REFUNDS
Refunds are only issued for medical reasons. A doctor’s note may be required. All requests for refunds must be made in writing (email or paper) to Recreation Services. A $20 administration fee, plus a fee for classes attended, will be deducted from all approved refunds.
Refunds will be processed according to the date Recreation Services receives your request. Please allow three to five weeks for any refunds to be processed.
EG reserves the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration.

TRANSFERS
All requests for transfers must be made by emailing leisure1@eastgwillimbury.ca If space is available, a transfer can be accommodated up to two business days prior to the start of the program.
WAITING LISTS
If you cannot be accommodated in any of your selections, your name will be added to the waiting list for your first choice only. Program availability is only held for 48 hours before being offered to the next person on the waiting list.
PRORATE POLICY

AQUATIC PROGRAMS
GENERAL INFORMATION
EG has partnered with the Main Street Pool in Newmarket to deliver Lifesaving swimming lessons. This quaint facility allows for quality lessons with smaller class sizes, warmer pool temperatures and ondeck viewing for one parent or guardian. It provides a comfortable environment for all. The pool depth starts at three feet and nine inches and drops to nine feet at its deepest point.

Fall rograms are nine weeks long, running from September 24 to November 22.
Winter programs are eight weeks long, running from January 14 to March 7.

PARENT AND TOT LESSONS
Spend quality time with your child while you both have fun, learn and socialize. Through structured in-water interaction between parent/caregiver and child, we stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. We provide Lifesaving Society Water Smart® tips on keeping your child safe in any aquatic setting. Certified instructors provide guidance and answers to your questions.

Preschool 1 Prep is designed to help transition preschoolers from parented/caregiver lessons to swimming with just their instructor. We encourage the parent/caregiver to participate until their child lets them know they can do the task themselves. Learn to get in and out of the water, jump in, float and glide on their front and back and learn to blow bubbles underwater.

These youngsters will try jumping and sideways entry into deep water. They’ll grab objects from the bottom of the pool, and work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

These preschoolers learn to jump into the water by themselves, and get in and out. They’ll submerge and exhale underwater. They will also use a lifejacket or PFD (personal floatation device) and glide on their front and back.

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into the water and get out by themselves. They’ll do sideways entries and open their eyes underwater. They’ll master a short swim on their front, gliding and kicking on their side.

These youngsters get more adventurous with a forward roll entry and treading water for 10 seconds. They’ll work on front and back crawl swims for five-minute interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick.
SWIMMER LESSONS AQUATIC PROGRAMS
The Lifesaving Society’s six-level swimmer program ensures your children learn how to swim. Swimmer progressions accommodate children six years and older, including absolute beginners as well as swimmers who want to build on the basics. We stress in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education in all Swimmer levels.

These beginners will become comfortable jumping into the water, learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater, work on floats, glides and kicking through the water.

These advanced beginners will jump into the water, and become comfortable falling sideways into the water. They’ll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn to whip kick, swim 10 metres on their front and back, and begin to flutter kick in intervals (four times for five minutes each).

Whether you're starting out or just want help with strokes, our youth programs are for you. Set your own goals and work with certified instructors to learn to swim or improve your current swimming ability and water fitness.
YOUTH 1
13 TO 17 YEARS RATIO 4:1
Work towards a 10 to 15 minute swim on your front and back, jump entries from the side and recovering an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with four rounds of nine to 12 minute interval training.
ADULT LESSONS
Whether you’re starting out or just want help with strokes, our adult programs are for you. Set your own goals and work with certified instructors to learn to swim or improve your current swimming ability and water fitness.
ADULT 1 18+ YEARS RATIO 4:1
Work towards a 10 to 15 minute swim on your front and back, jump entries from the side and recovering an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with four rounds of nine to 12 minute interval training.
YOUTH 2
13 TO 17 YEARS RATIO 4:1
Work on two interval training workouts of four rounds of 25 metre kicking and front/back crawl, perform dive entries, breaststroke arms and breathing over 10 to 15 minutes. Support yourself at the surface for one to two minutes, and showing off your handstands in shallow water.
POOL PALS
Pool Pals is a free registered program where participants age 12+ can start developing their swim instructor skills to pursue employment with the Town of East Gwillimbury. Participants will receive in and out of water training, earn rewards towards future leadership courses and share their passion of aquatics with swimmers. Pool Pals will assist Swim Instructors with games and skills and model appropriate pool behaviour in line with East Gwillimbury’s mission, vision and values.

SWIM PATROL COURSES
The Swim Patrol provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. Swim Patrol's three-levesRookie, Ranges, and Star- continue to develop participants swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society's Bronze Medal Awards.
ROOKIE PATROL
6 TO 12 YEARS HOURS: 8 TO 10
Swimmers continue stroke development with 50 metre swims of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving Sport skills include a 25 metre obstacle swim and 15 metre object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350 metre workouts and 100 metre timed swims.
LIFESAVING COURSES
BRONZE STAR
10 TO 12 YEARS HOURS: 10
Develop swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire selfrescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport.
RANGER/STAR PATROL
6 TO 12 YEARS HOURS: 8 TO 10
Ranger Patrol
Swimmers develop better strokes over 75 metre swims, tackle Lifesaving Sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation.
Star Patrol
Swimmers are challenged with 600 metre workouts, 300 metre timed swims and a 25 metre object carry. Strokes are refined over 100 metre swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defence methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in shallow water.
BRONZE MEDALLION AND EMERGENCY FIRST AID
13+ YEARS IN-POOL AND IN-CLASSROOM
This course combines Bronze Medallion in-pool certification and First Aid in-classroom certification. Cost is $225 for both sessions This course helps basic lifesaving skills, endurance, judgement skills and emergency first aid to perform in water and dryland rescues. The Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid is a prerequisite for the Bronze Cross course. This course is a combined course with pool and classroom learning and requires 100% attendance. Minimum 13 years of age or Bronze Star certification.

FALL PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
BALLET
3 to 5 years and 6 to 8 years
In this program students will develop the grace and creativity of ballet. Students will learn proper arm and leg positions as well as several ballet routines that will transform them into a ballerina. Dress code: comfortable clothes and long hair tied back.
KINDER SCHOOL EXPLORERS
3 to 5 years
This pre-kindergarten program will have children participating in show and tell, art projects and educational worksheets. Children will discover numbers, letters, animals and much more. This program will allow your child to learn through play, while creative games, songs, stories and activities will enhance your child’s learning experience. Please send your child with a nut-free snack and water bottle. All participants must be fully toilet trained and independent in the washroom.
KINDERGYM JR.
1 year and 4 months to 2 years and 11 months
This free-play pre-kindergarten program has children participating in a wide variety of energy-burning activities and allows your child to learn through play. Sing songs, play games, and get your bodies moving at our Kindergym! Indoor shoes and parent participation required.

LITTLE KICKERS KARATE
3 to 5 years
This program involves children in basic self defense techniques and movements taught in Shotokan Karate. Sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere. A t-shirt and Karate belt will be supplied as part of the registration cost.
PARENT AND ME
2 to 4 years
In partnership with the Pulsars Gymnastics Club, this program introduces children to basic body movement and guides them through circuits and obstacle courses using real gymnastics equipment! All coaches are fully trained by the National Coaching Certification Program. Parent participation is required.

This free play pre-kindergarten open-gym program will have children able to choose from a wide variety of energy burning games and equipment to play with. This pre-kindergarten program will have children participating in show and tell, art projects and educational worksheets. Children will discover numbers, letters, animals and much more. This program will allow your child to learn through play, while creative games, songs, stories and activities will enhance your child’s learning experience. Please send your child with a nut-free snack and water bottle. All participants must be fully toilet trained and independent in the washroom.

An introduction to Hatha Yoga designed for students who are new or returning to yoga. You will be guided by our instructor to gently explore basic postures and simple breathing techniques, followed by guided relaxation. Yoga improves your tone, helps strengthen and balance the body, and is ideal for counteracting the stresses of daily life.
YOGA - RESTORATIVE
This is a gentle practice of asana, each held for longer then in conventional yoga class, often with the support of props such as folded blankets to relax the body and reduce stress. The Town encourages all participants to bring their own mat for hygienic reasons.
PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of Yoga. TENNIS - BEGINNER
Geared for players who have never had a formal lesson, haven’t played tennis for some time or are fairly new to the game. Players will learn technical fundamentals with the goal of being able to maintain a rally with some control. Players will learn basic court positioning as well as how to keep score.
