Make the fly shop your first stop. Joe and the crew will make sure you are outfitted for a successful trip. They have all of the licenses and the gear you need. Fly fishing instruction, fly rod and reel, flies, lunch, soft drinks and transportation are included in the price of your trip, so don’t worry you will be well taken care of.

You should also consider taking the Cantrell’s up on their drift boat and raft rentals. They will shuttle you to and from, and the cafe will fix your lunch.

And when the sun starts to set, you can put your feet up at the Lodge. Watch the Clark fork river trail off into the sunset while you sip your favorite beverage, and cast a line or two to test your luck. The Lodge is modern and sits on the banks of the Clark Fork. Relax in the jacuzzi, wade in the river, sit on the beach, or take in a game of horse shoes. The evenings are cool and the beds are comfortable.

ere’s a place where ghostly trains still run on time, a place where mountains live large, where rivers crash through timeless gorges, and where folks still take time to get to know you.

Welcome to Alberton, Montana, an old railroad town without a railroad, but still with plenty to offer. Alberton is the gateway to the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork River, western Montana’s best white water rafting, not to mention some of the best fly fishing anywhere. Keren runs the book store with help ffrom Scarlet the cat and other members of the family. Her father ran it before her, until 1981. Many of the books are ones he picked up on bicycle trips across the British Isles.

Keren says: “My aim is to get as many books as possible into the hands of the people who will love them the most. Running a used book store with old books that are sometimes hard to find is a public service, like a museum or a library. There’s value in just having those books there for the public to look at, even if they don’t take them home.”
