Message from the Mayor Hello and welcome to your bumper summer edition of Life in the Park.
His Worship the Mayor Trevor Vaughan P: 9311 8155 M: 0447 374 528
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Vote Vic Park local government election. I am so happy to be continuing as Mayor for the community I love, and feel very excited about the next four years and the future of the Town.
I’d like to welcome our two new Councillors; Jennifer Ammons Noble and Julian Jacobs, and congratulate Vicki Potter and Claire Anderson on their re-elections, and Brian Oliver on his new role as Deputy Mayor. I wish to acknowledge the many years of dedicated work from John Bissett and Vin Nairn. They have worked tirelessly for the Town and have been instrumental in shaping our community into what it is today - doing so with commitment and passion.
to the Town in keeping Burswood Peninsula into the future. The amendment was that the City of Perth will not have the power to annexe the Burswood Peninsula, or make any other boundary changes without the approval of Parliament. Progress on the new Perth Stadium on the Burswood Peninsula continues, with the eighth and final crane put in place in October to help install over 14,000 tonnes of steel. The area surrounding the stadium will be an amazing sports precinct with areas and facilities for families and the community to enjoy all year round, not just on event days. This, along with Crown Towers and Belmont Park redevelopment, is turning the Burswood Peninsula into a truly prestigious destination for not only locals, but tourists as well. I encourage you to find out more about the Town’s Evolve project. We want your input into the future of this great community.
The new Council will continue to work for you the community, to increase the vibrant lifestyle of the Town. The recent passing of the City of Perth Act through Parliament with a key amendment will be beneficial
Mayor Trevor Vaughan

No Glass in Green Top Bins Keep glass out of the compost. Your green top bin waste is taken to the Resource Recovery Facility in Neerabup where they separate the organic waste (kitchen scraps, paper, lawn clippings, leaves, prunings, etc) to make compost.
If there’s glass in this bin, it can contaminate the compost. This is why it’s really important to keep glass out of this bin. Place your glass bottles and jars (including broken ones), as well as ceramic plates, cups and mugs, into your yellow top recycling bin. Light globes, CFLs and fluorotubes, TVs and computer monitors, and broken sheet glass (window or doors) will need to be disposed of by other methods. Call the Town on 9311 8111 for more information.
Introducing the Evolve project The Town is excited to introduce one of its newest (and most important) projects, the Evolve project, to the community. The objective of the Evolve project is to know the community’s future needs and wants for the Town by October 2016 and create a plan of action for June 2017 and beyond. Our desired outcome is for the Town and the community to work together to identify services and implement projects that meet the community’s expectations. The point of difference for this project will be the degree in which the community is engaged, which will be in a way the Town has never done before. The intention is to have the community engage by their preferred methods and in doing so increase the participation rates of the community. At the end of the project, the Town will have a Strategic Community Plan, a Corporate Business Plan, a Long Term Financial Plan, Asset Management Plan(s), and a Workforce Plan, with all of these documents genuinely informed by the community.
Evolve. We’ve realised that an awesome public participation process includes asking the community how they’d prefer to participate in a project before the actual process begins. We’ve also been documenting all of the services, and their level, we provide. When the process gets underway we want to be able to have conversations with the community about the areas where they feel they are being over or under serviced, so we can understand what are priorities and what are the community’s expectations. Plus, we’ve been collecting information about the Town’s context and future trends that may affect the community and the Town.
So when does it begin and how long will it last? We’re planning on beginning the Evolve public participation process during February 2016 which will run for around six months, which we think is enough time to have as many initial and follow up conversations as possible with the community.
How can you get involved? Go to victoriapark.wa.gov.au/ yourthoughts and click on the ‘Evolve’ icon. Need to know more before
