PLOVMAND

WENDY PLOVMAND As an illustrator and multi-media artist, Wendy Plovmand works on a wide range of commercial projects from editorial, advertising, packaging to large-scale site-specific commissions. She has exhibited her work worldwide from Tokyo, Rome, London, New York and Copenhagen. Her dynamic work uses a mixture of media depending upon the project, often using hand painted treatments and materials, including hand-rendering, painting, photography, collage, recycled materials, ceramics, and digital manipulation. For some site specific projects you might see her high up on scaffolding applying paint with her hands, or she might print the artwork and apply it to a wall or interior. Wendy has a MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in London and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture & Design.

Cients include Ace Hotel, Bo Concept, Guess, Topshop, Taschen, BMW, Wagner Skis, Magasin, Eurowoman,WWD, Dare and Nylon Magazine. She is the creative vision behind Artiig—a wearable art label she has created that pushes the limitations of the art experience out of the gallery box. www.artiig.com

Did you always want to be an artist? Yes, I always wanted to be an artist. I also considered becoming a fashion designer or a writer!

Tell us about your work. Bold, detailed, pop, feminine and uncanny in an intriguing sense.

What inspired you to become an illustrator? The desire to tell visually intriguing stories.

Do you listen to music while you paint and if so, what music most sparks your creativity? Yes always! Music

is very important for me when I work. I use it to let sentiments flow in the right direction while I work on a specific project.

Describe your work environment/studio.

I work in an old brewery - Carlsberg in Copenhagen. The studio itself has high ceilings and lots of natural light. It is a raw space with a charming history.

What song would you chose as the soundtrack to your life? “Let’s dance” - David Bowie. If you were a superhero, what superpowers would you posses? I was actually named Wendy after the

character in Peter Pan, so I always believed I could fly. I think flying would be such a wonderful thing to do.

If you were mythical creature, what creature would you be? A Unicorn

What is your mantra in life? “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams -Live the life you have imagined” -Thoreau.

ARTiiG : WEARABLE ART As an artist working more and more in the domain of public space and largescale com-missions, I came up with ARTiiG wearable artwork. By wearing art pieces in the public space art communicates with a larger number of people and not simply those in the art world, who visit galleries or art shows. With my background as both an artist and a creative director in the fashion industry, I wanted to merge these two worlds and what was more accessible to people and relevant for me to use as a canvas, than the clothes we wear? The vision of ARTiiG is to show love and appreciation for art as a way of communicating and being in the world. Each style is numbered in a limited edition. Similar to an artwork, all sweatshirts have a title and an artistic idea behind it, described on a card, that accompany all styles. Wendy Plovmand @ARTIIG
