LIFESAVING SOCIETY SWIM FOR LIFE® INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS East Gwillimbury is proud to partner with the Lifesaving Society to provide high-quality swim lessons for our residents. Swim for Life® is a complete learn-to-swim program from Parent & Tot through to Leadership. You’re never too young to start, and never too old to learn. Swim for Life® offers different strokes for different folks – of all ages and abilities.

WHAT TO WEAR Proper bathing attire means clothing used for swimming only. No street clothes or undergarments allowed. Participants who are not toilet-trained must wear swim diapers. Regular diapers (disposable or cloth) are not permitted. SHOWERS All swimmers must shower thoroughly with soap and water before entering the pool. OUTDOOR SHOES Outdoor shoes are not permitted in the changerooms or on the pool deck. Hallway space is available for storage of outdoor shoes. CHANGEROOMS Both men’s and women’s changerooms are available. STROLLERS Strollers are not permitted in the changerooms or on the pool deck. VIEWING AREA Swimming lessons can be observed from the designated area of the pool deck. The pool deck is accessed through the changerooms. One spectator per participant is permitted. Indoor footwear is required to be on pool deck.

PHOTOS AND VIDEOS To minimize distractions and protect the privacy of participants, photos/videos may only be taken on Parent’s Day. Taking photos/videos in changerooms is prohibited. FOOD AND BEVERAGES Food and beverages are not permitted on the pool deck or in the changerooms. PARENT’S DAY Join us during the fifth lesson of each session to speak with your child’s instructor at the end of the class and check in on their progress. Photos are permitted on Parent’s Day.

Through structured in-water interaction between parent and child, we stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. PRESCHOOL LESSONS Give your child a head start on learning to swim. The Lifesaving Society Preschool Program develops an appreciation and healthy respect for the water before these kids get in too deep. In our basic aquatic progressions we work to ensure 3 to 5-year olds become comfortable in the water and have fun acquiring and developing a foundation of water skills. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education in all Preschool levels.

6 to 12 years These intermediate swimmers will swim 5 m underwater and lengths of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. Their new bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard. They’ll cap it all off with front crawl sprints over 25 m and 4 x 25 m front or back crawl interval training. Day

SWIMMER 5/6 6 to 12 years

Swimmer 5: These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. They’ll refinet their front and back crawl over 50 m swims of each, and breaststroke over 25 m. Then they’ll pick up the pace in 25 m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50 m front or back crawl; and 4 x 15 m breaststroke. Swimmer 6: These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They’ll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25 m. They’ll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, and they’ll complain about the 300m workout. Swimmer 7: Participants learn eggbeater kick, scissor kick, and how to do a backward somersault. They’ll refine their front and back crawl by swimming 50 metres of each, and will improve their breaststroke over a 25 metre swim. Swimmer 8: Participants will be challenged with stride entries, compact jumps, and lifesaving kicks. They will learn how to add in arm movements with their scissor kick to complete sidestroke as well as complete a 300 metre mixed stroke workout. Day

PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS ABC FITNESS — 3-5 years This class will incorporate learning new skills (A,B,C’s, counting, colours, etc) while having fun being active! Preschoolers will benefit from social interactions with others, healthy growth and development, better selfesteem, stronger bones, muscles and joints, better posture and balance and a stronger heart. No parent/guardian participation required. BALLET — 3-5 years In this program your child will develop the grace and creativity that Ballet is. Your child will learn the proper arm and leg positions as well as several ballet routines that will transform your little one into a Ballerina. Dress Code: Body suit, tights, ballet shoes & long hair in a pony tail. LITTLE KICKERS - KARATE — 3-5 years This program presents an opportunity for participants to become actively involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan Karate. The Karate sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association (IKA Canada). A friendly, encouraging atmosphere will be created to make it an enjoyable and fun experience. A Karate GI (uniform) will be supplied as part of the registration cost. DIAPER DAREDEVILS — Walking-3 years The “Diaper Daredevils” program is designed to introduce children who can walk up until 3 years to the basic patterns of human body movement in a fun and engaging environment. Parents facilitate their child through circuits and obstacles courses designed specifically for this level by our certified staff. Here kids learn how to jump, climb, swing and land safely, as well as interact with other children. Each class runs for 45 min. once per week. This program is run in partnership with the Pulsars Gymnastics Club. 1206 Ringwell Dr #1, Newmarket, ON L3Y 8V9

SPORTBALL — PARENT & CHILD MULTI-SPORT — 2-3 years Parents/caregivers have a direct hand in their pre-schooler’s development through this unique Multi-Sport program. With the active support and participation of their grownup, children are able to refine their skills and continue their social and physical development such as balance and coordination by participating in eight popular sports: hockey, soccer, football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, golf and tennis. Under the guidance of our expert Coaches, grownups also understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Sportball maintains a one-parent-per-child ratio policy in all Parent & Child programs to ensure that focus is kept on helping little ones practice and progress. We have included a ball for each participant in our registration fee so that parents can safely disinfect them each week. Please be sure to decorate your ball with your child’s name using a permanent marker. SPORTBALL – SOCCER — 4-6 years Sportball soccer classes are packed with high-energy fun, using imaginative coaching techniques and a continuous flow of new drills and non-competitive games to keep things rolling along. All Sportball programs are designed to grow with your child and re-enrollment is encouraged. We have included a ball for each participant in our registration fee so that parents can safely disinfect them each week. Please be sure to decorate your ball with your child’s name using a permanent marker. TINY TUMBLERS — 4-6 years This independent program is designed to develop basic gymnastics skills in a safe and fun environment. Participants will be guided through circuits and obstacle courses using real gymnastics equipment! All coaches are fully trained by the National Coaching Certification Program. This program is run in partnership with the Pulsars Gymnastics Club.

LOOK AT ME I AM 3 — 3 years The “Look at me, I’m 3” program is designed to allow children to become more independent in movement situations. Children follow the instruction of a certified coach without their parents’ participation. The coach will take them through a fun and engaging warm-up followed by basic introduction to the events of gymnastics using a “circuit” format, teaching large and small motor skills in a variety of situations. Focus will be on self-confidence & social interaction. This program is run in partnership with the Pulsars Gymnastics Club. 1206 Ringwell Dr #1, Newmarket, ON L3Y 8V9 PARENT AND ME — 2-4 years This program is designed to introduce children to the basic patterns of human body movement. SPORTBALL — MULTI-SPORT — 3-5 years Sportball is a dynamic sports program focusing on skill development in eight different sports, namely soccer, basketball, hockey, tennis, baseball, volleyball, football and golf. This creative, non-competitive and self-esteem-building program prepares all children for a future of confident sports participation. CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAMS DRAW, PAINT & SCULPT — 9-13 years Children will explore their creativity and discover their talents while learning art skills and techniques in drawing, painting and sculpting. Join Artist Donna Burwell-Stevens to learn about famous artists and to create portraits, still life, landscapes and more! INTRO TO KARATE — 7-12 years This program presents an opportunity for participants to become actively involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan Karate. The Karate sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association (IKA Canada). A friendly, encouraging atmosphere will be created to make it an enjoyable and fun experience. A Karate GI (uniform) will be supplied as part of the registration cost. JAZZ — 5-8 years For those who enjoy creativity and movement this is the class for you. Participants will not only learn the fundamentals, positions and technical movements that are required in Jazz dance, but they will also develop strength, style, flexibility, coordination and gain a sense of rhythm and musicality. Dress Code: body suit, tights, ballet shoes or bare feet & hair in a pony tail. TENNIS FOR KIDS - ORANGE BALL — 9-11 years In partnership with the tennis club, Orange ball focuses on the basics and fundamentals of tennis with the emphasis on having FUN. Equipment and court size is geared specifically for this age group. Juniors will be introduced to tennis related games and activities allowing them to master the basics of tennis. Our coaches are Tennis Canada certified and classes will have a maximum of 6 participants. Participants must come with their own age/size appropriate racket. TENNIS FOR KIDS - RED BALL — 6-8 years In partnership with the tennis club, children are introduced to tennis using age and size appropriate equipment designed to make tennis fun and easy to learn. Red ball emphasizes team play and good sportsmanship. Our coaches are Tennis Canada certified and classes will have a maximum of 6 participants. Participants must come with their own age/size appropriate racket.

KGM - ADVENTURES IN INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMING WORKSHOP — 8-12 years Ever played whack-a-mole with playdough, or the piano with bananas, now you can! Participants will explore the STEAM world through coding, designing their own games and musical instruments and creating game controllers. Participants will code with Scratch (from MIT), create controllers with Makey Makey Boards and household items, and will learn coding concepts such as loops, if statements and variables as well as basic electricity principles and more, in a fun, imaginative, and logical way. This program will enhance your child’s creativity and bring their inspiring stories to life. In this program, your child will learn story-boarding, create short computer animated cartoons, television shows or movies, and develop logical thinking skills. KGM KINDY CARTOON WORKSHOP — 5-7 years This course is geared towards young animators, introducing them to the fun and creative world of cartoon animation and STEAM. Children will learn to create simple and fun animations, helping them develop logical and fine motor skills, stimulating creativity and selfexpression. All equipment provided by KGM. KIDDOS KICK — 5-7 years This fast -moving kicks and punching class will build physical skills like speed, agility, balance and coordination. Kids will also benefit from learning self defense, getting a full body workout, develop strong mental skills (confidence, focus, control) and have FUN! BASKETBALL DROP IN — 16+ FAMILY DROP IN — All ages FLOOR HOCKEY DROP IN — 7-14 years

HOME ALONE — 9-12 years In partnership with SOS4Kids, this Home Alone program prepares children aged 9-12 years to be on their own at home or elsewhere for short periods of time. Course content includes online safety and internet luring, fire safety, street smarts, stranger and not-so-stranger danger, first aid, and step-by-step home alone readiness plans. This virtual program is instructor led on Zoom with 4, 1 hour 15 minute sessions. 100% attendance is required to receive certification. Manual and certification will be mailed to participants upon program completion. BABYSITTING — 11-15 years In Partnership with SOS4Kids, The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency. LINE DANCING - ALL LEVELS Our instructor will walk you through the steps of traditional and country line dancing. All fitness levels welcome. MOVE YOUR BODY Join our instructor for a fun, dynamic workout geared to your fitness level and ability. This program incorporates resistance bands, kettlebells and hand-held weights for a low-impact muscleconditioning workout designed to help improve strength, mobility, and flexibility. As the program progresses, you’ll try new exercises and build on your progress. PILATES Power your way through a focused Pilates session that will burn away fat and tone muscles. This workout emphasizes balance, control and core strength for optimal fat burning, as well as traditional Pilates mat work. TENNIS - ADULT 55+ BEGINNER Beginner lessons will focus on the technical aspects of tennis. Participants will learn about proper grips, forehands, backhands, volleys and serves. Our instructor will guide you through a variety of sequences where each movement is synchronized with your breathing to create a sense of flow. Yoga Flow is ideal for helping to build muscle strength and endurance, while improving balance and overall cardiovascular fitness. YOGA - HATHA  An introduction to Hatha Yoga is designed for students who are either new or returning to yoga. You will be guided by our instructor to gently explore basic postures and simple breathing techniques, followed by guided relaxation. Yoga imporoves your tone, helps strengthen and balance the body, and is ideal for counteracting the stresses of daily life. YOGA - YIN - NEW!  Yin is a slower-paced, meditative style of yoga where postures are held for longer periods of time than in other traditional styles. Our instructor will guide you through various sequences designed to target the body’s connective tissues such as tendons, fasciae and ligaments in order to increase circulation in joints and improve flexibility. Breathing techniques incorporated in this program will help to lower levels of stress and anxiety, leaving you with a sense of calm. YOGA - FIT  An exciting new class format appropriate for those feeling inspired to take their practice to the next level. We will combine low impact cardio, working larger muscle groups to increase heart rate in an invigorating half hour, followed by a beautiful alignment -based vinyasa flow in the second half of our session. We will end with some heart-opening poses to leave you feeling open and relaxed. This class will improve fitness, strength, balance, and flexibility. YOUNG AT HEART Join us for a fun low impact cardio class that incorporates hand held weights, exercise bands, and other equipment. You will strengthen your muscles; improve your blood circulation and mobility. For encouragement and an hour of fun, you will not want to miss it. Beginners welcome! This program is designed specifically for people who would like to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle that is appropriate for their age and fitness level. It consists of 60 minutes of modified yoga postures done while sitting in a chair. The gentle mov1ements help improve the function, mobility, and range of motion of the spine and other joints in the body. Some of the exercises stretch, release tension tight areas and strengthen such as the shoulders, neck, sides of the chest, hips, and lower back.
