Enrichment courses For students taking enrichment courses there is no required attendance. It is recommended that a student attend each class in order to receive the highest benefit from the course.
Course cancellations Some courses have a minimum
enrollment requirement. Refunds are given on a course fee in the event a course is cancelled due to low enrollment.
Dress code Summer is a time to dress casually. However, we expect that the students’ attire will reflect a sense of good taste. Modest shorts, t-shirts and jeans are acceptable.
HS Academic Credit Some courses may be taken for high school credit and may be placed on a student’s transcript. These courses are marked with an (*). The course description will identify if a .5 credit or 1 credit will be earned. Courses without an (*) are enrichment courses offered with no high school credit.

DOLL HOUSE DÉCOR CAMP
Students will work with a variety of styles and media, including graphite, watercolor, acrylic, clay and glass. Each day, students will focus on the work of a specific arts, while learning techniques to apply that artist’s style in their own work. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. June 11-15 M-F, 9:30 am – noon Entering Ages: 7-12 years old Location: Middle School Fee: $125 This busy class is designed around life in the pioneer 1800’s. We will use Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Farmer Boy as a read aloud through the week. Students will bake bread, make butter and jam, weave, sew a “quilt” doll pillow, make soap and a candle. They even get to make a clay mug to drink hot coco (whole milk, shaved chocolates, cinnamon, & vanilla – of course) on the last day. Enrollment is limited to 30 students. BIBLE ADVENTURE CAMP
June 4-8 M-F, 9:00-1:30 Entering PK-5 Location: Student Life Center Fee: $95 Led by SACS juniors and seniors, your young students will make awesome friends! While learning about the Armor of God, students will make crafts, play games, worship, and enjoy Christian community. Bring water bottle and lunch. Camp t-shirt will be provided. Students will also complete hands-on engaging activities to help the community while practicing servant leadership and leading by example. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. SACS enrichment activities will help keep your child’s mind active and sharp when school is out of session. Each day we will focus on different language elements. The program will build on your child’s literacy abilities to strengthen his or her language skills such as rhyming, story comprehension, letter recognition with sounds, reading of high frequency words, and other concepts. Unlike a standard math class, a math camp is more of a community. It incorporates activities that stimulate problem-solving skills and at the same time, it nurtures interaction among students so that they are able to improve their mathematical capabilities in a positive and supportive environment. Math camp provides fun and stimulating hands-on activities that even non-math lovers will enjoy. Enrollment is limited to 16 students. Instructor: Michelle Johnson

SACS Reading Camps will provide students opportunity to enrich and improve their reading skills. Each day we will focus on creating a love of reading while exploring themes and genres that capture the imagination. The program will build on your child’s literacy abilities to strengthen his or her reading skills such as making personal connections with the texts, making inferences, summarizing, and analyzing characters, reading fluency and word attack skills. Students will embark on an adventure to discover the fascinating cultures of Latin American countries! They will discover a different Latin American country each day through creating arts and crafts that are special to each country’s culture, playing games, learning various Latin American dances and songs, as well as tasting foods from a few of the countries. Students will also learn introductory level Spanish through interactive story time and the many discoveries they will make during their adventure! “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” This camp will help you create your own scrapbook, cards, and other fun projects. All supplies are included in the cost. HIGH SCHOOL ALGEBRA I Refresher (No Credit)

Students will build a solid foundation of Algebra in preparation for Algebra I, Geometry or Algebra II. This course is designed to help students practice problems solving methodologies and to use graphs to visualize solutions based on variable inputs and outputs of algebraic equations. Incoming 9th Grade students will study the Ancients through Late Antiquity. Students will trace great people, ideas, and events which gave rise to our modern world. Skills learned in Art I and Art II are incorporated and enhanced through this course. Each student will use his or her prior knowledge in the previous courses to investigate more thoroughly 2D and 3D projects. Students must show initiative and good work habits in addition to being interested in art.

Students will learn drawing skills, making value studies based on still life arrangements, using reference photos and imagination.
Begin your artistic pursuits here as you learn more about the history of art and different avenues of art expression. Create art applying the elements of art and principles of design in a positive, nurturing, and fun environment. Learn how to use a variety of art making materials including drawing, painting, sculpting, printmaking, and installation art. Put your creativity to practice as you learn about creating three-dimensional art. Explore your interests in a positive and structured environment as you use materials like metal, clay, wood, paper and more! Enjoy learning more about different theories of art and design and explore symbolism, metaphor, and iconography as you refine your craftsmanship skills.

This course is designed to challenge and build the students’ prior experiences with the many different forms of art media, artists, art movements and art history. This course will help students develop more advanced knowledge and skill for multiple art techniques, methods and media. The students will be able to demonstrate their own creativity as well as follow specific guidelines set forth for certain projects to represent “real world” applications of art.

Students will learn color theory and painting skills. Students will work with acrylics to complete a selfportrait and a flower study.

Students will work with oil paint, learning more refined blending techniques while painting from still life arrangements and landscape.

This class focuses on incorporating both wheel throwing and hand building techniques, glazing and painting with acrylics to create functional as well as non-utilitarian pieces.

SUMMER AT SACS is FULL of opportunities for your students to keep in shape and improve skills. All camps are held on our campus, taught by various coaches. Below is a reference for all camps offered. REGISTRATION DEADLINES: Wednesday, March 7, 2018 Registration for sophomore, junior, and senior students opens. Registration remains open until classes are full. Rising freshmen may not register for Summer School courses until after the course Scheduling Meeting on March 7 at 2:00 pm in the SLC. Monday, May 21, 2018 Balance due for all registered courses. If balance is not received by this date, the student will be dropped from the course and those on the waitlist will be enrolled.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: For students taking courses in which high school credit is given, they must attend 90% of the class time in order to receive credit. Students who miss more than 10% of the class time WILL NOT receive high school credit for the course taken.
