LIVEABILITY & VISITOR ECONOMY The tourism, hospitality, and events sector was the first and hardest hit by the impacts of the global pandemic. The sector is part of the lifeblood of these regional economies and plays a significant role in supporting the liveability and workforce attraction. As North Queensland’s traditional industries start to transition, tourism will not only remain a critical sector, but also offers diversification opportunities towards sustainable, long-term employment for these regional communities. Whilst Townsville North Queensland’s visitor numbers are slowly returning to pre-covid, the region requires sustainable funding, targeted investment, and support for new tourism experiences and infrastructure for this industry to accelerate and exceed.
