Mirror Lake Park is also the starting point of 38 km of paved/shale walking trails that wind gracefully through the Stoney Creek Valley and the central part of the city, presenting outstanding natural settings for picnics with the family, cycling, or long walks with your best friend.

If you like Museums, we have two splendid sites. The Camrose & District Centennial Museum features 13 heritage and replica buildings, brimming with extraordinary community artifacts including a running 1912 Case Steam Engine, along with many other antique vehicles, tractors and implements. Children and adults love to visit the one room school, the pioneer home, blacksmith shop, fire hall and many others. Annual events feature Miss Penny, a 1915 school teacher; blacksmiths and other p i o n e e r c h a ra c te rs . S u m m e r h o u rs Wednesday through Sunday from May 17 to labour day weekend from 10 am - 5 pm; Winter hours Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 12 noon to 4 pm. (Further details on page 13). The Heritage Railway Station and Park: Anything Trains! Wander inside the 1911 3rdClass station and tap-out a Morse code message on the telegraph key or have an authentic Victorian tea party in the marvellous King George room. Outside grounds are spectacular with bunkhouse, historical pictures and colourful gardens of old-fashioned heritage flowers. The Railway Garden, complete with model buildings and trains is surrounded by glorious roses. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm starting May 13 until the end of August. The Camrose Resort Casino offers 200 slot machines, 12 gaming tables, and a poker ro o m ; a n d r e g u l a r l y fe a t u r e s l i v e entertainment, so plan enough time to play the tables and then take in one of the many tribute/dinner theatres.
Rudy Swanson Recreation Park Home to several outdoor facilities including Kin Park Ball Diamonds, soccer pitches, tennis courts, basketball courts, beach volleyball courts, shale walking trails, the water spray park and skateboard park. This area contains a state-of-the-arts sports complex with two regulation-size ice surfaces, and connects to a 9 - lane curling rink, a third arena and the aquatic centre. Plan to be in Camrose on a Tuesday or Thursday evening during the summer months, enjoy a delicious ice-cream, and take a leisurely train ride along the picturesque shores of Mirror Lake.
Treasure Hunting by Geocaching Geocaching, a grown up game of hide and seek or treasure hunting, is less than 20 years old. It starts with someone hiding a waterproof container, called a geocache or cache, in the woods or in nature somewhere. The coordinates of the hidden cache are recorded with a GPS (Global Positioning System) unit and these are then logged in on a dedicated geocaching website. “Finders” go online and search for geocaches that might be in an area they are planning to visit or travel through. They log the cache locations into their own GPS. Then using only their GPS receiver they navigate to locate the cache. The challenge with finding a cache is that it could be the size of a shoebox or
the size of a tic-tac, it could be easy or camouflaged to look like a stump or a rock or a piece of discarded garbage. There are various levels of difficulty from 1 being the easiest and 5 being the most difficult. The rules for the Finders are simple: 1. Record the date and your “geocache code name” in the logbook provided inside the cache. 2. You may “take a treasure that is inside but must leave something in trade for it .” 3. When done, you must return the cache back exactly where you found it. 4. When home, log back in to the geocache on line site once again and record your find. Geocaching can take you to amazing and beautiful places, and is an anytime anyplace adventure. There are more than 2.5 million geocaches waiting to be found in over 180 countries around the world and there are several caches right here in the Camrose County. Nature Conservation Centre - In the summer of 2010,
Nature in the Making
Camrose County completed the reclamation of a decommissioned gravel pit and was innovative and forward thinking by incorporating numerous amenities to provide wildlife habitat and a community attraction. Camrose County hopes the Nature Conservation Centre will set the benchmark for all gravel pit reclamations as they believe this project epitomizes what environmentally friendly and beautiful results can emerge from such humble beginnings. After yielding approximately 500,000 cubic metres of gravel, this 37-acre now boasts a nature conservation centre, complete with stocked rainbow trout, children's playground and sand pit, walking trails, migrating and songs birds of the seasons, and picnic areas and day camping sites. A great place to get away from the busy-ness of life and listen to the silence of nature. Definitely an unsung jewel in the prairies! No reservation needed. See map page 42.

Alberta's Littlest Airport – Aviators check out this amazing model aircraft flying site complete with RC model aircraft supplies, just a short ½ hour drive east of the City of Camrose. Plan to attend the annual airshow during the July long weekend when we know for sure someone will be flying. Camping is available. Pleasure Island Fish Pond – Camrose & District Fish and Game Association recently completed a 2,112 foot walk, complete with two bridges around Pleasure Island Fish Pond. Families are welcome to sit a while, take in the scenic viewpoints, or stroll with their pets to catch various birding activities at 30 birdhouses along the path. Take Highway 13 east of Camrose for 3 km, turn south onto RG RD 195 for 1/2 mile. Pond is on the east side of the road. Little Beaver Lake – Offering up many recreational opportunities, Little Beaver Lake is open to kayakists and canoeists alike and a quiet campground is located on the shores. In the winter, sledders can be seen travelling across the frozen lake as they enjoy a day of fun and adventure. Abundant forested areas and wetlands surrounding the lake ensure that bird watching is at its best – where the chickadees are so friendly they will often eat out of your hand. Highway 21 south of Camrose turn into Town of Ferintosh, then onto MacQuarrie Avenue, then turn right onto McGill St. Lake is situated at the end of this street. Winter Activities
Outdoor ice skating is a popular family event in rural Camrose and the large flooded rinks on Mirror Lake right in the centre of the City create the perfect atmosphere for a sunny spin on your blades. Access Bill Fowler Mirror Lake Park Visitor Information Centre just north of 48th Ave near 53 St. Lots of space for vehicles in the parking lot and it is all free. Camrose has an additional 13 general public use outdoor rinks located throughout our residential community parks. Refer to: http://www.camrose.com/171/Outdoor-Rinks for current information on locations and conditions. All outdoor skating rinks are open for convenience.
Tobogganing: The beautiful terrain throughout Stoney Creek Valley running through the centre of the City, create natural deep sloping hills that are perfect for tobogganing. Two special hills in the valley are bordered with straw-bales to keep tobogganers safe from accidently sliding into traffic. Cross Country Skiing: Camrose is well known for its excellent Cross Country Skiing Trails - Trails are well maintained and groomed and provide excitement for both beginners to the more experienced skiers looking for additional challenges. No need to travel great distances to get started - some residents actually access a trail right outside their homes, which makes it easy and fun to stay in shape throughout the winter. General public access - please use Camrose Nordic Centre at Stoney Creek Valley - Access from 39 Ave., Parkview Drive. Up to 18 km loops, easy and intermediate. The annual Ole Uffda Classic Loppet (15 Km, 30 Km), or Ole's Fun Loopski for all kids (1.5 Km, 3 Km, 5 Km) is open to the public by registering for the run. The event is part of the Cross Country Alberta loppet series, and one you surely don't want to miss out on with our stunning trail system here in Camrose! Biathlon: U of A Augustana and the Camrose Ski Club maintain a Biathlon Range, access from Camrose Drive & 50 St. 32 shooting lanes for small bore rifles only.

Our Stoney Creek Valley also provides a perfect location for natural luging. 473 metres of ice track can be accessed from Camrose Nordic Centre.
