Commercial kennel rules revised By Bailey Wright Town Times

Starting Wednesday, Dec. 26, commercial kennels will no longer be included in the town’s zoning regulations, but may be added back as soon as February. The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Dec. 5 to eliminate commercial kennels, which appeared under the agriculture section of the regulations. The change will not affect existing kennels. The commission voted to hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. to address a motion to add “commercial kennels” as a special exception to zoning regulations. The special exception process would allow the commission to conduct a more detailed review of any future kennel plan, including adding conditions or requirements on the applicant in order to gain approval, according to commission chairman

Proceeds from sunflower maze donated to children’s hospital Lyman Orchards recently presented Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with a check for $13,565, from proceeds generated by its 2018 Sunflower Maze.

Over the past 12 years, maze attendees have helped donate $107,092 to the medical center. The funds will be used in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Lyman Orchards donates one dollar from each Sunflower Maze admission to benefit patients at Connecticut Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

Lyman Orchards and Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo worked together on this year’s Sunflower Maze. The tiger-themed maze was created with the natural beauty

of more than 350,000 sunflowers and was inspired by the 2017 birth of two Amur tiger cubs at the Beardsley Zoo.
