a message from the mayor

There are many great things happening in Grimsby. Examples of a few current highlights: Southward Community Park opened in May of this year. The park has already hosted several sport tournaments and it was also home to our 2017 Happening at the Forty fireworks show, which received great reviews. The feedback for the park has been very positive and its potential will continue to grow as a place to play, a place to enjoy the outdoors and a place to visit for family fun. The Carnegie building renovations are nearing completion. The renovations included exterior work to maintain and preserve the building, additions to improve accessibility of the building and refreshing the upstairs area. The community reveal for the Carnegie building will be held in conjunction with Doors Open, which is Sat Sept 23. Stop by for a visit to see all that this facility offers for your next family birthday party or small group rental.

Snow Removal

The Town of Grimsby has over 333 lane km of roads and 70 km of sidewalks that require winter maintenance. Staff aim to reach all streets for clearing within 12 hours of the snowfall ending. How can you help?

• Keep vehicles off the road during snowfall and for 48 hours

afterwards. Keep waste receptacles off of the road. Keep children away from roads edge while snow plows are in the area. Keep fire hydrants visible and clear a pathway to them. Do not push snow from your property onto the roadway or sidewalk. Did you know: a cul-de-sac or a 90 degree bend in the road often requires 2 different types of plow trucks for proper clearing. My Safe Life - Personal Safety for Kids

This program is all about interactive creative time with parents and children. In this class you leave the mess with us! Your little one will create masterpieces using their imagination and learn to share with their munchkin neighbours. Parents participate with their child during this program. This is a great way to meet new friends! Each day will include circle time, a craft and some active play.

My Safe Life is a personal safety program designed for children 7 – 10 years. Traditional gaming, digital media, video, role play and repetition are used to educate and engage children in a fun and interactive manner. Children learn life skills that empower them to make safe, caring and respectful decisions in their everyday lives both online and offline. Topics include: people safety, tricky people, bullying prevention, injury prevention and some basic first aid. Staying alert, being assertive and knowing where to go for help are a child’s best line of defense.

Learn To Skate

Your little one is ready to lace up a pair of skates, and we have the perfect place for you to do that. Our Preschool skating program offers a fun, casual skating environment that will get children skating on their own with a great big smile. The program incorporates games and songs. Parents/ caregivers must go on the ice with the child. We will permit strollers with wee ones during this program. Skate aides can also be used as needed.

For children who are not yet comfortable skating and want to be able to skate with their friends and family. This program focuses on the basics of skating, incorporating skill development, fun and games. It is preferred that participants have been on skates a few times before the classes. fiTness proGrams piyo flow

pilaTes

This is a class involving the dynamic movement of different asa-nas/poses every week to create strength, flexibility, endurance and balance through flowing movements. We apply modern fitness science to the ancient mind/body practice of yoga & pilates. Feel your body lengthen, relax and tone up. Great for your muscles, great for your mind. Beginners are welcome. Kick off your week with this moderate level I & II PiYo flow class! Variations will be offered to those needing an extra challenge & for beginners. PiYo moves smoothly with flow from one pose to the next with inhale and exhale.

When you are more flexible, you move easier. When your core is stronger, you stand taller and you look more lean and alert. When you challenge your muscles, you will see results. Pilates is dynamic, flowing and challenging. You will get a great total body toning workout that elevates your heart rate, and focuses on key muscles groups. The classes offer many modifications so all levels of fitness are welcome.

The Greenbelt route covers seven regions and spans for Niagara to Northumberland for a total of 475 km. Throughout the route you see the rich resources that the various communities have to offer, along with some spectacular views and stops along the way. The Grimsby section runs primarily along Ridge Road, and is considered an easy to moderate route, that is primarily paved road. Along the route you will see beautiful farmlands and vistas of Grimsby. There is also a side loop that comes out of Beamsville and travels into Downtown Grimsby, called the Fruitland Ramble. This side loop winds through Grimsby’s downtown and waterfront areas, capturing some signature stops of the Grimsby community. For more information visit greenbelt.ca/route
