While the municipality’s Aurora Town Square construction project is underway, we continue to work offsite at venues throughout the community. The Centre’s Art Gallery, selected Educational Programs and Administrative Offices are temporarily located at Aurora Town Hall, 100 John West Way, Aurora, ON. Performing Arts events, and additional Educational Programs are presented at venues throughout Aurora. Please see location information for each program. Great Artist Music Series Mark Fewer & John Novak

Legendary Canadian violinist Mark Fewer is known as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral leader, jazz musician and artistic programmer. He is joined by renowned pianist John Novacek, who is known for touring the world, performing with dozens of leading international orchestras in world-class venues.

Backwards and Forwards: Reflections in Porcupine Quills

A solo exhibition by Vanessa Dion Fletcher Curated by Aram Han Sifuentes

Recent quillworks (2020-present), ranging from intimate pieces on paper to large mural installations, at the core is a negotiation between the artist’s hands and porcupine quills.

Vanessa Dion Fletcher is a Lenape and Potawatomi neurodiverse Artist. Her family is from Eelūnaapèewii Lahkèewiitt (displaced from Lenapehoking) and European settlers.

Together in Spirit: Dialogue in Image A duo exhibition featuring Dazaunggee and Ted Fullerton

“What is said within the painted conversation should also be said in words and in public no matter how difficult the social situation presents itself in life.” – Ted & Paul

Artists Ted Fullerton and Dazaungee (Paul) Shilling befriended each other in the early nineties based on their mutual respect and shared work in the arts. In 2018, the artists met again after years apart. Naturally conversing on themes such as colonial domination, oppression, aesthetic sensibilities, as well as their personal life experiences, the artists decided to continue their conversation in visual form. Each artist creates a statement in painting for the other, who responds reciprocally.

Inspirations From a Space of Healing

Co-curated by the Aurora Historical Society and the Aurora Cultural Centre

A multisite exhibition located at the Hilary House National Historic Site and the Centre’s temporary home at Aurora Town Hall (2nd floor). Featuring work by artists of the Society of York Region Artists, this exhibition looks to artifacts within the Hilary House National Historic site for inspiration. You Can Uke It! with Anthony Clayton (B.A. Hons., B.Ed., Orff)

 Ages 8+ Embark on your musical journey with the ukulele, the perfect ‘starter’ instrument. Learn all of the basics, such as chords and strum patterns through a variety of familiar songs. No previous musical experience necessary – just bring a ukulele in working order and a notebook.

Wood Carving with Marlene Ash

Learn to carve and achieve satisfying results as you create pieces in relief and in the round. Appropriate for the absolute beginner to the experienced carver. Learn safe and skillful use of the knife, gouges, and other tools. A $75.00 materials fee includes your own new knife, wood blanks and safety glove, as well as all supplementary resources. Nominal fee for returning students to pay for wood blanks, etc. A fully refundable deposit of $100.00 is required at the start of the program for use of on loan gouges. Materials fee and fully refundable deposit payable to instructor on first day of class.

Ukulele for Beginners with Anthony Clayton (B.A. Hons., B.Ed., Orff)

Want to get happy? Learn to play the oh-so-hip ukulele! Come to this ground level introductory course – no musical theory required. You will learn all the basics: the most commonly used chords, standard tuning, and simple strumming techniques. By the end, you’ll be able to play all of your favourite songs. Bring a ukulele in working order and a notebook.

A one-day workshop on the basics of reading light, framing, using rule of thirds and other techniques to achieve striking images. All About Etching with Katie Argyle

In this introductory workshop, students will use a small press to create prints by scratching into plexiglass with a needle, inking and wiping the surface, and then printing onto damp printmaking paper with the press.
