After finishing third in Group B of the Asian Group Qualifiers they faced the UAE in an elimination play-off. We had to move on from this disappointment and turn things around if we had any hopes of making it to Qatar. Getting a narrow 2-1 victory against the UAE meant it was time to face Peru, who were unable to achieve automatic qualification in the South American Qualifiers.
Peru were the heavy favourites into this do-or-die match, in which the winner would earn their ticket to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Our hero of the match became Andrew Redmayne when he saved the deciding penalty to win the shoot-out for the Socceroos.
