COVID-19 MANAGEMENT

We look foward to seeing you! www.aurora.ca/COVID19 The health and safety of our facility users and staff is our top priority. All programs, events and services will run in compliance with current Provincial and Regional Health Department guidelines and regulations. All programs and services are subject to change. Here is what we are doing to keep everyone safe. In accordance with Provincial legislation, the Town of Aurora is required to ask for proof of vaccination from those born in 2009 or prior who are entering our Recreation centres. Please visit aurora.ca/vaccinations for full details.

2 metres physical distancing will be maintained where possible.

Limited access into the building to those who are there to participate in an activity. A greeter will be at the main doors of our facilities to ensure patrons entering are registered for an activity/permit and to conduct a health screening.

Signage, markers, arrows and alternate exits throughout the buildings to help direct users, encourage physical distancing, and maintain one-way traffic where possible.

Hand sanitizer stations throughout the buildings. Limited use of changerooms. Pre-registration will be required for all participation. This includes activities that were previously “drop-in” in nature such as lane swim, fitness classes, leisure skate, etc. More details are throughout this guide.

A preliminary health screening questionnaire will be required when a participant pre-registers for an activity.

Customer service counters will have plexiglass barriers.

Every person entering the facility must wear a mask as per York Region’s guidelines. Exceptions apply when participating in a physical activity. Facility cleaning and sanitization will take place frequently, especially for high touch areas and shared equipment.

Note: We reserve the right to cancel, amend or change activities. Programs may transfer locations virtually to Zoom. Community Services Program Guide | Spring & Summer 2022

The blanket is a modular knit (knit all in one piece, join as you go, no seaming) in garter stitch (knit every row) and great for using up stash. It is a formula style design which allows you to be creative with your own colours, yarn weight and size. The final colour selections for your blanket can be made later. This class will acquaint you with the techniques and construction, and give you a chance to practice. Participants should be proficient in basic knitting skills of casting on and simple knit stitch, however this class does not require advanced skills. Pick-up a supply list from the ASC and bring these supplies to your first class.

PARKS & TRAILS PEDESTRIAN TRAIL SYSTEM The Town of Aurora is fortunate to have an extensive pedestrian trail system which connects many of its neighbourhood parks, Town facilities and open space corridors. Presently the Town maintains approximately 62 kilometers of trails. Come out and enjoy a leisurely hike through the natural valley land setting of mixed forests, meadows and wetland habitats of the Holland River Valley. This is Aurora’s longest trail corridor stretching from Evans Park on Bayview Avenue south of Vandorf Sideroad all the way up to St. John’s Sideroad and includes the Tim Jones Trail (Nokiidaa Trail), the Klaus Wehrenberg Trail as well as the Sheppard’s Bush trails. These trails link municipal facilities such as the Town Hall, the Senior’s Centre and the Aurora Family Leisure Complex, as well as the Aurora Community, Sheppard’s Bush, and Lambert Willson Park. Other significant trails include the Lakeview/Willow Farm Trail located within the forested hills of St. Andrews in northwest Aurora, the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve Trail in the Marsh Creek valley lands of northeast Aurora, and currently under construction, the Highland Gate trail in the former Highland Gates Golf Course lands. All Aurora trails are considered multi-use, with the primary focus being pedestrian hikers. Opportunities also exist for cross country skiers. The majority of our trails are compact gravel surfaces with some asphalt sections through neighbourhood and community parks. Please note that our trails are not groomed or maintained during winter months, and conditions vary widely. Surface conditions can change dramatically during the winter to create potentially hazardous hiking and skiing conditions. All users are advised to respect other trail users, to stay on designated trails and to exercise caution at all times. COMMUNITY PARKS & SPORTS FACILITIES The town currently has over 75 parks and open space areas including 44 playgrounds encompassing over 700 acres, 4 children’s water-play splash pads, 35 soccer fields, 18 ball diamonds and a wide variety of other recreational activities. Please come out and enjoy what Aurora has to offer! Full details at www.aurora.ca/parksandtrails DAVID TOMLINSON NATURE RESERVE (WILDLIFE PARK) On October 23, 2020 Town Council unveiled a new trail sign and officially re-named the Wildlife Park as the “David Tomlinson Nature Reserve” in honour of David Tomlinson who has been instrumental in the protection and creation of the nature reserve. The David Tomlinson Nature Reserve consists of marshland, openwater ponds, meadows and forests in the Marsh Creek valley lands located between Bayview Avenue and Leslie Street, north of Wellington Street East. Main access points include the Stronach Aurora Recreation Centre and Johnathan Bales Parkette. Park users should note that much of the nature reserve contains environmentally sensitive areas and habitat for many species of flora and fauna, and the intent is to restrict pedestrian access to these areas to allow nature to flourish. We request that park users stay on the trails and respect the truly unique features that are contained within

the nature reserve. Viewing platforms have been provided at two critical locations and have been designed to screen pedestrians from wildlife that would otherwise be startled should pedestrians remain in plain view. Additional native trees and shrubs will be planted over the next few years to help buffer pedestrian activity from environmentally sensitive areas. MEMORIAL TREE & PARK BENCH DEDICATION PROGRAM Would you like to establish “Lasting Roots” in your community? Are you looking for a unique gift idea for that special person or occasion? Perhaps you feel like making an investment in greening your community? If so, we encourage you to contact the Parks Division to find out more about the memorial tree planting and park bench dedication program. Please call 905-727-3123 ext. 3233 or email eharrison@aurora.ca. AURORA ADOPT-A-PARK IS YOUR CHANCE TO GROW WITH THE COMMUNITY Did you know that the Adopt-A-Park program provides local businesses, community groups and residents with the opportunity to enhance the environment and beautify our town by assisting with the maintenance and developement of Aurora’s parks and trail systems? Adopt-A-Park continues to: • Create opportunities for citizens to support our parks and green spaces. • Share the responsibility for a clean community. • Develop opportunities for youth involvement. • Build community pride and a sense of ownership in our parklands. There are a number of ways to become involved in this exciting program. Please contact the Parks Division at 905-727-3123 ext. 3233 for further information or email eharrison@aurora.ca.

English & French Casa (2.5 years old – 6 years old) 14 Stone Road, Aurora, ON, L4G 6X9 Phone: (905) 726-2110 www.victoriaeducationcentre.com aurora@victoriaeducationcentre.com

Toddler (18 months – 2.5 years old)

The Toddler Program provides an environment where the children develop their gross-motor skills, vocabulary, and independence and receive aid in their toileting. It is a warm, nurturing environment with a low 1:5 teacher-student ratio. Learning materials are on a very small scale with even the furniture suited to small bodies. There are napping facilities for those who stay full day. This program prepares the students for life in the Casa environment and gives them a safe environment in which to explore freely.

At Victoria Montessori School we believe the child’s development thrives in a warm, loving and caring prepared Montessori environment. The English Casa program is designed for children 2.5 to 6 years old enriching a child’s social, emotional and academic development. The classroom is divided into ve areas Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math and Language. Each area allows the child to grow based on their inner ability to thrive. The Montessori environment allows the child the ability to follow their sense of order, curiosity and freedom of movement in a prepared environment. As the child explores their environment, their ability to grow independently, build conndence and explore their curiosity will encourage a strong academic growth and develop the child into a well-rounded individual.
