Message from the artistic director Our 2012 Season of nine exciting shows at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma offers something for everyone! Get ready to laugh at the roller-skating musical, XANADU, which features some of my favorite songs from the 80s. In March, come experience the powerful emotions of SPRING AWAKENING with “the most gorgeous Broadway score this decade” according to by Entertainment Weekly, and I couldn’t agree more. Lyric celebrates Legendary Broadway icon Chita Rivera’s career all summer long at the Civic Center Music Hall, with three of her landmark musicals. Shake your hips again during Lyric’s colorful new production of BYE BYE BIRDIE, a musical we have not produced in over 20 years. In SWEET CHARITY, I love Neil Simon’s talent for looking at the amusing side of life and Bob Fosse’s unique dance style. Oklahoma City’s own Perle Mesta inspired Irving Berlin’s CALL ME MADAM and I’m thrilled to bring new life to this lost Broadway classic. Completing our summer celebration is Chita Rivera herself in MY BROADWAY! Two-time Tony-award winner Chita Rivera has broken barriers under Broadway’s lights and inspired a generation of artists to follow in her remarkable footsteps. Therefore, I feel honored to bring her to Oklahoma for this once in a lifetime event.
Michael Baron // Artistic Director Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma

You won’t want to miss any of these great shows so I invite you to get the best seats by becoming a subscriber to Lyric, Oklahoma’s Leading Professional Theatre! See you in the lobby,
Cheers,
Musical heaven on roller sk ates!

This over-the-top, hysterical roller-skating musical spoofs the outrageously bad 1980s film about a beautiful muse who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach and inspires a struggling artist to pursue his dreams. It’s hilarity on wheels for anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired.
