History comes alive at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, an open-air living history museum where costumed role-players recreate the life of east central Alberta’s early Ukrainian pioneers. Step back in time to 1892-1930 and hear real stories of triumphs and hardships in Canada's oldest and one-time largest bloc settlement of Ukrainian pioneers. Explore more than 30 historic structures by foot or hop on a free horse-drawn wagon. Make your experience complete with mouthwatering Ukrainian food. This summer, five newly restored historic buildings will open, including the Morecambe School, South River Teacher’s Shack, Luzan Post Office, along with the Grekul Barn and Granary. These structures will be formally unveiled on Monday, May 18 as part of the Celebration of Dance special event. This summer’s feature exhibit – Making the Grade: School life at the end of the 1920s – complements the formal unveiling of the Morecambe School and South River Teacher’s Shack. This exhibit, on display until Labour Day, examines the growth and development of two-room schools in Alberta. Explore the development of teacher training and teaching standards and other topics that elevated education standards across the province. Get an enhanced cultural or agricultural experience at our special events, which provide additional activities and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy.
