Genetic Opportunity XXXI • Saturday, September 12, 2015 • Hillsboro, Indiana

Fellow Angus Enthusiasts,

Combining over 180 years experience breeding quality Angus seedstock!

Welcome to our 31st annual Genetic Opportunity Angus Sale. To say that the Craft, Grubbs and Stewart families are serious, long-time breeders and supporters of the Angus breed and the beef cattle industry is an understatement. Between the three families represented in this sale offering are a combined 180-plus years of experience breeding quality Angus cattle. We are in the Angus business for the long haul and are committed to producing seedstock that will make a profit for our customers. The positive results of our breeding programs are well documented in terms of what our cattle have done for others, both in the breeding pasture and in the show ring. These are truly exciting times to be in the cattle business. The Angus breed has become the dominant force in the beef cattle business, and you will not find three breeders with more love and dedication to the Angus breed than Les Craft, Dale Grubbs and Andrew Stewart. All three firms are using the most advanced technologies, such as genomic testing, artificial insemination, embryo transfer and AHIR performance records to produce and offer for sale genetics that will improve our customer’s bottom line. Our herds of cattle have consistently produced bulls that were top performing and top selling bulls at central test stations, heifers that were at the top of their classes at shows—ranging from local to national competition, and bulls that have successfully entered AI studs to market semen to breeders across the country. The 2015 edition of the Genetic Opportunity Sale will feature our usual categories of select young cows bred to the top sires of the breed, an elite set of bred heifers selected for both their genetics and phenotype and also bred to elite Angus sires, and as always a top set of spring heifer calves that will be show prospects or future donor prospects. Please feel free to visit any of our farms prior to the sale to view our sale offering. We are always available in person or by phone to visit about our cattle and to share our passion for raising the best Angus cattle that we know how to. We’re looking forward to seeing our past customers and to meeting new friends at the Grubbs Farm on September 12th. Regards,

Les Craft

The sale cattle will be on display Friday afternoon, September 11th…please join us for refreshments at 5 p.m. Complimentary lunch will be served at 11 a.m. sale day. The sale will begin at 12 noon EDT.

Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen: Welcome to the 31st Annual Genetic Opportunity Sale—one of the longest running production sales anywhere in the United States. The longevity of this sale is a testament not only to the quality of the cattle but more to the quality of the people involved with these breeding programs. It is my honor to once again be involved in their marketing. I want to take a moment to express my condolences to the Mark Smith family. Mark and MCM Farms were a valuable member of the Genetic Opportunity Sale for several years, and he will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. We are excited to bring you this outstanding offering in 2015. Grubbs Angus Farm and Les Craft Angus along with their sale guest, Stewart Select Angus, have again assembled a set that illustrates the result of their combined experience in the purebred seedstock industry, spanning over seventy years and three generations—and their passion for the Angus female. These breeders consistently bring forth their very best. While the offering has been weighted heavily to the side of open show and donor prospects in years past, the demand for bred females in recent Genetic Opportunity sales has led the group to increase the number in that division. They are sharing some of the very top producers and young females in their respective herds. The success that Genetic Opportunity customers have had with past investments is testament to the depth and quality present in past events, and this year is no exception. These cattle combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in the industry. The bottom line is: Genetic Opportunity cattle appreciate in value. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none. The Angus breed’s most popular sires are represented here as well as an exciting group of calves by the resident herd sires for each firm. Excellent show and donor prospects from power cow families and sired by breed-leading bulls will sell. Past junior customers have claimed championship honors in show rings across the region and at every level of competition. Whether you select a proven female or an open prospect, you cannot go wrong. You will find an excellent set of replacement females—either sold alone or on the side of their dams. If you are searching for a young donor, don’t overlook the select set of bred heifers. I am excited to again be working with this progressive group of Angus breeders in the marketing of their cattle. Evaluate your own situation and breeding goals, and on Saturday, September 12th, take advantage of the knowledge and cutting-edge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Please join us Friday evening for food and refreshments while you preview the cattle. Feel free to contact me or any of the owners with your questions or comments. Sincerely,

An Angus Pathfinder Dam that has done it all for Stewart Select Angus, W58 records average progeny ratios of WW 3@106, YW 3@107 and IMF 5@124. This is the first year we have flushed cows since the mid-90s, and you can see why this one was chosen to be one of four donor cows for us. We flushed her twice and have left her open to allow the buyer to capitalize on the genetics this direct daughter of Bextor has to offer. We currently plan to send her bull calf by Black Granite to Midland. If you want to build a cow herd around mass, guts and plenty of rib, this cow will get you there. Her marbling EPD and ratios are hard to find in any herd, let alone one from a herd of over 100 cows. From our prominent Lucy family, here is a cow that will have a lasting impact on anyone’s herd. W58’s GE-EPDs rank her in the top 3% of Angus dams for Milk and Marbling; top 10% for $W, $F and $G; top 15% for YW and top 20% for WW. • Sells open and ready to flush.

Her sire, BC Balance 516-7, was produced by the Bill Conley Angus program in Missouri. He is a direct son of the Genex/CRI AI sire BC Matrix 4132, back to the ever-popular E Belle family on the bottom side. Balance stems from a daughter of BC Marathon 7022 and the BC 112 JR E Belle 7022 516, back to the famous CAF E Belle 259 on the bottom side. His grandam is a maternal sister to BC Belle Ringer 4053 and BC Wager 405-5. CAF E Belle 259 had a phenomenal production record of 11@96 for birth, 11@104 for weaning and 9@105 for yearling. She was selected as the 1996 National Junior Show Grand Champion Cow/Calf Pair and was undefeated every time shown in class throughout her phenomenal show career.
