CITY HISTORY

The City of Grosse Pointe Woods was originally incorporated in 1927 and was known as the Village of Lochmoor. In 1939, the Village of Lochmoor became the Village of Grosse Pointe Woods and on December 11, 1950, was incorporated as the City of Grosse Pointe Woods, a Home Rule City. The city covers an area of 3.28 square miles.

Lake Front Park, located at 23000 E Jefferson, is a year round facility which offers many activities for Grosse Pointe Woods families. The facilities include an Olympic size pool, wading & baby pools, waterslide, 780 feet of boardwalk, fishing terrace, a large playscape, an outdoor basketball court, 2 bocce courts, and 2 shuffleboard courts, a volleyball court and 10 outdoor tennis courts. The Activities Building offers: Gym halfcourt basketball, Racquetball court and you can also play pool, foosball, air hockey, indoor shuffleboard, ping-pong, darts, bocce ball, or use the treadmills & exercise bicycles. There is also a marina, walking path and dog park.

CHENE-TROMBLY PARK

Corner of Ridgemont and Mack Avenue. Play area designed primarily for children under 12 years of age. An ice rink is maintained in the winter.

GHESQUIERE PARK

20025 Mack Plaza, behind City Hall. Play area designed for children of all ages with stands of mature trees and picturesque natural settings. Also includes baseball diamonds, mini soccer fields, roller hockey in the summer and an ice rink in the winter.

JULES DE PORRE PARK

Corner of Anita and Goethe, near Mason School, a pocket park.

SWEENEY PARK

Public access is through Ford Court, Baltree Court, Clairview Court, and Faircourt. Play area designed primarily for children under 12 years of age. An ice rink is maintained in the winter.
