96 ANGUS LOTS

Welcome to our 17th Annual Sale! Dear Friends, We have presented another outstanding selection for your evaluation. Our focus has always been on producing superior, functional cattle that excel in every way possible. The process of selecting and mating quality stock to achieve a desirable product is our passion. It is difficult to sell many of these individuals, but they must be offered to demonstrate the quality we desire to produce and to make room on the ranch for the next generation.

Roxanne & Barry Pollard

We have moved the sale to a later date to provide our customers more time to visit us and evaluate the cattle before the gavel falls on the first lot. Thanks always to Jesse, Randy, Dinah, Davey, José, Geraldo, Lacey, Mark, Linda and my wife, Roxanne, for your help and dedication throughout the year. If any of us can be of assistance to you at any time, please give us a call. Also, remember we will be having a steak dinner and entertainment Friday evening before the sale, so please plan to join us…and especially on sale day, September 27th! Thanks, Barry Pollard

Welcome to the Seventeenth Annual Pollard Farms Sale. It is my honor to continue to assist in the marketing of the Pollard Farms program, and although I have been involved with this operation since its inception, this is the first year I have served as sale manager; I want to sincerely thank Dr. Barry and Roxanne Pollard for this opportunity to follow the example set by Eddie and Ruth while serving sixteen years in that role. While taking photos this summer, I paused to reflect on the progress this breeding program has made since its inception almost twenty years ago. I know Dr. Pollard and his crew are extremely proud to see the fruits of their labor culminate. This seventeenth annual female offering represents elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in our industry. The genetics and genomically enhanced EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none, as is the visual quality of this exceptional set of cattle. Over the past several years, the Angus world has seen Pollard genetics appreciate in value in some of the top programs in the country. The most recent example of this was the $56,500 top selling lot of the 2014 Tennessee River Music, Inc. Sale that was purchased last August as a $7,500 heifer pregnancy. Pollard Farms is again sharing their very best from the elite donors in their operation and want to continue to share in the success of their customers. The Pollard team of Barry, Roxanne, Jesse, Randy, Dinah and Lacey has worked tirelessly to breed, produce and present this phenomenal set of females, and I know that once you see them, you will agree that this offering is their best to date. With cattle numbers at the lowest they have been since World War II and beef cattle prices at an all-time high, now is the time to take advantage of the efforts of the Pollard crew. Whether you are looking for your next elite donor, to add numbers to your herd while improving quality, or seeking a top show prospect, you will find it here on September 27, 2014. Please join us Friday ahead of the sale to preview the cattle and enjoy food, drink, fellowship and the one-of-a-kind entertainment of Buck Goucher. As always, If I can be of assistance in any way prior to or during the sale, please do not hesitate to call. Sincerely,

Matt C. Sims

The sale cattle are available for inspection at your convenience. Be sure to join us Friday evening, September 26th, for dinner & entertainment. Coffee & donuts will be available Saturday morning, September 27th …lunch & refreshments will be served before & during the sale.

• It is a rare to have the opportunity to buy a proven female with this kind of an EPD profile! • This extremely well-made daughter of SCAR Long Range has genomically enhanced EPDs that rank in the top 1% of the breed when compared to current dams for five traits—Marbling, RE, $F, $G and $B, while ranking in the top 2% for WW and YW and the top 10% for Milk and $W. • As a two year old, 0583 weaned her first calf with a ratio of 112. She is from a cow family that led the way at Snow Creek Angus Ranch before their dispersal. • A.I. 4/10/14 to G A R Prophet. Checked safe, due 1/18/15.

Livestock evaluation and expected progeny differences (EPDs) have now evolved to include the use of DNA as the most predictable, accurate information to assess the actual merit for quality and production of an individual animal. Today these are known as genomic-enhanced EPDs, or GE-EPDs. Zoetis, formerly known as Pfizer Animal Health, has formed a partnership with Angus Genetics, Inc.,® allowing Angus breeders to increase accuracy and dependability of EPDs, especially for younger animals. In fact, depending on the trait, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they had already sired or produced 8 to 20 calves. Several of the individuals selling September 27th were selected for the genomic profile, and these results are included in the sale book. Percentile ranks range from 1 to 100, with lower values indicating a more favorable ranking for the trait. If you are making selection decisions for traits that have an EPD provided by the American Angus Association, then the EPD should be considered the selection tool of choice. DAM

Lot 65

Both Lot 65 and her daughter selling as Lot 66 are bold bodied, powerfully constructed females with tremendous shape and dimension. The maternal granddam, Wells Ever Entense 651T, was the Late Intermediate Calf Champion at the 2007 National Junior Angus Show and has continued to eclipse her prowess in the show ring with her production as a donor. Six maternal sisters to the dam of Lot 65 sold in our 2013 sale for a total gross of $39,250 to average $6,542. This family is consistent in phenotype, numerical balance and individual performance. Lots 65 and 66 descend from one of the Angus breed’s most notable families, tracing back to the $250,000 Sitz Everelda Entense 1137.

She has been a top donor in the Pollard and Express Ranches herds, producing 33 sons and 22 daughters. • Her pedigree represents a blending of the timeless genetics of the legendary Pathfinder Dam GAR Scotch Cap 867 with Pathfinder Sires D H D Traveler 6807 and the $160,000 Leachman Right Time. The $60,000-valued second dam of this Blackcap donor is a full sister to the $96,000-valued Coleman Blackcap 211, who was the featured top-selling Lot 1 cow of the 2005 Coleman Sale and has gone on to produce a number of sale features. • Maternal sisters to the granddam of these four flush sisters include the $120,000 GAR EXT 2114, the $300,000 GAR EXT 2104 and Coleman Blackcap 0813, who sold 1/2 interest for $240,000 for a $480,000 valuation in the 2006 Coleman Sale as the breed’s record-selling two year old and the top-valued female ever to sell in Montana. • The legendary Pathfinder third dam of Lots 70A, 70B, 70C and 70D has a progeny weaning ratio of 106 on five natural calves and a progeny yearling ratio of 104 on six head with 152 evaluated by ultrasound and 73 daughters in production in the AHIR program.
