We Will Rebuild - a local musician’s tribute
As the Bundaberg region continues to clean up and the severity of the situation sets in, local musician Pete O’Brien is once again compelled to express the community’s emotional upheaval and hope by putting pen to paper. He has just written “We Will Rebuild” in an effort to support the community through song. “I can not believe that we are here again – though this time it is much worse. Through the devastation the community are coming together and showing the true Bundaberg spirit and I was compelled to help through music. I was inspired to write this song in an attempt to capture the essence of this town and to help uplift the spirit of it’s residents,” said musician, Pete Obrien. Recently released “We all live in the same town” single was written by Pete when the 2010/2011 Bundaberg floods triggered a series of emotions within the community. “Ironically I was in Tamworth performing when Bundaberg once again was engulfed by the flood waters. I was in the top 10 from over 400 in the Professional busking comp. Five minutes before I
went on the Toyota Open Air Main Stage in the Park I had a phone call telling me what had happened in Bundy. I sang ‘’We All Live In The Same Town’’ with tears in my eyes to over 2000 people,” said Pete. Pete also performed at local evacuation centres with many other local musicians helping to bide the time of evacuees and help them through with the power of music.
