Here’s your chance to test your skills and learn new ones. Start each class learning and practicing a new skill or technique, then finish off having a blast as you face off against your fellow participants. On the final day, come out for a fun round robin tournament.

KIDS GREAT MINDS – INTRO TO JAVA PROGRAMMING FOR BEGINNERS Age: 11 to 14 years Location: Online

This course will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. Participants will be introduced to the fundamental principles of object-oriented programming. They will create 3D games and animations using a drag and drop interface which will help eliminate the frustration of syntax which will help the transition into text based coding in Java. Required: a computer (Mac or PC), microphone and speakers. An email will be sent with a link to join, as well as software instructions. *No class on: Feb 14

KIDS GREAT MINDS – CODE WITH RUBY: INTRO TO SYNTAX PROGRAMMING Age: 12 to 15 years Location: Online

This course will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. Through programming their versions of Agar.io, Snake, Asteroids and more, participants will build foundational knowledge for written programming languages. Ruby has very easy syntax (text based), reads as English and is a good introduction for new programmers or those who want to transition from drag and drop coding. Required: a computer (Mac or PC), microphone and speakers. An email will be sent with a link to join, as well as software instructions. *No class on: Feb 14

Looking for a job or struggling to get an interview? This one-day program will teach you how to fill out a job application, build your resume, learn important interview skills and find out how to impress a prospective employer.

Participate in fun activities and gain hands-on practice in this Red Cross course. This Red Cross program offers basic first aid and safety skills for youth. Participants learn about being safe when they are without the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or trusted adult, both at home and in their communities.

LEADERS IN PLAY Age: 14 to 17 years Location: AFLC

This two-day leadership crash course mixes the fundamentals of physical literacy with basic leadership skills. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary in order to volunteer in our seasonal recreation programs for the next session. Our engaging and experienced instructor will walk participants through coaching basics, exciting leadership exercises and provide an introduction to physical literacy. opportunity to stock their ever-growing toolkit. Successful completion of this two-day course will result in placement as a volunteer in a Spring 2021 recreation program. Note: Placements must occur in the seasonal programs that take place directly after the training course. Community Recognition Awards

Youth Volunteer Award Open to teens ages 19 and under

The Town of Aurora recognizes and honours volunteers who help create a community where individuals, groups and businesses actively support the Town’s development and enhance the overall community. As part of the annual Community Recognition Awards, the Youth Volunteer Award is presented to a citizen up to the age of 19, who through their volunteer efforts, has made a significant contribution to the community and has demonstrated their commitment to being a positive leader today and in the future.
