AUTUMN 2016 ANZAC DAY
JOHN HUGHES SLOPESTYLE
ARTS SEASON EVOLVE
Mayor’s Message It’s not too late! – to get involved in Evolve. The inaugural Victoria Park Arts Season is in full swing, with two whole months of activities and events planned throughout the entire Town. The Arts Season has plenty on offer over the months of April and May and the very diverse program features everything from buskers, international artists and kickflipping skaters, to comedic beer tasting and trendy fashions as well as exhibitions, cinema, extreme sports and street art. Highlights for April include: »» Paint-by-Numbers Carlisle Mural Project »» CATS the Musical at Crown Perth »» Busking in the Parklet »» Town of Victoria Park Art Collection Exhibition »» Brewed Laughter at Dutch Trading Co. You can pick up a catalogue of events from the Town’s Administration Centre, Library, Leisure facilities and cafes and businesses within the Town. Or you can download it from our website at www.victoriapark.wa.gov.au/art
I cannot stress the importance of this project to our community. If you haven’t yet heard of Evolve, or seen the blue logo around, please take the time to learn more about it online, or give the Town a call to have a chat. There is more information at the bottom of the page. During April and May, we are taking the time to recognise some of the wonderful people in our community who have given part of themselves to making it a better place. First, we have Anzac Day on 25 April, where the Town will host a dawn service to pay respects to service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. On 29 April, we have our Early Settlers celebration – where we honour and celebrate those residents who have lived in the Town continuously for 50 years or more. These people have seen the Town evolve and change over the years and have played a huge part in shaping it into what it is today. Lastly, on 11 May, the Town is hosting a Volunteers Morning Tea during National Volunteer Week. Without volunteers, many of our Town’s facilities and programs simply wouldn’t run, so we are taking time out to thank the many people who volunteer for and in the Town. I would personally like to thank all of those people actively contributing to our community in their chosen ways – you make it a nicer, safer, more inclusive place to live, work and play.
