I Knew I was A TrailBlazer: Meg Harrel
I Knew I Was a TRAILBLAZER
FEATURING Meg Harrel
This issue, Trailblazer would like to introduce you to Meg Harrel, a registered nurse, RVer, travel blogger, wife, and mom to two kids! She believes there is always adventure to be had, and we think she’s onto something.
TB: How long have you been camping and RVing? Who introduced you to it? Tell us how it all began!
MH: I have been camping for about 10 years and RVing for two years! TB: How did you first hear about Thousand Trails?
MH: I heard about the Thousand Trails membership from a friend who RVs full-time! It was such a great investment!
TB: What is one of your fondest camping memories? How about one of your fondest Thousand Trails memories?
MH: One of my fondest camping memories was teaching my daughter to ride her bike in the campground. We tried all afternoon and it seemed that she wasn’t going to get it. She was so confident and happy when she finally got it. I’ll never forget the look on her face! Campgrounds breed memories and push you to be outside in nature. I will never forget seeing her ride on her own for the first time. TB: Any funny camping/RVing stories?
MH: One time my husband and I forgot to check the propane and we ended up in our PJs, in the dark, switching out a
propane tank in the middle of the night because it was 20 degrees outside! Another time a frog jumped on my face in the middle of the night! We still have no idea how it got into the RV!
TB: What type of camper are you/what equipment do you use? What do you prefer and why? (ex: fifth wheel, RV, tent, cabins, etc.)
MH: We really enjoy our 5th wheel RV because there’s enough room to spread out but it’s easy to hook up and move. It feels like a whole house!
TB: Where have you gone that you wouldn’t have otherwise, if it hadn’t been for your Thousand Trails membership? MH: The Great Smoky Mountains! We parked at Green Mountain in Lenoir, North Carolina, and we never would have found that treasure of a spot if we didn’t have a Thousand Trails membership!
TB: What is your favorite part about the outdoor lifestyle?
MH: I love the outdoor lifestyle! I love the fresh air and beautiful natural landscapes. These are the perfect ingredients for family adventure.
TB: We want to know when you knew you were the consummate camper, a true TrailBlazer. Can you finish this sentence? I knew I was a TrailBlazer when…
MH: I knew I was a TrailBlazer when…I was sitting on my deck by the fire, surrounded by mountains, next to my RV, holding my husband’s hand and I realized that we had the freedom to pick up and go anywhere. This freedom bred a huge sense of adventure inside of us. We decided to try every trail that we literally and figuratively would stumble upon in life. Since that moment, we have traveled to 20 U.S. states and six countries. I believe that no matter where you are, there is an adventure to be had! So, get out there!
