MESSAGE from

MARGUERITE

We are officially in my favorite time of the year, summer is here and our campgrounds across the country are abuzz with families enjoying the great outdoors. We kicked off the fourth year of our #100DaysofCamping promotion and I encourage you to get your rally towel and share your images. Take a minute and view the gallery of photos that have already been shared at thousandtrails.com/100DaysofCamping. I assure you that once you see the images you will be inspired to plan your summer camping trip, and search for the perfect photo op. One of the marketing tag lines we frequently use is “No RV? No Problem!” In today’s market, that phrase is relevant in so many ways. If you’ve ever considered renting an RV, there’s no shortage of options for you and your family to explore. From the traditional RV rental channels such as Cruise America, El Monte, and local dealerships, to the latest options offered through the peer-to-peer RV rental network, with a little research and planning, you and your family could be on your way to discovering the numerous benefits the RV lifestyle provides. Not yet ready to get behind the wheel of that RV? No worries, the majority of our locations provide rental accommodations for those of you who may prefer more of the comforts of home. These range from cozy cabins and cottages, to yurts and even tiny houses. No matter the outdoor vacation you’re looking for, we’re here to accommodate you.

There is a common theme that is mentioned in the customer feedback we receive, stating each campground has its own unique offering. Some may prefer more rustic surroundings, while others may want more of a resort-type atmosphere. Some locations are near major metro areas, providing options for local excursions, while others may be more remote and offer a true disconnection from your busy day-to-day. Each of these camping varieties is relevant to campers at various times in their lives. There’s nothing wrong with going from a more rustic experience one month to pampering yourself with a resort-like retreat the following month. Whatever option you are looking for this summer, with a little planning and some research, I am confident you will find a Thousand Trails location that is just right for you. The clock is ticking, so don’t let summer pass you by. Pack up the RV or vehicle of your choice, grab that #100DaysofCamping towel, and Get Out and Camp!

RVing is a great adventure and there’s always something new to learn! by Paul and Kerri Elders Let’s take a look at some simple tips for managing your RV’s interior temperature, diagnosing roof leaks (and hopefully preventing them before they start), and learn how to easily fix a “broken” turn signal. Ready? Let’s go!

THERMOSTATS We’re dependent on our RV’s thermostat to help keep us cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Today’s ducted air conditioner/heater systems usually feature a remote thermostat. Ordinarily, this remote thermostat is mounted on the surface of an interior wall, where it won’t be as greatly affected by exterior temperature changes and will read and respond to the RV’s interior temperature more accurately. Here are a few simple tips for trouble-free operation of your air conditioner’s thermostat: Contrary to popular belief, a thermostat isn’t an accelerator – your room really won’t cool any faster if you drop the thermostat to 60 degrees than it will if you set it at 72. Set the thermostat at your desired temperature and leave it there. If you turn the thermostat off in the summertime, it’s a good idea to leave it off for at least three minutes before turning it back on. This allows the air conditioner refrigerant cycle to equalize its pressure, creating less stress on the air conditioner’s compressor.

DIAGNOSING ROOF LEAKS Thanks to improved roofing materials, modern RVs are much less prone to roof leaks than in the past, but occasionally, leaks can and do happen. Nobody likes the thought of a leaky roof, especially when you’re enjoying a little vacation time in your RV. Luckily,

there’s a logical cause and effect relationship for roof leaks and they’re usually easy to trace. Even if the source of the leak is not directly above the water leak inside the RV, it’s usually a simple matter to locate its source on the rooftop. Potential problem spots should be checked regularly to ensure the integrity of your RV’s roof and to prevent leaks in the first place. If you do this yourself, exercise appropriate caution and always wear tight-fitting, slip-proof shoes. Start at the back of the RV and work your way to the front, beginning with the roof ladder. Check the plates used to secure your ladder to the roof and all mounting screws. Frequent use of the ladder often loosens the hold-down screws and may crack the sealant, especially if the ladder isn’t securely fastened to the roof beams. Tighten these screws securely without overtightening. After tightening the screws, re-caulk, again using the manufacturer’s recommended sealant around the mounting. If the recommended sealant is not readily available, a good substitute is a highquality siliconized acrylic caulking. Next, check the roof rack, especially if you frequently carry luggage and gear up and down. Most RV manufacturers install heavier decking under the outside skin of the roof rack, and the outer skin ordinarily has a reinforced nonskid surface. If this is the case, you should have minimal problems with roof leaks here, but it’s still a good idea to check all joints and seams around the rack. Use the same procedure as for the ladder: check all screws and reseal all hold-down plates, making sure to seal the screw heads with a sealant after tightening. Methodically work your way through your rig, checking all roof penetrations, including air

conditioners, roof vents, plumbing vents, antennas, etc. and seal as needed.

TURN SIGNAL TROUBLES Have you ever tested your turn signals before a big trip, only to find that one of your blinkers wasn’t blinking? The most common source of failure of an RV’s turn signals or clearance lights is corrosion on the electrical connections, a conspiracy of time and moisture. If you’ve checked for burned-out bulbs and found that they’re in perfect working order, you might have a corrosion problem. Fortunately, this is usually easy to see and easy to fix. Begin by popping off or unscrewing the light’s plastic lens. Remove the bulbs and use fine sandpaper to clean up the connections on the bulbs and their contacts. An emery board (cardboard-type fingernail file) works great for this little job. Sometimes, the ground connection (the return path for the electrical current) is supplied by the skin of the RV via the clearance light’s mounting screw, which can sometimes become corroded or rusted. If this is the case, simply remove the rusty screw and replace it with a new one. If the screw isn’t corroded but simply can’t be properly snugged in place, just replace it with a slightly larger screw, being careful not to over-tighten it. After cleaning, spray all connections with WD-40 to help prevent future corrosion, wiping the bulb’s glass surface clean before replacing it in its socket. Clean and replace the plastic lens and, if desired, lay a fine bead of clear silicone on the top and sides of the lens-to-mount joint. Don’t silicone the bottom joint, since this can seal in moisture, ultimately leading to more corrosion. Keep your eyes on the horizon, and blaze a trail. Happy travels! ¾

YOUR TECH QUESTIONS ANSWERED!

Rubber Sealing

Q

Hi, Bill, What do you suggest that I can put on the rubber seals on my storage doors to keep them from sticking to the frame? Thanks, Dan Chase

A

Hi Dan, it’s good to hear from you. Try cleaning the seals with Goo-Gone first then wipe with alcohol. Next, soak a rag heavily with silicone spray and wipe all of the seals two times. If the surface of the seals is starting to peel off, this is the sign it will be time to replace them.

Water Filters

Q

Bill, I set up my calendar to create an automatic recurring note every six months to replace the water filter cartridge on our RV (it is a single Pentair Pentek CFB-PB10). I started to replace it this morning and discovered that the old cartridge looks absolutely new, with no stains or residue of any kind. As I recall, the last time I replaced it, it was obvious this was necessary although it had been significantly longer than six months. Is there any reason not to leave it in place a while longer? I just put it back in the canister since it didn’t

10

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

look like it needed to be replaced. Can its condition be determined by visual observation or is there any other reason to change it on a regular schedule? I haven’t noticed any decrease in the water pressure. Newmar told me that the filter is ahead of everything, so that all the water goes through it, whether used directly from the incoming hose or from the storage tank. Thanks, Bob MacLeod Santa Barbara, CA

A

Bob, This is a great, insightful question. Your particular filter is a .5 micron modified carbon block filter. It is designed to remove chlorine, taste, and odor as well as a small amount of lead reduction. This design does resist plugging up with debris for a longer filter life. Carbon block filters do a much better job than activated charcoal filters because the water is forced through the carbon instead of around the carbon particles. Under normal conditions, you can run this filter for about 12 months. Unfortunately, you cannot visually determine the condition of the filter as they do filter out chlorine and other particles that can cause a taste and odor problem and they can become less effective in a shorter period of time. You have indicated that your water pressure is still good so it is

obviously not plugged up by a large number of particles. If the water still tastes pure and you have good flow, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to continue to use it for a few more months.

Propane Tank Sizes

Q

Hey Bill, We met you at the TT preserve in Cottonwood, Arizona. I do have a question about our 2016 Redwood fifth wheel. We have a propane tank on either side of the trailer and it appears that there are two LP gas regulators, one on each side, although one is smaller than the other. The smaller of the two has a small hole in it is slowly leaking propane. I am somewhat handy and have all the necessary tools but I am not sure what that small regulator is called and what I should order. See ya on the Road, Jim & Belinda

A

The smaller LP regulator that you are mentioning is actually what they call a high-pressure regulator. This helps regulate the pressure for that long run of the LP line from one side of the coach over to the automatic changeover LP regulator. When the diaphragm starts leaking on any type of an LP regulator, it will seep out one of the vent holes. When manufacturers first started

Tips and Topics

installing propane tanks on either side of the trailer, it was soon discovered that the long run of a high-pressure line from one side to the next caused problems with the automatic regulator. There are different pressures on the smaller regulator that you are mentioning. My suggestion is to remove the leaking regulator and take it to an RV parts counter and ask them to order a new one if they don’t have it in stock.

Batteries & Corrosion

Q

Bill, My 2006 Winnebago batteries that reside under the step as you enter the motorhome have been a constant problem with corrosion growing from the terminals. They are roughly about four years old, and they don’t last very long when I’m boondocking. I don’t want to take it into the repair shop every time the corrosion builds up, is there any type of a battery that I can replace my battery is with the do not continually build up corrosion? I would really like a maintenance free battery because it’s not easy for me to get under the step keep adding distilled water. Any suggestions? Thank you, Lori Davis Portland, OR

A

Lori, I understand that it’s kind of a nuisance to have to get under the steps in such a tight area while cleaning the corrosion and adding water to the batteries every month or two. The corrosion is caused by the gassing effect, which is normal with older lead-acid batteries. Your Winnebago motorhome came with a pair of 12 V batteries. My suggestion would be to replace the 2, 12-volt batteries with 2, 6-volt batteries- the Lifeline GPL-4CT would fit in place of your 2, 12 Volt batteries. Your local shop will be able to properly execute this installation, as they need to be wired in series instead of parallel like 12 Volt batteries. Lifeline Batteries are absorbed glass mat and absolutely maintenance free. These fantastic batteries can even be shipped via UPS because they don’t contain any liquid. Shop around on the Internet for the best price. As an added bonus, the two Lifeline Batteries will give you quite a bit more storage when you’re out boondocking.

Air Conditioner Tips

Q

Bill, summer is here and I’m concerned about our 10-year-old Coleman air conditioner. Can you give me a few tips for maintenance and what I need to look for to ensure that we won’t be out camping this summer and wind up without a functioning air-conditioner? Brad Johnson Denver, Colorado

A

Brad, Kudos in ahead to ensure that you’ll have a carefree camping trip this summer. Annual service on rooftop a/c units is imperative. Here’s a rundown on servicing your Coleman air conditioner. Start the process by removing and cleaning the return air filter. While the filter and intake grill assembly is off, use a bright flashlight and look up into the air-conditioner and locate the evaporator, be sure that all of the fins are clear of debris and clean. Inspect the wiring to make sure everything is intact. Remove the shroud that covers the upper unit of the air-conditioner. Hopefully, you have access an air compressor. Using about 100 psi, blow the dust and debris out of the condenser (these are the fins at the rear of the air-conditioner). Blow out any leaves or debris that may surround the fan and compressor area, and inspect the wiring. Providing there will not be any issues with mechanical failure, your air conditioner should function normally for many hours. ¾

My family recently moved to Texas and I’d like to use the Thousand Trails system this fall to go and visit for a bit. I am just learning about Chagas disease and wanted to know if you have any experience with it. I don’t want to be a “Debbie Downer” and not travel because of risks but this is something that definitely needs to be brought to the public’s attention. Thanks for sharing,

Make sure that the bins are very clean and secured with tightly fitted lids. Everyday, sweep up any spilled food that might be a temptation on the outside floor. Be sure that you have removed any possible nesting material in the baggage door compartment area that might welcome the rodents to stay a while. Hi Jenn! [To save money], I have purchased my dog food in bulk and store in large bins in my baggage door compartment in the underneath body of the fifth wheel. I am now having rodent issues. I see small and large sized rodent droppings in my RV. Ugggh. For sure, the buggers are getting in somewhere and have chewed through my plastic containers and some of the insulation. I am switching to metal bins but wondering if you have any tips on helping clear the pests. I was surprised that they broke into my RV when there are so many other food sources around for them. Thanks for your help & I look forward to your advice in each issue. Happy Trails and Puppy Dog Tails, Janna Erickson JENN Hi Janna, and thank you for your inquiry. Did you know the average adult rat consumes about 10% of its body weight in food per day? These are smart little mammals and I’m sure that one caught the scent of your tasty dog food and came back for more with their friends! Rodents of all types can contaminate more food than they can consume with their droppings, hair, and urine. To deter mice and rats, the best thing to do is to store all food products in metal bins, and you’re already on a good track with this step!

12

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

Also, eliminate all free feeding stations you might have set up in the RV. Look around with a flashlight and block off any small accesses found on the inside to the outside of your RV will help deter rodents. Used traps and closed bait stations to get rid of any remaining mice or rats that may still be taking up house space in your RV unbeknownst to you. Place snap traps along the walls with the bated end of the trap facing the wall. The tunnel-style traps work best when placed lengthwise along the walls making it an inviting dark space for mice to enter. I prefer using cheese, peanut butter, or marshmallows as bait. Make sure to use gloves when disposing of the used traps. Be sure these traps are placed in locations where your pets cannot get to them. Pack any small openings that you can find in your baggage door compartment or around the floor space behind the kitchen galley with stiff metal screen or steel wool. You can use caulking to help hold the metal in place. I do not recommend using rodenticide sides when trying to kill mice and rats because it’s not worth harming the food chain when they can be trapped, killed, and disposed of by much safer measures. Try and store any stacks of firewood away from your RV as these types of natural housing materials are attractive to rodents.

Debbie Strickland Long Beach, CA I most certainly appreciate you writing in regarding Chagas’ disease – a protozoan parasite, Typanosomacruzi, that is spread to dogs through insects most commonly known as conenose or kissing bugs. These critters are blood sucking insects that are often found in places where a blood source is available. Think rat nest kennels, wood piles, and sometimes in the human habitats. Currently there is no veterinary treatment or vaccine for Chagas disease and pets can only be protected with insect control. Keep your backyard free of brushy areas, piles of wood, and anything else that might be a breeding ground for insects. Reducing the amount of light around your home at night will help keep bug at bay because bugs are naturally attracted to illuminated areas. Dr. Sarah Hamer, Associate professor at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in Biomedical Sciences, studies the symptoms that can appear within weeks of infection of Chagas disease as well as chronic infections and symptoms related to the disease; everything from lethargy, diarrhea, and seizures, to heart failure and death. For the past few years, Dr. Hamer and her team have been working hard at learning more about the disease and how to better protect our pets and their owners from becoming infected. Go to Texas this fall and be aware, enjoy your family and know this family of RVer’s here at Thousand Trails truly appreciates you writing in to help inform us! ¾

KEEP YOUR RV CLEAN AS A WHISTLE! Whether you’re just gearing up to go on the road with your new rig or you’re a seasoned veteran, there are always new tips to learn when it comes to keeping your RV neat and tidy!

4

Don’t cause unneeded stress - take down the legs of your awning to clean it! This way, the awning will lay flat on the side of your vehicle, preventing you from poking any holes or ripping the awning away from the legs.

5

Tips and Topics

Tips

Always start with hosing down your RV. Regular removal of dirt and grime will keep the outside of your RV in top shape! The longer the dirt and grime stay, the easier it is for the protective coating around the vehicle to break down. Power Washing the side of your RV can contribute to the breakdown of the protective gel on your RV.

2

Have a particularly grimy stovetop or oven that could use a good cleaning? Generously sprinkle baking soda over your stovetop or open oven. Then, spritz some good old fashioned vinegar on top. Let the mixture sit for 15-20 minutes and watch that grime come right off! Vinegar is great for almost any surface in your RV because it is powerful enough to remove dirt, but non-toxic like other cleaning products.

3

If you travel with your pets, you know that pet hair can build up quickly. While daily brushing of your pet’s mane helps a LOT, we can’t always get to it. Tools like a simple squeegee used to clean windows is a perfect tool to remove pet hair. Just run it across the surface you want to clean and the hairs will stick to the squeegee.

If you notice some scratches in the wood in the interior of your RV, fix them by mixing a quarter cup of vinegar with three quarter of a cup of olive oil. Rub the mixture over the scratches to mask them!

ON THE TRAIL FOR

FINGER LAKES CHEESE:

Heading into the Heart of New York State’s Cheese Country By Cele & Lynn Seldon

THE STATE OF NEW YORK

is famed for its cheese and the Finger Lakes region makes for a scenic and tasty destination to explore the wide variety of cheeses available in this special part of the Empire State. And, an organization called the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance makes it easy to hit the trail and head into the heart of New York cheese country. Spreading like fingers across this lush region, the 11 deep lakes that make up the area provide a picture-perfect backdrop for farms, barns, farm stores, fields, vineyards, wineries, and more. The Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance website (flxcheese.com), which includes a helpful map, makes it easy to plan a trip to one or many of its varied members. As is the case when 22

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

planning any travel, it’s best to call ahead to any planned stops to check their opening hours and more (including where else to buy their cheese and other products). Each visit will be unique, possibly including tastings, tours, demonstrations, and shopping for cheese. The centuries-old basics for cheesemaking are relatively simple, with the labor, time, and storage involved providing an indication for why cheese – and especially artisanal cheese like that found in the Finger Lakes – can be relatively expensive (but, so worth it). Visitors to Alliance members will quickly become knowledgeable when it comes to how cheese is made through tours and conversations with cheesemakers.

There are currently ten “destination farms” in the Alliance that are open to the public with varied opening hours. Generally, from the east to the west, these farms are: Engelbert Farms (Nichols); Side Hill Acres Goat Farm (Candor); Snow Farm Creamery (Brooktondale); Scheffler Farm (Groton); Lively Run Goat Farm (Interlaken); Sunset View Creamery (Odessa); Shtayburne Farms (Rock Stream); Parulski Farms (Bath); Hemlock Ridge Farm (Avoca); and East Hill Creamery (Perry). There are also two “production only farms and producers” that aren’t open to the public, except for special events or possibly by appointment. These Alliance members are Crosswinds Farm & Creamery (Ovid) and Heaven Scent Farm (Cohocton).

Engelbert Farms near Nichols is a great place to start (or end) an exploration of Finger Lakes cheese and the region’s cheese-making and farming culture. A true family farm and farming on the same land since 1911, Engelbert Farms has been farming organically since 1981 and the farm has been certified organic since 1984 – making them the first certified organic farm in the country. No chemicals are ever used on their land or animals. Owners Kevin and Lisa Engelbert (and two of their sons) are true emissaries of everything good about Finger Lakes cheese. The farm store features organic meats (beef, pork, and veal), lots of organic produce, and – of course – cheese. Choices of cheese can include feta, gouda, cheddar, and two Engelbert

different types of tasty raw milk cheeses, including gouda-style Dream Street, asiago-style Tiara, feta-style Fetish, and a young Swiss-style appropriately called Baby Swiss. They typically produce a batch of cheese (40-55 pounds) every Friday.

Just 20 miles north, Side Hill Acres Goat Farm up near Candor is next. Russell and Rita Kellogg established their goat dairy farm in 1987 and opened their goat cheese processing plant in 1994. They feature more than 150 head of dairy goats and their popular tours give participants the opportunity to mingle with the goats, milk them by hand, and learn how cheese is made in the plant. Along with pasteurized and raw goat’s milk, goat milk ice cream, cheese fudge, goat milk soaps, Side Hill Acres cheese options can include aged logs (plain or with herbs), fresh buttons, herb cheese spreads, feta logs and crumbled feta, cream cheese, fresh mozzarella, mild cheddar, and more.

Scheffler Farm, about 25 miles further north near Groton, is next. It’s a small diversified organic operation that features five varieties of raw milk cheddar cheese, including plain, garlic, Italian herb, hot pepper, and flavorful bacon cheddar.

Next comes Snow Farm Creamery, near Brooktondale, which is about 10 miles north of Side Hill Acres. The fourth-generation dairy farm now produces four

Lively Run Goat Farm, about 30 miles or so around the west side of Cayuga Lake, makes for another fascinating stop. They were pioneers in artisanal goat cheeses and remain at the forefront of goat cheese production and innovation. The widely varied options include chévre; feta; Finger Lakes Gold; Seneca Blue Moon; Cayuga Blue; Lake Effect Cheddar; Gorge Trail Gouda; Willow Hedge; Blue Yonder; and more. Tours include an informative video and their shop features their cheeses, as well as tasty cheesecakes, truffles, and more.

Friendly Sunset View Creamery down near Odessa is about 25 miles south of Lively Run. The Hoffman family started farming five generations ago and it has been in the family since 1905. The creamery began in 2004 and owner Carmella Hoffman and her team produce artisan cheese using only their own milk. Sunset View features cheddars, Monterey Jack, cheese curds, mozzarella, Bel Paese, Havarti, and Heritage (a parmesan and Swiss blend). Along with continuing to offer signposted self-guided tours and opening a sprawling new retail store for the 2018 season, Sunset View will again host the fun Finger Lakes Cheese Festival on July 28th, 2018 (see sidebar).

Shtayburne Farms near Rock Stream is less than 15 miles away to the northwest, near the western shore of Seneca Lake. Lorin and Alicia Hostetler and family own and operate the farm and it’s been in the family for four generations. They added a creamery and farm store in 2010. All of their cheeses (15 different blends) are made with fresh pasteurized milk and include varied cheddars and Monterey Jacks. Their flavored cheese curds are also particularly popular. The sprawling farm features rolling pastures, a working dairy farm, 60-plus milk cows, a cheese processing facility, and an old-fashioned country store selling their cheese and much more.

THE FINGER LAKES CHEESE FESTIVAL Taking place Saturday, July 28th, this year, the Finger Lakes Cheese Festival (flxcheese.com) at Sunset View Creamery is a popular annual event for both locals and lucky visitors. Organized by the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance, the fun festival features sampling and selling from Alliance members, a “midway” and petting zoo, various seminars and classes, a DJ and live music, cheese making demonstrations, farm tours, hayrides, and more.

Situated just north of Shtayburne Farms less than five minutes up New York 14, Glenora Wine Cellars provides a perfect example of Finger Lakes wine experiences that are available throughout the region while on the trail for Finger Lakes cheese. Featuring a winery, restaurant, and inn overlooking sparkling Seneca Lake in the near distance, the winery features varied tastings (they make a lot of unique wines), cellar tours, and sales of wine, cheeses, and more. Locally-focused and super-creative Veraisons restaurant is highly recommended for both lunch and dinner. Along with dozens of world-class wineries, the entire Finger Lakes region features many similarly creative restaurants that highlight local products, including cheese and wine.

ON THE TRAIL TO FINGER LAKES WINE Often pairing perfectly with Finger Lakes cheese and other foods, Finger Lakes wine is equally interesting. Five distinct wine trails make it easy to explore some of the country’s most unique wines. From the east to the west in the Finger Lakes region, the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and the Keuka Lake Wine Trail each take winery visitors and wine tasters around the lakes that give them their respective names. Further west, the Canandaigua Wine Trail takes visitors from northeast of the city of Canandaigua down the west side of Canandaigua Lake to just south of the town of Naples. To the north, the Lake Ontario

Wine Trail up near Lake Ontario provides yet another option in the Finger Lakes. One great way to combine Finger Lakes wine and cheese is at the Seneca Lake area’s Spring Wine & Cheese Weekend, which is co-sponsored by Seneca Lake Wine (senecalakewine.com) and the Cabot Creamery Cooperative (cabotcheese.com/coop). The popular weekend features a selfguided tour around Seneca Lake, with the possibility of visiting about 30 participating wineries, where award-winning wines and paired cheese-themed dishes await. Several unique packages (see senecalakewine.com) featuring tastings and much more are also available.

The next stop on this Finger Lakes cheese trail is Parulski Farms (northeast of Bath), which is about 25 miles or so from Glenora Wine Cellars, south of Keuka Lake. Here, visitors will find six cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, five flavors of cheese curds, and their two-year-old aged cheddar. They also sell meats from animals they raise on their farm, as well as other local products, like maple syrup, honey, jams, and more. Farm tours offered by friendly co-owners Rick Parulski and Meghan Delio are very popular here for good reason. Hemlock Ridge Farm near Avoca (and just 10 or so miles from Parulski Farms) is next. Situated on a windy hilltop south of Keuka Lake and certified organic since 2006, owners and operators Kelvin and Jessie Slayton raise calico cows on green pastures from May to October. Their love of the land, crops, animals, and their growing family all contribute to a variety of delicious cheddar cheeses and more in their small farm store.

The final (or first) stop on the drive, East Hill Creamery near Perry, is about 50 miles from Hemlock Ridge – but it’s worth the trip. East Hill is owned by Gary and Betty Burley, who has been dairying in the area since 1981. They started with 18 cows and now have more than 1,000. They’ve been making unique raw milk, grass-fed, cave-aged, alpinestyle cheeses since just 2016.

Along with heading to Alliance members that welcome visitors, their cheeses can also often be found in grocery stores, winery shops, and elsewhere throughout the Finger Lakes. That’s also true of the two Alliance production only farms and producers that don’t typically allow visitors or sell cheese at their facilities. Of course, there are several other farms producing cheese that aren’t members of the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance (at least not yet). Along with cheese and wine touring (see “On the Trail

to Finger Lakes Wine”), the Finger Lakes region offers a wide range of other activities. The possibilities include quaint towns and villages, varied attractions, culture, museums and historical sites, boat cruises and other lake-focused pursuits, other outdoors options (from hiking to biking and more), NASCAR racing and more at Watkins Glen International, varied restaurants, breweries, cideries, distilleries, and world-class wineries, other farms and markets, and lots of other shopping. ¾

Whether you spend life on the road for pleasure or work, it's nice to have the comforts of home as you travel the highways and byways. TrailBlazer checks in with folks who spend a fair amount of time on the road to see just what makes their home away from home. This month, we chatted with telecommuting attorney,

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

29

Plenty of lawyers, like many

white-collar workers these days, telecommute. Few do so regularly from an Airstream camper deep in the woods. Yet that’s just what veteran Orlando corporate attorney Jack McMullen has done for the past year. Nostalgic for days as a kid spent camping with his family and mindful that his 30-year legal practice has never required him to set foot in court, he and his wife several years ago began wondering if they couldn’t expand the notion of telecommuting. That his firm, GrayRobinson, has a progressive attitude toward working outside the office helped convince him and his wife to spring for an iconic 28-foot Airstream camper. Twice a month since, the couple has taken four-day trips in the camper, exploring campsites around the Southeast. Software on his laptop and a cellular hotspot that provides internet service allow him to access all files he’d have at his fingertips back in his traditional office in downtown Orlando. Phone calls to his work number are automatically forwarded to his cell. Solar panels atop the camper provide power when farther afield. “If colleagues pop into my office and I’m not there, they know I’m in my Airstream,” he says. “All they have to do is call me or email me.” Clients, too, have encouraged his pastoral form of extreme telecommuting. “They know I’m just as available to help them any time, no matter where I am,” he says. The couple’s three grown daughters also know mom and dad are easy to reach any time. Meanwhile, Jack hopes to begin extending his telecommute by venturing farther west and north to some of America’s more famous national parks. Of course, he admits some coworkers question his brand of telecommuting. “They ask how they can do it, too,” he says with a laugh.

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

Tell us about your telecommuting while still an active Orlando-area attorney. JM: I am a corporate, securities, and mergers and acquisitions lawyer, and virtually all of my work is conducted from within our firm’s offices. After almost 30 years of practice, I was looking to try something new to put a little more excitement and fun into my work and began to explore the idea of telecommuting part-time from state and national parks. As long as I have a good cell signal with which I can generate a Wi-Fi network for my phone and computer, I really can do my work anywhere. We’ve always loved the look and feel of Airstream travel trailers, as well as the tight-knit community of Airstream owners, so we began to investigate purchasing one a few years ago. Finally, we bit the bullet during the summer of 2016. Since then, we’ve been spending about 10 days a month traveling…and working as needed. I find working from the middle of the woods or at the beach to be very peaceful, and you sure can’t beat the view. All of my clients know and approve of my new work environment, and I am still able to provide them the same level of service as I would have sitting at my desk overlooking Lake Eola in downtown Orlando.

We understand your law firm (GrayRobinson) CEO and president, Mayanne Downs, has been very supportive. JM: Yes, Mayanne and Biff Marshall (our former CEO) have both been very supportive of my endeavors. Without their cooperation and the support of

I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and we’ve named the trailer “Rosalita” as a tribute to one of his most popular songs.”

my other partners and clients, this lifestyle would not be possible. That is one of the great things about GrayRobinson. The firm has a very flexible and entrepreneurial spirit that allows its attorneys to forge their own career path in any manner that suits them and that still provides prompt and excellent service to our clients.

has a ball everywhere we go. This lifestyle allows us to spend a lot more time together, and we get to see some very beautiful sights along the way. Another benefit to camping as much as we do is that we get to meet so many adventurous, nice and down-toearth campground neighbors everywhere we go.

Your wife travels with you, right?

Please give us any specs or history you have for your Airstream. Does it have a name? You installed solar panels, right?

JM: Yes, my wife Patti and our two-year-old boxer Lucy both travel with me. Patti is an interior designer and also works from the Airstream when needed for her client consultations and certain drafting projects. While Patti had never camped before and was a bit leery of this lifestyle, she has easily adapted to it and grown to love it. Needless to say, Lucy

JM: Our Airstream is an Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB. “Flying Cloud” is the model of the interior, and “27FB” means that it is 27 feet long and – with our floorplan – the bedroom is placed at the front of the camper. This allows the living space and dinette to be

placed at the rear of the trailer, which is beneficial since most of the beautiful scenery is usually behind you when camping. The Airstream can sleep six people if needed (two better be pretty short!), has two air conditioners, two 30-pound propane tanks, a solar and inverter package, and fresh, gray, and black water tanks of 39, 37 and 39 gallons each. These specs would allow us to dry camp (or “boondock”) with no hookups for about a week at a time. The Airstream also has two TVs, a great four-speaker stereo, and many other entertainment options via “streaming” through two Amazon Fire TV sticks. While we have no great interest at this time, it is also wired to attach cable television or a satellite receiver if you desire.

I find working from the middle of the woods or at the beach to be very peaceful, and you sure can’t beat the view.”

I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and we’ve named the trailer “Rosalita” as a tribute to one of his most popular songs.

What’s your favorite thing about traveling in your Airstream versus staying in a hotel? JM: Is “everything” a valid answer? First and foremost, it allows us to keep all of our normal travel gear in one place with no need to pack (other than groceries) before each trip. Second, it allows us to live in nature while still having the luxuries of a queen-sized bed, bathroom, and full kitchen. We

32

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

love the fact that our Airstream has so many large windows and skylights that you really feel like you are outside in nature even when you are in the comfort of your tiny home. Third, other than the price of the trailer itself, it is a relatively inexpensive mode of travel. The price of our stays in the past have ranged from free (when boondocking), to about $24/night in Florida’s fantastic state parks, to $60-$125/night for a couple of the privately-owned parks we have visited on rare occasion. Finally, traveling in an Airstream allows us to take Lucy with us everywhere.

What are a few favorite things onboard? JM: My coffee maker is a favorite. There is nothing more relaxing than waking up to a fresh pot of coffee to drink outside in the quiet and natural surroundings we visit. We also travel with a BBQ grill, hammocks, and everything needed for a campfire each night. For work, my cell phone, MacBook Pro, Verizon hot spot, and WeBoost cellular signal booster are must-haves.

What are a few favorite destinations and why? JM: We really enjoy many of Florida’s state parks. Most have large campsites, with plentiful

▲ Entire Airstream

trees or other vegetation providing a little separation and privacy from our neighbors – and also have electric and water hookups. They are also usually relatively close to a city for us to explore, while also having many outdoor things to do, such as hiking and kayaking. We’ve also found a couple of county-owned parks that are real gems (Fort DeSoto in St. Petersburg and Trimble Park in Mount Dora). We are looking forward to visiting Stone Mountain in a couple of months to visit two of our three daughters who both live in Atlanta.

What are some favorite meals onboard or restaurants on the road? JM: While at the campground, we enjoy grilling out a wide variety of camp-style dishes… and Patti also makes a mean pot of chili. As a designer, Patti loves to decorate the campsite and picnic table with festive lights and decorations, so you really cannot beat the dining ambiance. We do usually venture into town a couple of times each trip, and we tend to gravitate to any restaurant with a deck or patio on any type of water that allows us to dine with Lucy.

Do you have any funny stories from the road you can share? JM: Well, in the RVing world, “funny stories” are usually stories of serious blunders or unfortunate mistakes that have become “funny” with the passage of time, and we are fortunate not to have any of those so far. However, since we are constantly towing a 7,600-pound portable house behind us, the chances for “funny stories” in the future are not remote. Nonetheless, we have made countless fantastic memories from living in and experiencing nature in ways that most people do not have the chance, time, or desire to do. JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

33

We have made countless fantastic memories from living in and experiencing nature in ways that most people do not have the chance, time, or desire to do.”

We hear you’re going to start venturing even further north and west to visit more national parks, right? JM: That is absolutely our goal. Under our current schedule, we take two five-day trips a month. This allows us to comfortably travel up to four or five hours away from home each trip, while allowing us three full days in our destination. The problem with having Central Florida as our home base is that we are located in the southeastern tip of the country, and it is tough to get very far during a five-day trip.

34

JULY 2018 TRAILBLAZER

In the next year or so, we plan to make a concerted effort to begin taking frequent one- or two-week trips to stretch our Airstreaming boundaries and explore more of the Southeast U.S. and thereafter journey on to discover all of our country’s great national parks, which are largely west of the Mississippi. Utah, Arizona and Wyoming will be our first targets.

What didn’t we ask you about life on the road that you’d like to share? JM: I also love photography and usually have a camera in my hand during all of our travels.

Since my job does not provide many opportunities for creative or artistic expression, taking and sharing my photos with others provides me an enjoyable and stress-relieving outlet. ¾

GOT A GOT A

TOOTH? RIDE?

Combine them both into one sweet road trip aimed at visiting some of the sweetest spots in America.

Angell & Phelps

(Daytona Beach, Florida)

Originally started way up north in Mackinac Island, Michigan, Angell & Phelps moved to the Florida location in the early 1940s and has become a favorite among tourists and locals alike. They even cater to the trends and traditions of the area creating molded chocolate race cars in a nod to the Daytona 500 and a molded chocolate foot imprint to entice the tourists that flock to Daytona’s sunny beaches. And, in addition to their traditional hand-made chocolates like cherry cordials and cashew honey bees, they offer some novelty chocolates including chocolate-covered bacon and chocolate-covered potato chips. The twenty-minute tours are offered six times daily Mondays through Saturdays at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm The best part is that each tour concludes with free samples! Anthony-Thomas Candy Company After immigrating to the United States from Greece in 1907, Anthony Zanetos started his life in the candy business as an apprentice to a candy maker in a local shop in Columbus, Ohio. But he had big dreams and in 1916 went into business for himself. He continued on his own but had another big dream – to go into business with his son, Thomas. When Thomas returned from service in World War II, the dream was realized. The pair began making candies and eventually expanded into ice-cream making as well. But by the early 1950s, they realized the demand for candy was higher so they decided to focus solely on candy and formed the AnthonyThomas Candy Company. Today it remains one of the largest family-owned

candy companies turning out 50,000 pounds of chocolates daily. Tour guides explain the process from candy creation to final packaging as visitors walk along a glass-encased, suspended catwalk that allows views of nine production lines at work. Open house tours are open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays (SeptemberMay) between the hours of 9am and 3pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (June through August) from 9am to 3pm. Admission is $2 for ages 19 and up and $1 for ages 3-18; children under 3 are free. Plus, your admission fee may be used towards a purchase in their 2,500 square foot retail shop! Boehms Candies and Chocolates (Issaquah, Washington) When Julius Boehm came to America in 1941, he had already accomplished much. In 1924, he was a member of the Austrian Olympic team, participating in the 400-meter relay at the games held in Paris. In 1936 he was selected to carry the Olympic torch for one kilometer en route to the Berlin games. He came to America in 1941 and settled in the Pacific Northwest and opened a candy kitchen with a friend. In 1956, he moved his shop to Issaquah where it remains today in the “Edelweiss Chalet.” The chalet was the first of its kind in the Northwest. Boehms offers everything from caramels, English toffee, nut clusters, and truffles to European specialties like marzipan and Mozart Kugeln, a small round candy made from marzipan and nougat originally created in Salzburg, Austria in 1890 and named after Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

If you’re just looking to simply purchase the delicious chocolates, the retail store is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9am to 6pm and on Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Self-guided tours, via the windows along the side of the factory, allow you to see the candy makers at work – rolling, dipping, and molding during production hours Monday through Friday, from 9am to 2pm. Guided tours allow you to hear a bit about the art of chocolate making and taste some samples as well. Another plus on the guided tours is a peek inside the High Alpine Chapel (provided no private event is being held) which is a replica of a 12th-century Alpine chapel that Julius commissioned as a shrine to mountain climbers. Guided tours require reservations.

Haven’s Candies

(Portland, Maine) Photo courtesy of VisitPortland.com

It was a love of the romantic kind, not the chocolate kind, that is the reason behind Haven’s Candies in Portland, Maine. In 1915, candymaker Herbert Haven left Boston and followed his sweetheart to Maine where after their courtship and marriage, the pair settled down and began their handcrafted candy business. The business was originally named the Candy Kitchen because the couple made the candy in their kitchen and sold it to customers from their own living room! Haven’s become a part of the community and a well-respected business, even doing their patriotic duty during World War II by shipping candy to American soldiers around the world. Hershey’s Chocolate World is where all the fun happens. Created in 1973 as a replacement for the chocolate factory tour, Chocolate World welcomes 1.4 million visitors annually. Attractions at Chocolate World include the Chocolate Tour, a free-of-charge, seated tour, that shows the chocolate making process from cocoa bean to finished product; the CreateYour-Own-Candy Bar experience where visitors select the ingredients and “assemble” a candy bar that is uniquely their own; and the Chocolate Tasting Group Experience where a chocolatier explains, and lets guests taste, different varieties from milk chocolate to dark chocolate. There are also several eateries, souvenir shops, and, of course, one of the largest candy stores you’ll ever experience.

Jelly Belly

(Fairfield, California and Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin)

In 1869, when 24-year old Herman Goelitz opened his candy business in Belleville, Illinois, Ulysses S. Grant, an Illinois resident, was the country’s president. But it was another US president with ties to Illinois that made one of Goelitz’ candies a household name. The Jelly Belly shot to fame thanks to our 40th president, Ronald Reagan. The story goes that when he began his campaign for the California governor’s office in the mid-1960s, Reagan decided to give up his pipe. He opted for jelly beans as his replacement for the pipe and he chose a new mini jelly bean, manufactured by Goelitz’s company, as his new “vice.” When Reagan took office in 1967, Goelitz’s company had a standing order to deliver jelly beans to California’s government offices each month. A decade or so later, Reagan had his eye on the White House and Goelitz had recently introduced his line of “gourmet jelly beans” and the “jelly belly” candies

were shipped complimentary to Governor Reagan as part of his standing order. Reagan liked them so much, he switched his order to be exclusively jelly belly. As he turned his aspirations to the White House, the press got a hold of his love for the Jelly Belly candy and the rest is history. Goelitz manufactured red, white, and blue Jelly Belly candies and shipped three and a half tons to D.C. just in time for the inauguration festivities. Flavors included Very Cherry for red, Coconut for white, and Blueberry (which eventually became one of the most popular flavors) for the blue. The popularity of the Jelly Belly took off and the company eventually renamed themselves, The Jelly Belly Candy Company. Through the years, they’ve created flavors based on the Harry Potter books and movies, worked with Cold Stone Creamery to create flavors that taste like ice cream, produced an organic line and even a spicy line based with tabasco sauce as an ingredient.

Factory tours are available at the locations in California and Wisconsin. At the Fairfield location, visitors can enroll in Jelly Belly University where they can earn a degree in Beanology® and go in-depth to learn all things Jelly Belly. There is also a basic, self-guided walking tour available. At the Wisconsin location, visitors can hop aboard the Jelly Belly Train, tour the warehouse, and watch videos that detail the production of this popular little candy bean. What do you get when you mix a $5 correspondence course on ice-cream making, an old gas station, some very creative recipes, and clever ice cream monikers? Ben & Jerry’s, of course! Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, who met in junior high, are the founders and big imaginations behind the Ben & Jerry’s very popular brand of ice cream. In the summer of 1978, they set up shop in an abandoned gas station in northern Vermont. With just one fivegallon ice-cream maker, Ben and Jerry cranked out batches of the now famous Chunky Monkey and Heath Bar Crunch – and the rest, as they say, is history. With catchy names like Cherry Garcia and innovative marketing tactics like the Cowmobile, which was a modified mobile home that crossed the country giving out free scoops of ice cream, it wasn’t long before Ben & Jerry’s was a household name. Factory tours in the Waterbury facility run about 30 minutes and showcase how the fabulous ice cream is made as well as the highlighting the company’s philosophy. Visitors can also walk through the Flavor Graveyard, where “dearly de-pinted flavors of year’s past” can be remembered. Turkey Hill

(Columbia, Pennsylvania)

From a small dairy farm that served the Lancaster County area since the Great Depression, to a full-on supermarket favorite, Turkey Hill has certainly grown over the years. With products that include frozen yogurt and iced tea in addition to their ice cream, they always maintain the concept of producing products that are affordable and tasty for everyone. Located in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, a visit to Turkey Hill is definitely worth the trip. Just the drive itself through the Susquehanna River Valley, with its serene landscape and quaint small towns, is as delicious as the ice cream that awaits you at the end of your journey.

The Turkey Hill Experience, as it is called, is both educational and great fun at the same time. There’s the Taste Lab and an “Ice Cream 101” quickie course to learn the basics about ice cream making as you make your own flavor. The Tea Discovery is an experience where visitors can learn all about tea and taste some samples of Turkey Hill’s iced tea varieties. You can also “milk” the mechanical cows, be the star of your own Turkey Hill “commercial,” and taste and sample Turkey Hill’s products to your heart’s content. Stagecoach Road Stagecoach Road leads wine enthusiasts from Santa Barbara into the center of Santa Barbara Wine Country and the Town of Solvang. As you travel along Stagecoach Road, look out for the Cold Spring Bridge and depending on how you choose your way

to Solvang, you’ll either see the bridge from a distance and all its technical glory, or, you will drive under the bridge for a different perspective.

Scene It in Santa Barbara Town of Solvang in the Santa Ynez Valley Walking through the town of Solvang is like venturing through a magical Christmas land that is sunny and warm all year round. The town is known for its Danish-style architecture and has become a popular spot for the many independent winemakers who have made the Santa Ynez Valley their chosen region to grow precious grapes for wine. Not planning on leaving Santa Barbara to wine taste? The Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail is a great option for wine tasting without leaving the city. There are too many winemakers to list here, but we can bet that a perusal around Solvang or a trip along the Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail is going to turn you on to a wine tasting adventure you weren’t expecting!

Miles of Sandy Beaches

1

Butterfly Beach Butterfly Beach is located in the nearby town of Montecito. While Butterfly Beach is a little bit smaller than some of the other sandy beaches in the area, it is one of the most famous. The easiest way to get here is to drive toward the ocean on Olive Mill Road, that turns into Channel Drive. Parking is mostly along the waterfront on Channel Drive. Then, walk along Butterfly Lane that leads to the widest part of the beach. On bike? There is a paved bike path from Santa Barbara Pier that leads to Butterfly Beach. At low tide, it’s possible to walk all the way to East Beach in Santa Barbara and at high tide, the sandy part of the beach is so thin and so high, that you’re practically sunbathing on the water’s edge! There’s nothing better than catching a California sunset from your blanket at Butterfly Beach.

Can’t Miss Events Woodies At the Beach Classic Car Show Love classic cars? Don’t miss the 18th Annual “Woodies at the Beach” annual classic Car show. This annual event draws classic car lovers from all over to the west lawn of Santa Barbara City College. Peruse the artistry and craftsmanship of the Woodie-style cars and bring a picnic to enjoy with your friends and family. The scenery for this event is beautiful as you look over the bluffs to the Pacific Ocean, just a half mile from the Santa Barbara Pier. For more information about this annual event visit

Craft & Art Fair in Santa Barbara One of the most famous and longest running events in Santa Barbara is the Craft & Art Fair where over 200 artists showcase their artwork every week from 10am until dusk on Sundays year-round, and additionally on Saturdays during holiday weekends. It was established in 1965 by local artists that were

3

inspired by the sidewalk art shows of Europe and the prestigious “Jardin del Arte” of Mexico City. This non-juried show is one of the longest running events of its kind and has been a sponsored event of the City Parks and Recreation Department since 1966. All of the artists that you meet are selling and showcasing their own artwork. This is a great place to pick up a souvenir, discover a new talented artist, and immerse yourself in the art and culture that Santa Barbara has to offer. For more information about the art fair, visit santabarbaraca.gov.

Tastes of Santa Barbara Brophy Brothers After you peruse the art of Santa Barbara’s fine artists, head over to Brophy Bros. This Santa Barbara restaurant staple is known for its super fresh seafood and gorgeous location on the pier. They serve up classic dishes like shrimp cocktail and oyster shooters in a casual but lively atmosphere. Brophy’s also has a happy hour Monday through Friday from 4-7pm, with plenty of options on the menu. For the best views at Brophy’s, sit at the bar that looks out to the harbor. For a pleasant and breezy meal with drinks, the upstairs deck is a prime spot for al fresco dining. Brophy’s is consistently listed as a “best place to eat” and is the kind of restaurant that yearns to become your tradition each time you visit Santa Barbara. To preview the menu and for more information about the Santa Barbara restaurant location, visit brophybros.com/welcomesantabarbara.

Cold Spring Tavern The Cold Spring Tavern is located off of Highway 154, which used to be a passageway for stagecoaches and was used by Native Americans as they passed through the area. With roaring fireplaces, giant antique mirrors, the Cold Spring Tavern hasn’t changed in style or architecture since it was first established in 1865. Cold Spring Tavern has been in operation continuously since 1941 when it was purchased by the motherdaughter team, Adelaide Ovington and her daughter, Audrey. Known for its rustic and homey atmosphere as well as a hush-hush attitude about celebrity guests, Cold Spring Tavern is a must-visit. The chef maintains the original menu and is also famous for its tri-tip sandwiches that are only sold on Sundays, the menu also consists of traditional favorites like buffalo burgers, venison sandwiches, and baby back ribs. The dining rooms of the tavern

all have an aura of the coziest log cabin you’ve ever experienced and there is live music on the weekends to enjoy. When you have a chance to eat and drink at Cold Spring Tavern, you’ll feel like you’re dining in a timewarp!

Stay at Rancho Oso RV Resort & Campground Looking for lodging near Santa Barbara? Savoy Cafe & Deli Kathy and Paul Shields opened the Savoy Cafe & Deli in downtown Santa Barbara together about 10 years ago. Along with their four sons who work alongside them in the kitchen, the Savoy Cafe & Deli has become well known in Santa Barbara for its epic salad bar, handcrafted desserts and bakery items, plus an array of gluten-free, vegan, and paleo options for the health-conscious Santa Barbara community. Other highlights of the menu include homemade quiches and plenty of delicious breakfast and sandwich options, all made with fresh, organic ingredients. A block down from the Cafe is the newest endeavor from the Shields family - Savoy Wines Santa Barbara. This wine shop is barely a year old and the label follows the tradition of innovative winemakers and soulful foodmakers of the area!

Who’s in the kitchen with

TrailBlazer? Recipes Courtesy of Rebecca Camire

I love this month’s watermelon soup as an appetizer on a hot summer day and provides a fresh new spin on how we eat this traditional summer fruit! The Mediterranean salad works great as a side, or main course. You can always add your favorite grilled protein like steak or chicken to the salad too for a main course! The curry chicken salad provides a fun new way to enjoy a BBQ classic, it tastes great on bread or on top of some mixed greens or spinach. However you choose to personalize the dishes this month, I hope you enjoy them with those you love!

MEDITERRANEAN VEGGIE SALAD Prep time: 15 minutes Total time: 15 minutes Serves: 8 Ingredients:

Directions:

1 large zucchini, chopped

Chop the veggies and place into a large mixing bowl.

2 roma tomatoes, diced 2 red bell peppers, chopped 1 large cucumber, chopped
