PROVIDER INDEPENDENCE We have first-hand knowledge and experience in the development of some of the most progressive natural gas installations of their time. When it comes to understanding the equipment and core competences needed to achieve your goals, we can help you choose the right suppliers and contractors with unbiased intelligence. We do not hold any technical licenses, nor are we affiliated to any technology suppliers, directly or via the GDF SUEZ Group. This allows us to work by, and on, your side, presenting you with only the very best technological and economical solution to your needs. This guarantees that the right solution is always YOUR solution, not OURS!

AN UNCOMPROMISING APPROACH TO SAFETY

SYNERGIES WITH OTHER BUSINESS SEGMENTS

Safety is a major preoccupation and a priority for everyone involved in the gas industry. In the interest of seeing constant improvement and that the recognised highest levels of safety are upheld, we take our responsibility with regard to the safety of your gas installation very seriously indeed. You can be certain that our contribution to your projects will have been assessed for safety from the very beginning by every participant at every grade. On a practical level we enforce this via action plans revolving around a sound work formula – Plan, Do, Check, Act in three priority areas: professional project management from start to finish, faultless studies and the delivery of higher-level expertise. We also strive to take account of sustainability matters for all our deliverables and will ensure that our teams are fully informed of your policy in this respect.

It is very unlikely that your gas project is an isolated development! Tractebel Engineering is also very active in thermal power, generation and cogeneration as well as in industry and infrastructure. This broad vision helps us to place your gas projects in a wider context. We can, for example, recommend the best locations and installation lay-outs in order to streamline your projects with a view to electricity generation to industrial use, to transport conditions and even to harbour infrastructure needs.

Everyone is looking for gas at any time. In the interests of diversifying sources, operators are increasingly looking further afield, exploring new, smaller gas fields and developing small scale liquefaction units, often far offshore, as a means to protect their business and feed gas supplies. UPSTREAM STRATEGIC ADVICE The development of non-conventional gas fields can be both complex and expensive. Many of the technologies and concepts related to LNG Floating, Production, Storage and Off-loading (FPSO) are also less than 10 years old, making experience a rare commodity. We are fortunate in that the GDF SUEZ Group has been amongst the pioneers to venture in this direction. Drawing on our extensive onshore experience, knowledge of liquefaction processes and marine technologies, LNG shipping expertise and rapidly developed competences, we are able to provide key strategic advice on the technical feasibility, costs, planning and transport options open to developers in such ventures or operators that want to create value by developing their gas assets.

GAS TREATMENT Onshore and offshore, we provide consultancy services related to the typical treatment and conditioning of extracted gas to ensure it

meets the required quality specifications. FPSO units are faced with unique challenges and we can advise on solutions specifically designed for this environment. All extracted natural gas may require various treatments that aim at removing condensates, acid gas, mercury, solids, as well as water. We will advise you of the most economical treatment choices based on the gas composition and market quality requirements.

GAS PROCESSING & LIQUEFACTION We can advise you on the type of LPG/LNG extraction processes either as a valuable by-product of your natural gas or as an upstream requirement for a pipeline transportation or prior to a liquefaction process. Based on our process expertise, we offer dynamic process simulations, flow assurance, turbo-machinery or compressor selection. Our considerable history and expertise in the design of LNG cryogenic storage and equipment is a useful asset in the development of your LNG liquefaction projects.

May we show you some of our favourite projects ?

As a means of opening up and diversifying sources of gas supply, LNG technology has moved firmly into the limelight. Governments and operators around the world are increasingly turning to LNG as a vital component of their energy mix for the future. Due to this substantial investment in infrastructure, LNG has become a major growth area. A prominent role

PROMOTING CODES AND STANDARDS

We have been involved in LNG since its inception. Having assisted in the development of more than 50 terminal projects worldwide, Tractebel Engineering ranks among the world leading engineering firms in this field. We engineer solutions for LNG terminals, transfer, storage and regasification units. Our involvement in the GDF SUEZ Group with its important FPSO and LNG activity further extends our expertise.

In all our services, we conform to the applicable codes and standards. In the case of LNG, we also participate to their development. For example, we are members of technical committee 282 of the European Committee for Standardisation, which has issued the standard applicable to the design of onshore installations (EN 1473). In the United States, we have access to the relevant Committee of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 59 A) through GDF SUEZ LNG NA, the operator of the Boston LNG terminal. These high-profile collaborations generate ample opportunities to network and exchange ideas with other experts in the field, as does our membership in industry forums.

SPECIALISED COMPETENCES We have been advancing LNG for 30 years, and have contributed to some of the sector’s most ambitious undertakings. As a result, we have cultivated a considerable pool of specialist skills, notably in LNG process and safety studies, tank design, harbour and marine design, water intake and outfall. Our expertise also extends to cryogenic vessels, vaporisers, recondensers, offshore solutions and small scale liquefaction units.

SECURE EXPERTISE

SPECIALISED STORAGE CONSULTANTS

We have vast experience in the development of the aboveground installations required for underground gas storage. Whether for new facilities to safeguard against political disruption of supply, or the renovation of existing compression and filtration stations due to obsolete technologies, the reduction of operating costs and the increase in environmental concern which has led to a new trend in electricalmotor operated compressors, you can rely on our knowledge to deliver the most state-of-the-art solutions. Many years working inside operating facilities has also developed our heightened appreciation for safety and respect for the very strict procedures entailed.

Gas storage is a key component of many networks. We provide advice on all related aboveground facilities, notably installations for sulphur removal, dehydration (including triethylene glycol regeneration), expansion, metering and injection. One of the challenges of gas storage today lies in the need to modulate between steady supply and fluctuating demand. Gas storage empowers utilities to respond flexibly to changes in consumption and market conditions, but also to build reserves against supply disruptions. Facilities require increased flexibility and ease of operation to allow for a fast switch from store to send mode. Our intimate knowledge of such installations is key to the inventive design solutions we are able to propose. Our multidisciplinary skills enable us to plan interventions precisely and interface effectively with existing installations to minimise downtime.
