5 P.M., THURSDAY, JANUARY 14
from the Sale Manager Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen,
Welcome to the Fourteenth Annual “Denim and Diamonds” Sale and our seventh consecutive year “On the Hill” in Denver. This unique event is the result of the continued collective efforts of forward-thinking Angus seedstock producers. The breeders represented in the Denim and Diamonds Sale have again worked together toward the common goal of assembling an offering of elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in our industry. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none, as is the visual quality of the live offering. Phenotypically, the 2016 sale offering is especially strong, and quality is present from Lot 1 through Lot 41. As the name suggests, “Denim and Diamonds” is a unique blend of two segments of the Angus industry. The 2016 Denim and Diamonds Sale combines the influence of the breed’s most valuable and proven performance families with the deepest and most elite show prospects and herd sires in the country. The embryo matings and heifer pregnancies feature cutting-edge genetics that are progeny of some of the most popular champions, herd sires and donors in the industry. The herd sire candidates, open show and donor prospects and the flush lots are from proven donors that are second to none. You will find that the influence of what is currently the Angus breed’s most proven and influential show sire, Dameron First Class, is especially strong in this offering. The focus of this sale remains on quality, and like a diamond, each lot is distinctive in its own way. I encourage each of you to evaluate your own situation and your breeding goals, and on Thursday, January 14 please join us at 2:00 p.m. following the NWSS Junior Angus Show in Expo Hall 1 to view the cattle and enjoy food and refreshments, and then at 5:00 p.m. in the National Western Beef Palace Auction Arena to take advantage of the knowledge and cutting-edge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Whether you are seeking your next herd sire, donor dam or your next show ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering. If I can be of assistance in any way, please let me know. Sincerely,
DAMERON FIRST CLASS Much of the 2016 sale offering carries the influence of this popular sire!

• Selling a confirmed heifer calf pregnancy, due 2.20.16. Recip No. 1536. An unsurpassable, rare opportunity at a mating only one will be fortunate enough to call their own. Of only a select few viable embryos collected, a confirmed heifer calf pregnancy is being released from the syndicate and available at public auction. Partners of the highly acclaimed PlumCreek Miss Annie Lu 361C took the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to flush this elite, breedleading female to the most successful and sought-after Angus bull of our generation, Dameron First Class. The envied crowd favorite of hundreds last fall, 361C went on to be named Reserve Grand Champion Angus Female at the NAILE. Females of this kind are a dying breed. With a later maturity pattern that most will find refreshing, 361C combines a headspinning look with a powerful body type and a flawless structural build that guarantees success. If this female doesn’t get your blood pumping, stop by the Harmony Hill stall while in Denver to witness her full sister, exhibited by Kennedy Core, who has an unparalleled track record this year. Furthermore, Harmony Hill and Plum Creek are excited to reveal the new promotional semen sire Refresh, a full sibling to these females. This proven, unbelievably consistent line of full sibs is something to be coveted. We are beyond excited for this mating to hit the ground and couldn’t have any more confidence in this unborn heifer calf’s ability to create value in any operation. If you’re looking for even more assurance in maximizing your return on investment, this unborn female already has a place as a featured lot in next fall’s Flash and Function Sale, if so desired. Feel confident in this investment. This donor, her full siblings and her direct offspring are the new wave of excitement within the Angus breed. Jump on and enjoy the ride.

• Sells open. There’s a good chance you’ve bought your show heifer for the coming year. We all get “heifer happy” earlier than we should. But in many cases, waiting until this time of year to find the elite females with the most promising future is actually in your best interest. Plum Creek Annie Lu 53472 has been hiding in the “back lot” for this specific, red carpet moment. She’s related to a line of siblings that is quickly taking the Angus arena by storm. A later-maturing kind you can’t take your eyes off of, she’s extended, striking necked, level, big middled and as structurally correct as they come. Not only is she herself headed for the backdrop, but her two maternal sisters coupled with their maternal brother Refresh are proof that consistency is king in her pedigree. This daughter of Silveiras Style has an extremely bright future in the show ring and an even brighter future in the donor pen. Bid with confidence. She’ll prove to provide a return on investment.

• Sells open. This April heifer is put together the right way. She is upheaded and well balanced with flawless structure, exceptional length of body and a striking profile. Neal Thompson says this is one of the sleekest built show heifers he has had of any breed. All who have seen her think she is even better than her dam, who was a many-time champion for Kolby Shepard of Oklahoma. This female will only get better with age. Here is a big time show prospect. The dam of Ruth 5022, C C A Ruth 096, was named Supreme Champion Female at the 2012 Oklahoma Youth Expo, one of the world’s largest junior shows, and later accomplished what many show heifers can’t by going on to be named the 2012 National Junior Angus Show Champion Cow/Calf in Louisville. Ruth 5022 complements her flawless phenotype with genetic predictors that rank among her breed contemporaries in the top 2% for WW, YW, Milk, $F and $B; top 3% for $W; and top 20% for RE. With her impressive EPD profile, this daughter of EXAR Denver will make a great show heifer and a very versatile donor cow with the ability to produce competitive progeny for the show ring or front pasture that meet the needs of all facets of the industry.

J&J Mabel 526
• Sells open. Femininity with extra style is what you get in 526. She ties a long neck high into her shoulder and blends smooth from there into a deep, full rib. Her brood cow value is enhanced by her rib shape and functional design. In addition to her attractive profile and show ring appeal, this female offers a balanced set of genetic strengths to complement her visual advantages. Her dam, J&J Mabel 156, is a big time donor prospect just reaching her prime. She is productive, functional, problem free, profitable and easy to own. The Mabel cow family has distinguished itself over three generations at J&J Cattle Co. The granddam of this attractive Catalyst daughter, Mabel 5003, topped the cow/calf pairs at $15,500 in the 2010 J&J sale, while 526 and her dam followed suit when Strate Family Cattle Co. selected them as the $12,000 top selling pair in the 2015 Oklahoma Angus Gathering. The sire of Mabel 526 combines two Denver Reserve Champions in First Impression and Princess 6414.

• Sells open. This powerful late April heifer offers a unique blend of substance and femininity that should transmit to success in the show ring to her progeny no matter how she is mated. She offers balance and eye appeal without sacrificing power. Whether producing prospects for the show ring, enhancing your herd’s visual quality or adding to your donor pen, here is a female you don’t want to miss. The dam of this First Class daughter is a direct daughter of Queenie 9206, who was the foundation of the J&J Cattle Co. herd. The Queen family accounted for more than $68,000 of the sale gross in the May 2010 J&J dispersion and included the $22,750 J&J Queen 414; J&J Queen 9064, who sold for $11,250; and J&J Queen 9044, who sold for $11,500 to Fred Shultz of Perkins, OK, to name a few. A full sister to the dam of Queen 5158, J&J Queen 613, was first selected by KB Cattle Co. from the 2010 J&J dispersion, where she and her three progeny sold for $29,900 to average an impressive $7,475. After joining the KB Cattle Co. herd, 613 had quite an impact. In the fall 2012 sale, the high-selling Angus heifer was a daughter of 613 that went on to be a many-time champion for Cale Hinrichsen in Kansas, while another sister that sold to California was a many-time breed or division champion on the west coast. In the fall 2013 Texas Limited Edition Sale, two daughters of Queen 613 sold for $9,000 and $8,900 to Brandon Hillery and Wyatt Hagle. A daughter of 613 sold to Landry Bozeman in the Spring 2014 Texas Limited Edition Sale. Queen 613 was the $20,000 top selling lot in the KB dispersion to Double Bar L in Texas.

• Selling a package of four frozen embryos. The dam of this mating, Laflins Primrose 8153, was named Grand Champion Cow/Calf at the 2012 National Western Stock Show and is a foundation female for North Camp. This moderate framed, powerfully constructed donor female possesses flawless udder structure and produces a standout calf every year. Her progeny include Laflins Alternative Power 2100, who was the fourth high selling bull at the Midland Bull Test in 2013 to New Haven Angus Ranch in Leavenworth, KS, for $17,500, and Laflins Storm 1102, who was the calf at side when 8153 was named Grand Champion Cow/Calf at the 2012 National Western. Storm was purchased by Silveira Bros. of Firebaugh, CA, for $10,000 after being named Late Junior Bull Calf Champion at the 2012 Western National Angus Futurity in Reno. If you strive to produce front pasture females that possess that added show ring look as well as rugged herd sires, this is an unmistakable opportunity for you. A flush on 8153 sold in the 2015 Denim and Diamonds Sale to Bruce Keiswetter for $11,500. The sire of this mating, South Dakota, is a 6.5 frame bull who is siring extra performance with a bit more bone. His maternal lineage is superior from the tremendous Jilt family tracing back to legendary Bon View Farms, and his sons were among the favorites in the NWSS Carload and Pen shows last year.

The dam of the Lot 36 embryo matings, FAF Pride of SVF Bandolier1N, is a second generation embryo transplant with a super disposition and has been a prolific embryo producer. She descends from the renowned Pleasant Pill of Conanga, dam of the $65,000 ORIgen sire Coalation and granddam of the Accelerated Genetics sire B/R New Frontier 095 plus Lemmon Newsline C804, a featured sire at Genex. 01N’s dam, Pleasant Pride Alan Dale 12K, was the $15,000 top selling donor of the 2004 National Western Foundation Female Sale selected by Lee Cattle. 12K is a full sister to Connealy Frontline and White Fence Pride H1, dam of 095 and Newline. This donor dam has produced 14 sons and 15 daughters through embryo transplant and natural birth. Her sons have landed in six states and on two continents. 01N is sired by the rare and valuable SVF Bandolier. SVF Bandolier was the top-indexing calf with a weaning ratio of 115 and a yearling ratio of 116 in his calf crop at Sunny Valley Farms. He has been called “The most complete and muscled carcass bull of the breed.” Chris Earl of Sunny Valley Farm has reported that SVF Bandolier could very well be the best bull ever produced by Sunny Valley Farm, and Doug Hoff of Hoff’s Scotch Cap Angus Ranch says that SVF Bandolier puts more muscle in his calves than any other bull he has used. SVF Bandolier maintains 99 daughters at 103 for WR while also maintaining 195 scans for IMF at 103 and 197 scans for REA at 104. SVF Bandolier (whose semen has sold for as much as $1,700 per straw when it can be found) is known as a carcass bull while transmitting his tremendous muscling and super disposition to his progeny. 1N records progeny ratios of 2@107 WW and 1@103 REA. • Selling a package of three frozen IVF embryos. This unique mating combines four Denver champions, two Triple Crown winners and two ROV Dams of the Year. The sire of this mating, the now-deceased Triple-Crown winning First Class, has set the standard as the Angus breed’s leading cultivator of champions. With his semen in high demand and short supply and selling for record amounts in excess of $15,000 per straw, it is easy to see the earning potential these embryos possess. First Class blends First Rate with the former No. 1 ROV ET Dam of the Year, Northern Miss 3114. Maternal sibs to this outstanding show bull include Dameron First Impression and Northern Miss 0109, the $68,000-valued female selected by Kyle Anderson that went on to reign as Grand Champion Female at the 2011 National Junior Angus Show and the Illinois State Fair as well as being Reserve Grand Champion Female at the 2011 WNAF. The dam of these embryos blends the Triple Crown winning Titleist with the renowned Denver Champion and prolific donor Princess 1012, who is the all-time leading income generator at Express Ranches. Greens Princess 1012 sold in the 2004 Bases Loaded Sale in Denver for $200,000 for 1/2 interest and was named ROV Dam of the Year (Embryo Transplant) for that same season. 1012 was the 2003 National Western Stock Show Grand Champion Angus Female, the 2003 Western National Angus Futurity Champion Cow/Calf and the 2003 NAILE Reserve Champion Cow/Calf.
