NRCS accepting applications for the ACEP

USDA NRCS News Release The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Montana is accepting applications for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) Agricultural Land Easement (ALE) enrollment option. While NRCS accepts easement applications year-round, applications for the current funding cycle must be submitted by January 28, 2022. “Agricultural Land Easements are one of the many tools available to landowners for the long-term protection of working lands which build sustainable agriculture, manage future development or protect critical habitat for wildlife,” said Allen Persinger, NRCS assistant state conservationist for easement programs in Montana. ACEP-ALE provides financial assistance to eligible entities, including land trusts and state and local units of government, for purchasing easements that protect the agricultural use and conservation values of eligible land by limiting nonagricultural uses of the land. In the case of working farms, the program helps farmers and ranchers keep their land in agriculture. Landowners interested in an ACEP-ALE easement must enter into an agreement with an eligible entity to be considered for enrollment into the program. Find a list of CONTINUED ON PAGE A2

Strong winds, drought conditions and low humidity make for TERRIBLE outcomes. Central Montana’s small town of Denton suffered an extreme loss. Homes were destroyed in the wildfire that swept through the plains on Wednesday, December 1, evacuating the small town. Their small grocery store, garages, vehicles, etc. have been destroyed. Dutton State Bank and Opportunity Bank have accounts set up for the displaced people and an online auction called Denton Fire Relief Fund is currently being held and a live one will be held at a later date.
