The Trail Blazers are dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children and families who have been historically underserved, where they live (environmental sustainability), learn (education), and play (sport and physical activity). The Trail Blazers Foundation gives grants and scholarships to nonprofits, schools, and students and is funded through meaningful corporate partnerships and revenue from Trail Blazers license plate sales, 5050 raffle, retail programs, and other fundraising efforts. During the 2018-19 season, Trail Blazers Inc. and the Trail Blazers Foundation donated over 1 million dollars to support youth across Oregon and SW Washington.
The Trail Blazers believe our home court extends far beyond the arena and everything we do in our lives makes an impact, so we encourage fans to join us in our efforts to protect our planet and our community to ensure a brighter future for generations to come.
The Trail Blazers are committed to seeing all youth graduate from high school by supporting programs, investing resources, and raising awareness of successful youth and the schools and organizations that help them effectively navigate their academic journeys.
The Trail Blazers are committed to ensuring that youth have positive early experiences playing basketball by running year-round camps and clinics, supporting existing programs, and investing resources in the community that provide access to sport. www.trailblazers.com/community

Tonight’s Artist: Amanda Donahue

MEET THE ARTIST
AMANDA DONAHUE HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR INTERPRETATION OF RIP CITY? My interpretation showcases the spirit of Portland – the ability to be a city of wildly individualistic people, but to also be a city that is united. The main feature of my design is a pair of hands lifting up a basketball crowned with roses – that’s how I see Rip City. Even when things get tough, we rise together.
WHY DID YOU APPLY TO BE AN ARTIST IN THE GAMEDAY POSTER SERIES? I am always looking for ways to get involved with my community, and this was such a fun opportunity to create something for the city I love. It also gave me the opportunity to stretch my creative muscles and create work for a field I do not typically get to collaborate with. I love a good challenge, and this just seemed like a no brainer! 18
HOW DID YOU INTEGRATE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE IN THIS POSTER? My specialty is hand-lettering, so I wanted to be sure to incorporate that into my design as much as possible. Making things by hand in an age where digital reigns supreme is so important to me – I hand-painted each element of my design in bright, bold colors before digitizing it for print. I think my personal style is also defined by the use of color. I never shy away from vibrant hues and love finding any way that I can to incorporate pink. WHAT INSPIRED YOU ON THE DESIGN ON THIS POSTER? I was thrilled to not only be chosen to design a poster for one of our home games, but to also be chosen to create the design for
TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • ARTIST FEATURE
the night honoring Women in Sports. A huge part of my artistic practice and business is founded on empowering women to find and use their voice, so I was excited to create a design showcasing the strength and power of women. I wanted my design to feel uplifting, optimistic and bold, like many of the women who inspire me. WHAT WERE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS? I was most excited about the freedom to interpret the spirit of the Trail Blazers and showcase my work to a new audience. I looked at this process as a chance to highlight what I love most about this city and the power of sports. Despite winning or losing, I love that sports showcase what we’re capable of when we work hard, work together and rise together. I’m so honored to be included in this year’s poster series and have enjoyed every step of the process. WHAT IMPACT DOES THE GAMEDAY POSTER SERIES HAVE ON THE ART COMMUNITY? The Gameday Poster Series is an incredible platform for the abundantly talented community of artists in Portland. I love that it supports each artists’ individual style, and how it celebrates the merging of two worlds that are not often associated with each other. Artists and athletes have more in common than you might think – both fields take incredible amounts of practice, focus, skill and determination. This program is just another way the Trail Blazer’s organization continues to bring people together, and I love that.
HAVE YOU HAD A FAVORITE GAMEDAY POSTER SO FAR? I love the variety of styles so far, but a few of my favorites have been Marika Paz’s design for the Magic game and Drake Cereal’s design for the game against the Raptors. I love the whimsical nature of Marika’s design and Drake had me at the pink background and roses. Both of these designs have a playful quality that I am drawn to, and I love how they have succeeded at merging their own unique style with the Trail Blazer’s brand.

JESSICA BARNES SENIOR EXECUTIVE CHEF, ROSE QUARTER DESCRIBE YOUR ROLE AND WHAT YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES ARE WITH THE ROSE QUARTER ▶ I am the Senior Executive Chef at the Rose Quarter with Levy. I oversee all of the food operations here, including our concession stands, luxury suites, catering spaces and restaurants. I get the pleasure of directing four salaried chefs and over 100 culinarians. I assist with menu writing, scheduling, ordering, inventory, staffing and anything else I can be of assistance with. I also get to be on TV from time to time and talk about how much I love working here! WHAT PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE DID YOU HAVE THAT HELPED GET YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE? ▶ My career has been very exciting! I started in Sports and Entertainment in Cincinnati, Ohio with the Cincinnati Reds baseball organization as a Senior Sous Chef. My next step took me to St. Louis with the Cardinals baseball team as Executive Chef, where I got the amazing opportunity to plan and execute the 2011 World Series run (and WIN) for their organization. From St. Louis, I moved to Seattle and was the Executive Sous Chef at CenturyLink, home of the Seattle Seahawks
30
and Sounders. This opportunity allowed me to participate in the 43rd Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where my guys took home the trophy again! I’ve been here at the Rose Quarter since November of 2014, and I can’t imagine where I’ll go next. WHY DO YOU THINK MODA CENTER FOOD OPTIONS STAND OUT RELATIVE TO OTHER ARENAS AND WHY? ▶ One of the most unique things about Portland are the Portlandians. This is an incredible food city, and our fans are very knowledgeable about food. Keeping our fans engaged
TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • EMPLOYEE FEATURE
and excited about our food story is the most difficult part of my job. This is what makes us stand out compared to other NBA arenas. The city demands that we have good, quality and diverse offerings and we are constantly looking for the next trend, big excitement item and changing what we are already doing to make it better. We have a diverse roster of restaurant partners in the building that help keep us on our toes, and relevant to the city around us. WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROVIDE A WIDE VARIETY OF FOOD OPTIONS FOR ROSE QUARTER GUESTS? ▶ There are 41 (at least) games a year! We have to keep our selections fun and constantly changing because so many of our fans come to the Rose Quarter game after game and we want to make sure that they are just as excited every time they walk through our doors.
planning, organization and people skills to do it properly and to do it well. WHICH FOOD STAND AT MODA CENTER IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHY? ▶ I don’t know if I am allowed a favorite. I like to eat a very wide variety of food, depending on the day and my mood. The teriyaki chicken at Bap N Noodle is delicious, the waffle fries are addictive, the poke at Kama’aina is refreshing and makes you feel healthy, Sizzle Pie pizza is always good at the end of a busy day, Killer Burger’s PBPBB is to die for – but I can only eat half or I fall into a coma – the nacho’s at the 10 Barrel Taproom are the stuff dreams are made of… and the Hand Wrapped Pretzel Keilbasa at Speck – I wont even tell you how many of those I’ve eaten! I guess we’re lucky we get at least 41 games. It will take you that long to get through the whole building!
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB? ▶ The most rewarding part of my job is the time I get to spend with my staff. We have an incredible culinary team here at the Rose Quarter and I couldn’t be prouder of my chefs and all of my culinarians. We try to make this a family atmosphere in our kitchens, and I look forward every day to walking into work so I can spend time with my work family. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE ASPIRING TO BE IN YOUR POSITION? ▶ Give it time and don’t push yourself too fast. Get out and do as many crazy culinary opportunities as you can. This is a very time-consuming job and it takes a lot of ripcity est. 1970
