TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • WELCOME
WELCOME TO
RIP CITY Thank you for joining us tonight as we celebrate Blaze’s birthday! Blaze the Trail Cat joined the Trail Blazers in 2002 and has been the team’s biggest fan ever since. From being born in the towering pines of the Oregon Cascades, to finding his way to the Oregon Humane Society and eventually being adopted by the Portland Trail Blazers, Blaze has become a staple at every game, watching, cheering, dancing and more. Through all of the ups and downs, Blaze has been there with his best friends – the Rip City fans – supporting his favorite players and coaches. Check out Blaze and his furry friends as they parade around the concourses one hour before tip-off. Blaze’s Pregame Parade starts at Entry A-18 at 6:00 p.m. and tours the 100 & 300 level concourses, finishing in Kid City.

The Trail Blazers are dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children and families who have been historically underserved, where they live (environmental sustainability), learn (education), and play (sport and physical activity). The Trail Blazers Foundation gives grants and scholarships to nonprofits, schools, and students and is funded through meaningful corporate partnerships and revenue from Trail Blazers license plate sales, 5050 raffle, retail programs, and other fundraising efforts. During the 2018-19 season, Trail Blazers Inc. and the Trail Blazers Foundation donated over 1 million dollars to support youth across Oregon and SW Washington.
The Trail Blazers believe our home court extends far beyond the arena and everything we do in our lives makes an impact, so we encourage fans to join us in our efforts to protect our planet and our community to ensure a brighter future for generations to come.
The Trail Blazers are committed to seeing all youth graduate from high school by supporting programs, investing resources, and raising awareness of successful youth and the schools and organizations that help them effectively navigate their academic journeys.
The Trail Blazers are committed to ensuring that youth have positive early experiences playing basketball by running year-round camps and clinics, supporting existing programs, and investing resources in the community that provide access to sport. www.trailblazers.com/community

MELISSA CORRARO EVENT MANAGER, RIP CITY MANAGEMENT DESCRIBE YOUR ROLE AND WHAT YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES ARE WITH THE ROSE QUARTER â–ś I am one of four Event Managers at the Rose Quarter. As an EM, we coordinate logistics for a wide range of over 200 events per year throughout our campus between Moda Center, Veterans Memorial Coliseum, our 40,000 sq. ft Exhibit Hall and the outdoor Commons area. Our events range from Trail Blazers and Winterhawks games, concerts, family shows, trade shows, high school and college graduations, among many others. I am the main contact for the facility during my assigned events, acting as a liaison between the client and all internal departments. It is my job to ensure client needs are being met for their event from load-in to load-out. The variety of events presents fun and unique challenges sometimes, and I am constantly trying to find solutions to any problems that arise on a day-to-day basis. I rely on collaboration and assistance from other departments to make sure each event is executed to the highest standard to create a positive and safe experience for every guest that steps on our campus.
30
WHAT PARTS OF YOUR JOB DO YOU FIND TO BE THE MOST CHALLENGING? WHY? â–ś The most challenging part of my job is trying to stay one step ahead of everyone in preparation for events. It is our responsibility as Event Managers to collaborate with other internal departments and think through the entirety of the event from the perspective of both the client and the guest to provide the best experience.
TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • EMPLOYEE FEATURE
WHAT EVENT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TO WORK AND WHY? ▶ Throughout my three years, I have managed 150+ events, between basketball, hockey and concerts. Even with several standout concerts, such as Jonas Brothers, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande and Travis Scott, my favorite event was the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional tournament in March 2019. For personal reasons, I was looking forward to it from being a former player and enjoying watching basketball. On the professional side, it was going to be the first NCAA tournament event on campus since the Men’s first and second rounds in 2015 and the first Women’s games that we have hosted! I spent over nine months preparing for that weekend in conjunction with the NCAA, Oregon State as the host institute, ESPN and other internal and external groups. It was stressful and challenging at times, but it was amazing to see it all come together. WHAT LED YOU TO WORKING IN SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT EVENT MANAGEMENT? ▶ Like many others, sports have always been passion of mine; I was an athlete growing up, played collegiate basketball and discovered there was a business side of sports. I did several internships during my undergrad and grad school in athletic departments and at arenas. I was still learning what path I wanted to take with my career when I received the opportunity to intern with the Blazers in Venue Management in 2016. The time I spent with the organization provided me such a valuable experience and I was hired on full-time
after seven months to be an Event Manager, coming up on three years in that role. I truly didn’t know until I was in this role that it is something I would enjoy so much, and my skill set aligns perfectly with. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE ASPIRING TO BE IN YOUR POSITION? ▶ My biggest piece of advice would be to remain flexible and open-minded. No matter how prepared you think you are for an event, there is always going to be something that pops up or throws a wrench in your plans and you must adjust on the fly. Having the ability to problem solve and make quick decisions is key to being successful in my role. There is never only one right way to do something, just what you think is best in that moment and being confident with that decision. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PORTLAND BRUNCH SPOT? ▶ Cheryl’s on 12th! Their cheesy hash browns with corn flakes on top remind me of home... add that to one of their delicious omelets and I am all set!

Here at the Rose Quarter
Celebrating Five Decades of Extraordinary Employees Meet Olivia Hettrich, Premium Services Concierge. The Premium Services department is responsible for ensuring the highest quality experience for Courtside, Club, and Suite Level clients year-round. Olivia has been working as a Premium Concierge for five seasons. She is responsible for providing excellent service, crafting solutions, and helping clients access all of their benefits. “I started in 2015. My aunt works in the same department and recommended the job. I’ve been here ever since!”
OLIVIA HETTRICH
A Hillsboro native, Olivia grew up attending Trail Blazers games with her family. However, she never imagined herself working for the company.
“I grew up a Blazers fan. My whole family played basketball. I played in high school and college.” Olivia graduated from Western Oregon University with a degree in business. She continued her career by attending interior design school, and now works full-time as an interior designer for a flooring company all while working parttime in Premium Services. “It’s tiring working two jobs. I basically work my full-time job 7:00 to 4:00 then work at the Rose Quarter 5:00 to 10:30. And while I don’t need the second job, I keep it because of the people (and the basketball, of course). My co-workers, and our guests are all so amazing.” When asked how she creates extraordinary moments for guests, Oliva’s response is simple. “I just really love to help people. It makes me happy. Sometimes guests come to us with ticket problems, or confusion, and I am gratified knowing I helped turn their bad experience into a good one.” If you ever find yourself on the Club Level, make sure to stop by the concierge desk, to thank Olivia as well as the rest of the Premium Services team.
