Mayor Ardell F. Brede
It is my extreme pleasure to offer “Congratulations” to our very own Rochester Civic Theatre on its 60th Anniversary of providing outstanding theater experiences to our citizens since its very first play “Light up the Sky,” September, 1951.
I believe it was Debbie Boone who sang “You light up my Life” and the Civic Theatre has been lighting up lives (and the sky) in Rochester for these 60 years. The Arts are a key ingredient for any community and the Civic Theatre has been a leader in providing “vitality and livability” not only for Rochester but also our entire region.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
“Generosity of spirit is the heart of art and volunteers are the heart of our theatre” Gregory Stavrou, Executive Director SUE ZAHASKY, Recipient of 2009 – 2010 Joe Saidy Award for Outstanding Volunteer JAMES SCUDAMORE, Youth Award recipient for Outstanding Service 2009 – 2010 MACKENZIE RUTHERFORD & NICOLE WILLIAMSON, Actors and future RCT stars.
This is a fact for the theater’s patrons but additionally for those volunteers who are on stage, backstage or taking tickets. A particular joy is seeing a colleague, neighbor or relative performing and seeing them in a “new” way. As a long-time season ticket subscriber I know I will see “professional” performances and familiar plays as well as plays that may stretch me beyond my comfort zone. Through it all, the Rochester Civic Theatre stimulates me as I know it will you. I encourage you to re-subscribe or subscribe for the first time, and to support this dynamic contributor to our diverse cultural community. I am sure you will not be disappointed. Welcome to YOUR Civic Theatre! Mayor Ardell F. Brede

HOME GAMES
By Tom Ziegler October 21– November 6, 2011 Mertle Mae Tucker supports herself, her dad, a canary and a blind cat working as a truck dispatcher. Dad, once a Yankee, spent the 1955 season on the bench and then retired rather than be traded to Cleveland. He lives in a demented state, walking around in his uniform and talking to the audience as he would to Casey Stengel. When Mertle Mae takes a night school class, she meets and falls in love with a successful young executive. He loves Mertle Mae but is not so sure about taking on dear old dad. He finds an old folks home in Cleveland, but Mertle Mae can’t bring herself to put her father there. Dad, more aware than the lovers realize, informs Casey that he will allow himself to be traded to Cleveland after all. • Times: Thurs at 7:30pm, Fri & Sat at 8:00pm, Sun at 2:00pm • Viewing age: Age 13 and up • Audition: September 13 and 14 at 7:00pm • Comedy

FOUR PLAYS FOR COARSE ACTORS By Michael Green et al. June 1 – 17, 2012
Four short plays are mounted by a small theater company with disastrous results. Hilariously, everything which can go wrong in a production does so. II Fornicazione is a “grim” tale of operatic adultery, poison and mayhem. Streuth is the crime story Agatha Christie would never have dared to write. A Collier’s Tuesday Tea combines the kitchen and the coal mine with an irreverent glance at D.H. Lawrence. All’s Well that Ends As You Like It pushes the genius of the bard to its limits while filching lines from most of his plays. In all, cues are missed, effects fail, props are lost and confusion reigns, but the coarse actors struggle on. • Times: Thurs at 7:30pm, Fri & Sat at 8:00pm, Sun at 2:00pm • Viewing age: Ages 13 and up • Audition: April 17 and 18 at 7:00pm • Comedy

We are part of the cultural tapestry of our community, which is why the Rochester Civic Theatre produces and presents one of the nation’s longest continuouslyrunning programs about sexual abuse awareness and prevention. Working in partnership with Victim Services of Olmsted County and Rochester Public Schools, we bring this important work to over 10,000 students, educators, and parents annually through the two plays, “Touch” and “No Easy Answers”. 4TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY & INCLUSIVITY January 2012 The City of Rochester is dedicated to “building an inclusive community” and the Rochester Civic Theatre is proud to be recognized for our relentless commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. In 2010 we presented the play RACE TO THE FINISH LINE to over 9,000 students from throughout Southern Minnesota and in 2011 we accepted the commission to write our second original play exploring multi-cultural dynamics. In January 2012 we are proud once again to partner with the Rochester Diversity Council to present a wide array of multi-generational, multi-cultural, and cross-disciplinary performances, exhibits, workshops, and discussion forums throughout the month. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, in celebration of our community and with dedication to the concept of inclusivity and community partnership, this year’s celebration will once again guide us through intellectual, artistic, and spiritual explorations of our shared humanity and responsibilities.
“The partnership and sharing between Rochester Civic Theatre and the Diversity Council has built relationships, bettered our respective organizations, benefitted Kay Hocker our entire community and worked to welcome and include all people who live, work and visit in Rochester.” Kay Hocker, Executive Director, Diversity Council.
