a message from the mayor

As winter season comes to an end, and the spring and summer seasons ahead, we look forward to opening some of our community projects for 2017. Southward Community Park opens to the public in May of this year. The park will host multiple activities including baseball diamonds and soccer fields, as well as a 2.5 km fitness trail, a leash free dog park, and a community building that offers a fantastic community space. It will be a place for sport, a place for gatherings, and a place for family fun. The Carnegie building is under renovation to ensure that the facilities historical character is preserved, and that generations to come can enjoy this unique space. This project is part of a Canada 150 initiative, and there will be celebrations happening throughout the year in acknowledgement of Canada 150.

Swimming Lesson Guidelines The Preschool Swimming Program is for ages 0-5 years. Once children are 6 years of age they move into the regular Swim program. For assistance with that transition please contact our office or visit our website for the conversion chart. We also have the Lifesaving Society and YMCA conversion chart on our website (www.grimsby.ca). If you would like for us to assess your child for placement in a swimming level we are happy to do so once the pool opens. Please note, that we will do

20

our best to make level adjustments if deemed necessary, however it is restricted by class availability. We ask that parents only register for one session of swimming lessons at a time. This is to ensure that all residents get opportunity for at least one session. It is also not recommended to register for a second set of lessons until you know what level to register for, as changing levels can be difficult during our busy sessions.

Greenbelt Cycle route The Greenbelt Route celebrates a decade of protected green space and farmland across Ontario’s Greenbelt, which ensures fresh air, clean water, and healthy local food. The Greenbelt route covers seven regions and spans from Niagara to Northumberland for a total of 475 km. The Grimsby section runs primarily along Ridge Road, and is considered an easy to moderate route, that is primarily paved road. Along the route you will see beautiful farmlands and vistas of Grimsby. There is also a side loop that comes out of Beamsville and travels into Downtown Grimsby, called the Fruitland Ramble. This side loop winds through Grimsby’s downtown and waterfront areas, capturing some signature stops of the Grimsby community. For more information visit greenbelt.ca

That means that we have created a salon that offers the highest quality services while putting the health and well-being of our guests and staff first by taking the time to ensure that basins and sinks are properly sanitized, tools are sterilized in our autoclave machine, and that new buffers, filers, pumice stones and sink liners are used for each guest.
