solace

a relieving space Taguig, Philippines 2019

Globally, mental health issues increased significantly in young adults over the last decade. Alarming. Addressing this issue, Solace, a vertical pod is intended as a relieving space for young adults experiencing such mental issues as it is designed with specific considerations to give them at ease in pain, achieve self-satisfaction and give them a refreshing set up to help them improve their mental health. It intends give the user an opportunity to help them out in terms of self-care. Form and physicality. The form and physicality of the structure is curated and design in accordance to several factors considered affecting the user’s cognition and mental health for it has a great influence to one’s being. As this project is based from the designer’s interpretation to Cain’s story. Speculatively, the form and spaces of the structure is intended to be murderous, vagabond. Function. Three pods would have different programs: music-themed, arts-themed and bioiphilic architecture themed. The chosen themes are intended to be as ways to affect their mental-health. The designer’s end goal is to basically give the user a space for himself, where one could enjoy his own company, feel free and liberated. All of these, with great hope, could be therapeutic at the user’s end or probably somehow just serve him with a . All of these factors and considerations done to the structure for the benefit of the user’s psychological state and physiological being.

the sense from the nonsense house of a dadaist Zambales, Philippines 2019

Sense from the nonsense - The proposed project, a shelter, a studio and a gallery store for a young dadaist mother and her two toddler, was specifically designed to cater the needs of the family and the applying the principles of dadaism, opposing the standards and qualities of a generic Filipino house, adapting John Hedjuk’s spatial adjacencies and utilizing Alain de Bottom’s “The Architecture Happiness” aiming to attain a paradigm shift to one’s perception of house. The proposed project is intended to be located in the midst of Zambales’ mountainous district. The structure paid respect to the users considering their possible attitudes, traits, and frame of mind and their economic status as middle class family. First, a young mother, a dadaist. Based from research, a dadaist’s way of thinking can be paradoxical, they can be spontaneous, humorous and they could actually be in rejection to culture, standards and values. As an advantage, the concept of opposing the generic Filipino house can be easier for the user to take in as it aims to contradict and deviate the commons. Considering a young mother’s mental state, she could probably be prone to anxiety and depression, she could be vulnerable, and can have a fresh and open mind. On the other hand, the two toddlers may have temper tantrums as it is very common in this age group, they could copy adults in appearance and in activity and basically just to play around. According to research, children at this age group are much more confident with their physical abilities and from this a concept in terms of circulation of the house has been developed. The deviated design remains to cater and provide the demands and needs of the users and given their capabilities as a middle class family. In addition, this will hopefully allow them to develop a different viewpoint, character and discipline most especially to the toddlers as it could be the start of their core foundation. Essence. The immense changes applied to this proposed project targets a paradigm shift and this is to see the possibilities one never expected. This allows them to have widen their horizons. “Our homes do not have to offer us permanent occupancy or store our clothes to merit the name. To speak of home in relation to a building is simply to recognise its harmony with our own prized internal song. Home can be an airport or a library, a garden or a motorway diner.” A line from Alain De Bottom’s The Architecture Happiness and it simply speaks of the essence a space could offer and possibly offer.

last frontier: a vertical city disaster, chaos and recovery Group Project with: Lionel Li and Adrian Lopez 2019

World War III. It definitely ruined the current state of the Philippines in several aspects - people, infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, business, and most importantly, a highlight, architecture. The destructive impacts of the conflict has indeed affected the state of the country, causin annihilation, wreckages - having it to be a remote area, a total ghost town. The aftermath of the war left the area into shattered pieces of tragic remembrance and echoes despair. Horizontal landscapes withered, sea level abruptly rose. And from that tragedy, everything reset, everything were in the phase of recovery and healing. Nevertheless, hope sprouted onto the hearts and minds of the citizens allowing them to have the courage and faith to rebuild their land and to start from the beginning. And so, shattered buildings had a light. Citizens, having no knowledge about rebuilding structure, they tried constructing a new building, vertically occupying the space and this resulted to random sprouts of rooms and areas beneficial for themselves. They made sure that everything a person needs would be in that structure - institutions like schools, hospitals, market, workplace and even residences. They started vertical farming in artificial weather which will serve as the main resource for goods. And therefore, a vertical city has been constructed - one community

project binhi: hiraya it will provide

Group Project with: Kim Basabe, Annette Dela Cruz, Thrixia Dimapilis, Gabe Dimapilis, Kenneth Dela Torre Pasay, Philippines 2020

Selfish interests of man led to the widespread of weaponized deadly diseases. This war eventually destroyed not only our peace but our humanity as well. This brought us years of standstill, almost as if time itself ceased to exist; with nothing but natural seasonal calamities to tell us otherwise. It is the year 2030, exactly 8 years since the world went into a cataclysmal war, and we are slowly regaining our way of life. Hiraya, an arcology that intends to restore humanity, build a self-sufficient, self-sustainable, and self-contained community, and establish a community that focuses on the safety, security, and well-being of the citizens. The project targets to house approximately a thousand survivors of Pasay City. The spaces allotted for every program and component of Hiraya have been thought of to provide what is suitable, needed, and wanted by the users. Every space has been programmed to be modifiable and flexible to whatever circumstances the users may encounter most especially in terms of the possibility of another pandemic, the possibility of biological warfare, and the possibility of natural disasters. The users would also have the freedom of choice to how they would utilize the public and social spaces, depending on what they need and what should be done in case of such trouble. The users will be housed in the arcology for who knows how many years, but definitely for a long time and the designers have thought of providing intended for their wellbeing.

future state of planning trends a digital montage 2021

The Philippines is abundantly surrounded by nature; it’s a strength that’s neglected. The vast revolutions brought by globalization have resulted in a disregard for the natural and prioritization for the unnatural. This movement is leading us to the worsening of global warming and its effects are pretty evident at this point. The envisioned environment I have aims to acknowledge nature as a strength of the country at the same time providing the necessities of the people sustainably. This nature and human-centered planning would generally have numerous green spaces acting as lungs of a zone and this could hopefully encourage walking and biking reducing vehicular emissions as it is one of the major dilemmas of the country. Also, this would have green buildings that are self-sustainable and self-sufficient. Weaving and balancing nature and humans together would definitely refine and strengthen our community.
