Sebastian di Mauro daniel Wallwork
Also acting as judge at this year’s event, Di Mauro is a Senior Lecturer at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and an established public artist. Since 1987 he has held over 45 solo exhibitions and his work has been included in over 100 group exhibitions throughout Australia, Europe and Asia.
Di Mauro has completed a number of public art commissions. His first commission was completed for 175 Eagle Street, Brisbane in 2002. He has also undertaken a major public art commission for 33 Charlotte Street, Brisbane and created an artwork in 2005 for the Brisbane Magistrates Court, Queensland. He has collaborated with architect Alice Hampson on several public art projects including Logan Community Health Centre and Gabba Members Area (Gabba Cricket Ground). In Adelaide Di Mauro completed a commission in 2006 for Taylor, Cullity and Lethlean Landscape Architects and in 2011 he completed an ephemeral public artwork for the Adelaide City Council.
Wallwork’s practice is strongly influenced by contemporary car culture and street or graffiti art. Wallwork is one of the founders and current director of artist run initiative Upholstery
Contemporary Arts in Cairns. He was also a recent co-mentor in the temporary public art project Changing Lanes in Cairns.
Daniel has exhibited extensively since 2000 with his work included in both solo and group exhibitions all over Australia. His work can be found in both public and private collections including Artbank, Cairns Regional Gallery, Ipswich Regional Gallery and Gold Coast City Gallery. He has recently completed a commissioned public artwork project for the Cairns Regional Airport and his installation “earth fish” featured in Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi in 2010.
Exhibiting Artists
A selection of exhibiting artists will present slideshows in a Speed Pecha Kucha format (18 slides at 8 seconds each) offering an insight into their arts practice and the process and motivation that led to their involvement in Strand Ephemera.
AWARdS ANd PRiZES
Artistic Excellence Award
This year the event offers a $10,000 Artistic Excellence award to artist/s selected by the Judge. The winning artist will be announced at the event opening on Friday 2 September.
People’s Choice Award
Vote for your favourite artwork!
The most popular artwork, as judged by Strand Ephemera visitors, will be presented with the $2,000 People’s Choice Award, proudly sponsored by Glenda Lewin.
Voting closes 6pm Monday 12 September 2011.
The winning artist will be announced after the event closure.
