COVID-19 MANAGEMENT

We look foward to seeing you! www.aurora.ca/COVID19 The health and safety of our facility users and staff is our top priority. All programs, events and services will run in compliance with current Provincial and Regional Health Department guidelines and regulations. All programs and services are subject to change. Here is what we are doing to keep everyone safe. In accordance with Provincial legislation, the Town of Aurora is required to ask for proof of vaccination from those born in 2009 or prior who are entering our Recreation centres. Please visit aurora.ca/vaccinations for full details.

Limited access into the building to those who are there to participate in an activity.

Signage, markers, arrows and alternate exits throughout the buildings to help direct users, encourage physical distancing, and maintain one-way traffic where possible.

A greeter will be at the main doors of our facilities to ensure patrons entering are registered for an activity/permit and to conduct a health screening.

Hand sanitizer stations throughout the buildings.

Limited use of changerooms. Pre-registration will be required for all participation. This includes activities that were previously “drop-in” in nature such as lane swim, fitness classes, leisure skate, etc. More details are throughout this guide.

A preliminary health screening questionnaire will be required when a participant pre-registers for an activity.

Customer service counters will have plexiglass barriers.

Every person entering the facility must wear a mask as per York Region’s guidelines. Exceptions apply when participating in a physical activity. Facility cleaning and sanitization will take place frequently, especially for high touch areas and shared equipment.

Note: We reserve the right to cancel, amend or change activities. Programs may transfer locations virtually to Zoom. Community Services Program Guide | Winter 2022

MAYOR & COUNCIL

MAYOR’S MESSAGE Welcome to the Winter 2022 Program Guide The Winter 2022 Program Guide contains a great variety of information about community activities and programs such as swimming, fitness and recreation classes. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we offer classes. To reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Town facilities and staff will be following provincial guidelines to ensure the health and safety of our patrons. We will also be offering a variety of in-person and virtual classes to all residents and non-residents. Discover the many parks and trails around Aurora. The Town currently manages over 62 parks encompassing more than 800 acres. Many of the parks are connected to an intricate trail system of approximately 62 kilometres designed to accommodate joggers, hikers and cross country skiers. The first phase of the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve is now open which includes a trail system extending from the Stronach Aurora Recreation Centre (SARC) on Wellington Street East up to Johnathan Bales Parkette on Hartwell Way, including several boardwalks and viewing platforms overlooking the ponds and wetlands. The second phase of the reserve is scheduled for construction in 2022 and includes wetland features and additional trail connections. To download a copy of Aurora’s Streets, Parks & Trails Map please visit aurora.ca/parksandtrails.

Constellations Emily Carriere • Solo Exhibition and Sale Constellations is a solo exhibition presenting the intricate and colourful vinyl and acrylic artworks by award-winning emerging artist Emily Carriere. Through experimentation and intuition, Carriere’s creates abstract images with intricately cut and layered patterns and shapes. Carriere values the process of creating as much as the final content and is continuously reworking and reimagining her ever evolving pieces. The artwork in this exhibition is immediately attractive with its bright colours, sparkly shine, and use of organic and repeating symmetrical designs. We are thrilled to be hosting Carriere’s first solo exhibition outside of Toronto on our website with in-person viewing to be determined. PRIVATE & GROUP LESSONS

Note: The Town strives to ensure a safe return to sport and is starting to phase towards regular programming. As of Winter 2022, support persons will no longer be required in the swimming pool during Preschool and Swimmer programs. A support person will still be required for Parent and Tot programs. This change aligns with Public Health recommendations where “it is expected students maintain a physical distance of at least two metres from every other person in the instructional space, except where necessary for teaching and instruction that cannot be effectively provided if physical distancing is maintained”.

INSTRUCTOR REQUESTS

The Town of Aurora is an equal opportunity employer and as such is committed to recognizing and celebrating the diversity of talent and expertise that make each person unique. The Aquatics division is pleased to offer instructor requests and we will do our best to accommodate your respective requests. However please note the Town does not discriminate instructors based on traits within the Ontario Human Rights Code. Please contact the respective Aquatics Coordinator (AFLC or SARC) with your request. Community Services Program Guide | Winter 2022

PARKS & TRAILS PEDESTRIAN TRAIL SYSTEM The Town of Aurora is fortunate to have an extensive pedestrian trail system which connects many of its neighbourhood parks, Town facilities and open space corridors. Presently the Town maintains approximately 62 kilometers of trails. All Aurora trails are considered multi-use, with the primary focus being pedestrian hikers. Opportunities also exist for cross-country skiers. The majority of our trails are compact gravel surfaces with some asphalt sections through neighbourhood and community parks. All users are advised to respect other trail users, to stay on designated trails and to exercise caution at all times. Note: Our trails are not groomed or maintained during winter months, and conditions vary widely. Surface conditions can change dramatically during the winter to create potentially hazardous hiking and skiing conditions. OUTDOOR WINTER SKATING The Town currently constructs four outdoor ice skating rinks within our neighbourhood parks. These are located at Town Park, Confederation Park, Machell Park and Ada Johnson Park. The ice rinks consists of a natural surface and are weather permitting, with construction typically taking place in the early New Year. All rinks are lit for evening skating and are mixed use; with hockey and pleasure skating taking place on the same rink. We ask users to respect others and wear protective gear at all times while on the ice. Note: Please check the Town of Aurora’s website for regular updates, due to changing COVID-19 regulations. TOBOGGANING Due to the undulating topography in the Town, it is common for residents to utilize non-designated areas for tobogganing. The Town does not recommend using these areas as dangers are prevalent. Tobogganing is permitted in the following dedicated areas: Fleury Park (south of Aurora Heights Dr. and the ACC parking lot), Machell Park (north of the parking area on the west side of the park), AFLC Lambert Willson Park (along the east side of the building) and Copland Park (along the north side of the park). Tobogganers are reminded that these designated locations are unsupervised by the Town and surface areas can vary widely with ice and other hazardous conditions. All tobogganers using these facilities do so at their own risk. Children should be supervised by an adult and all participants should use appropriate safety equipment. Note: Please check the Town of Aurora’s website for regular updates, due to changing COVID-19 regulations. PARK BENCH DONATION PROGRAM In response to requests from our residents who are regular users of our parks and trails, the Operational Services Department is pleased to provide a Park Bench Donation Program. You can be part of the program and partner with the Parks Division in donating a park bench, with a personalized message of your choice which will be adhered to the bench. Your bench will be installed in a location of your choice in our parks or trails system and our staff will ensure that your bench receives the care and maintenance it deserves for years to come. Our Park Bench Donation Program would make a great gift for that special person who is hard to buy for and will truly be a gift that keeps on giving to all of those in need of a place to rest in our parks and along our trail system. For more information on the Park Bench Donation Program, please visit the Town of Aurora website. Note: This program is currently on-hold; we are not accepting any new applications until Spring of 2022.

MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM The Town of Aurora has a Memorial Tree Planting policy to enable the planting or designation of memorial trees on municipal lands within the Town. For more information on the Memorial Tree Planting Policy, please visit the Town of Aurora website. AURORA ADOPT-A-PARK IS YOUR CHANCE TO GROW WITH THE COMMUNITY Over 700 acres of Parkland, an outstanding Trail System and friendly tree-lined streets contribute to Aurora’s natural beauty and make it a place we are proud to call home. Did you know that the Adopt-A-Park program provides local businesses, community groups and residents with the opportunity to enhance the environment and beautify our town by assisting with the maintenance and developement of Aurora’s parks and trail systems? Adopt-A-Park continues to: • Create opportunities for citizens to support our parks and green spaces. • Share the responsibility for a clean community. • Develop opportunities for youth involvement. • Build community pride and a sense of ownership in our parklands. Including tree and shrub plantings, there are a number of ways for individuals, interested groups and organizations to become involved in this exciting program. Please contact the Parks Division at 905-727-3123 ext. 3233 for further information or email cwright@aurora.ca.

For more information, please contact the Parks Division at 905-727-3123 ext. 3233 or by email at cwright@aurora.ca 64
