Message from the Mayor Hello everyone.

His Worship the Mayor Trevor Vaughan P: 9311 8155 M: 0447 374 528

We have a bumper edition of Life in the Park, with details of all sorts of activities and events happening in the Town over the next few months.

Notably, local government elections are to be held on Saturday, 17 October, and over half of the Councillor positions at the Town of Victoria Park will be up for candidates to fill. Encourage everyone in the Town to get involved and vote. The role of Council is important in making decisions and improving the quality of life in our community. Councillors are asked to vote on a wide range of matters at monthly Council meetings, and to represent the best interests of you, the electorate, when making their decision.

It’s important to make your vote count by filling in the ballot papers and posting back to the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) or by attending a nominated voting location on Election Day. Make sure you cast your vote and get behind our community. It’s worth your time to get involved and have your say and influence the direction the Town takes. Visit the WAEC website at elections.wa.gov.au for more information.

From what began as the simple act of feeding a few homeless people in a park, Manna Inc has grown to become one of the largest providers of meals for homeless and disadvantaged people in Perth. Based out of The Homestead on Mackie Street Victoria Park, Manna is a compassionate charitable organisation providing hope and dignity to the hungry, the lonely, the disadvantaged and the underprivileged. Founded in 1996, by Bev and John Lowe, Manna is a mainly volunteer operated charity with over 200 volunteers that give their time on a regular basis to prepare and deliver consistent food services to those in need. By assisting Perth’s most vulnerable, Manna improves their health and sense of wellbeing and provides a better outcome for the community while inspiring

positive social change. Unfortunately, the demand for each and every one of their services continues to grow, so Manna is always welcoming of any support.

Get Involved Volunteering Giving back to the community comes with many rewards. Manna relies heavily on its volunteers with over 200 people getting involved every month. This could be in the Manna kitchen or by utilising your professional or administration skills to assist Manna in its operations. Corporate Support Large or small, businesses may be able to assist Manna by offering pro bono services or goods in kind, volunteer time or generous donations. Manna have a wide range of corporate volunteering

opportunities, from volunteering and team building cooking days, to Winter blanket and Christmas hamper drives, and many more activities. Fundraising Hosting your own fundraising event is a fantastic way to support our community while having fun. Some examples are: dress down day, bad tie day, morning tea, a movie screening or workplace giving. The Town of Victoria Park staff recently donated the proceeds of their annual workplace giving ‘free dress Friday’ fundraising, presenting Manna with a cheque just short of $6,000!
