INTRODUCTION With more than 140 years of history, AECS-Catalonia has offered its members countless learning opportunities, both in a national level and by building its own path within the international work. And always being an example of how an NMO as small as ours, with the hard work and commitment that define us, is capable of organizing international events. In the very beginning of this term, some National Officers and active members from AECS-Catalonia came together to create our plans of action for the term and see what we wanted to achieve with our work in the association. And thus, Train Your Summer (TYS) was born. TYS is a place for everyone, where every single member of IFMSA is welcomed no matter which Standing Committee comes from, to get trained in their respective focus areas and spend an unforgettable week in the Catalan seaside. We believe that with the perfect combination of work, effort, passion and motivation we can make this event a one in a lifetime experience! Are you going to miss it?
Train Your Summer (TYS) is addressed to medical students’ members of IFMSA who are interested in learning, sharing knowledge and experience, and getting to know fellow students from around the world. We are looking for highly motivated participants, who are willing to interact and create a space for new ideas to grow. With this activity we intend to provide 4 full days of different workshops revolving a common theme event. Since we will be holding various workshops, we will divide this
6
main target group in various subgroups according to the subjects addressed in each one of them.
PRET (Professional and Research Exchange Training): Exchange officers and all exchange motivated members in improving our exchange world.
IPET (International Peer Education Training): Students interested in implementing or improving Peer Education projects or programmes in their NMO, and who are especially interested in healthy affective relationships.
TNT (Training New Trainers): Students interested in gaining skills in areas as leadership, soft skills, etc., who are willing to become trainers
TNHRT (Training New Human Rights Trainers) on mental health: students interested on Human Rights, public health and mental health, who want to learn more about them and to explore possible ways how to support and promote this minority rights from the local to the national and international level.
The main goal is to give local students the opportunity to assist to international workshops without the need of traveling too far, at the same time that we accommodate an IFMSA event that, we consider, will contribute to the goals of the federation. The activity will last a total of 6 days, having in mind that the first and last day would be for arriving and departing. The starting and ending dates are September the
1st and the 6th. We need you, Medical students members of IFMSA who are interested in learning, sharing knowledge and experience, and getting to know fellow students from around the world.

THE WORKSHOPS a. IPET on Healthy Affective Relationships: Do you want to learn about sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially about healthy relationships? And most importantly, do you want to acquire the skills to teach about it to adolescents and make a change? If so, this is your Workshop, you must attend an IPET and become and experienced trainer in Peer Education! The International Peer Education Training (IPET) is a training that targets medical students and it is focused on how to approach adolescents and youth, providing peer education methods, theatre education techniques and internationally recognized and standardized communication and public speaking skills. Furthermore, it aims to develop intercultural exchange and to build cooperation of medical students worldwide in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), especially in healthy affective relationships. The TYS IPET’s main objectives are the following:
To develop medical students’ skills in communication, public speaking, facilitation and group dynamics among others.
Developing intercultural exchange and cooperation of medical students worldwide in the field of peer education.
To explore values, attitudes and knowledge in the fields of reproductive health and youth programming emphasizing healthy affective relationships.
To provide a comprehensive training programme that ensures that the participants become trainers in peer education, skilled and confident in their abilities to train peer educators and serve as informed resources for their peers.
Empowerment of medical students to implement culturally sensitive peer education programs or improve existing ones, especially focused on reproductive health and rights and healthy affective relationships.

b. PRET: Make a change, go on exchange! Today we give you the opportunity you to follow IFMSA spirit, to go out of your comfort zone and to make a real change through exchanges. Are you ready? The Professional and Research Exchange Training (PRET) is an international meeting of the IFMSA, where exchange officers and exchange motivated students from all over the world can meet and participate in trainings, workshops and small working groups. In AECS, we have decided to organize our very first PRET in order to cover all levels of trainings for NOREs/NEOs, LOREs/LEOs, and all members interested in exchange. We want you to expand your knowledge, experience and skills on how to run SCOPE/SCORE for years to come. Through this workshop, you are willing to:
Advance participants’ skills and knowledge on how to run SCOPE/SCORE exchanges.
Allow both old and newly founded exchange chapters to share experience and information.
Empower exchange teams/individuals to advance the exchange teams in their NMO.
Provide a platform for collaboration between NMOs of the region.
We can ensure that this is going to be an amazing experience, and that you will learn a lot by sharing ideas and knowledge during the training. We are working hard in order to find the best trainers, who will help you to come out with great ideas and to develop your skills. Don’t miss this opportunity!

c. TMHT: One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders in some point in their lives. According to the World Health Organization, around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability in the world. There are solutions, and treatments are available. However, nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder are not following any kind of treatment, besides they don’t even ask for help from a health professional. So, why don’t ask for help? Stigma, discrimination… It is not only necessary changing the citizens’ minds, but also the health professionals. There is still long way to go, but at least the Training Mental Health Trainers (TMHT) workshop could be the start. Are you interested in Mental Health? If your answer is YES, the TMHT is made for you! The major aim of this workshop is to develop students’ skills on self-knowledge, on Mental Health
through
self-knowledge,
critical
thinking, community work and teambuilding among others. It will be performed using training and peer education methods during the sessions of the TMHT. For us, it is important to improve students’ knowledge on Human Rights and discuss about their implication regarding to Mental Health issues and also to explore possible ways on how to support and promote the rights of people with Mental Health issues, from the local level to the national and international level. By the end of this workshop you will be able to successfully present a project on Mental Health. During the workshop we will provide information and facilitate students’ advocacy work on Mental Health and related topics. Moreover, this TMHT wants to empower and develop the competence of medical students and future health professionals in designing and implementing projects focused on social inclusion, especially regarding to Mental Health conditions.

d. TNT: Do you want to challenge yourself? Do you want to learn how to give an interactive workshop? Do you want to develop and strengthen your own skills at instructing and supporting groups? Do you want to be a soft skills trainer? The Training New Trainers (TNT) is the perfect workshop for you! Main objectives of the TNT are: â—?
To develop basic skills in communication, facilitation and group dynamics, as well as in time management, leadership and motivation in order to train medical students to become trainers.
â—?
Increase the number on trainers in IFMSA and secondly the number of trainings and educational events in the different NMOs.
During the workshop, you will have multiple opportunities to work on your own skills with the trainers feedback and personal support. At the end of the workshop, you will be ready to deliver your first training and you will be an IFMSA Trainer upon successful participation. Be ready to meet inspiring personalities and be part of the international group trainers!

AGENDA

6. THEME EVENT Social determinants of Health & Equity “The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, including the health system. These circumstances are shaped by the distribution of money, power and resources at global, national and local levels, which are themselves influenced by policy choices. The social determinants of health are mostly responsible for health inequities - the unfair and avoidable differences in health status seen within and between countries.[...] 1 When it came the time to choose our theme event, we were looking for one that would interest all of TYS participants regardless of what workshop they attended. Challenged by that idea, we finally decided to hold our theme event on social determinants of health and equity. We believe this theme is transversal to all standing committees, and basic for the understanding and promotion of global health. Therefore, we are looking forwards to offering a complement to your workshop that will enrich your social view of global health and also help you grow personally. If you are interested in mental health, you must already know that men are twice as likely to commit suicide than women. If you want to become a peer educator and work in sexual education, you probably are aware that the STI distribution around the world is not even. If you are looking forward to being a trainer because education is your passion, one of your motivations may be that educational level influences various aspects of health such as long-term disability. If you are part of the exchange world, you have no need to be told that medical systems and access to health vary greatly from country to country. All these are only some examples of social determinants of health that you may relate to. We are preparing some activities and presentations with speakers with a lot of experience in this field of health, so you can make the most of your stay in TYS and enjoy a multidisciplinary formation that will make you better health workers.

VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION The accommodation for the TYS will be in Hosting hotel J.M Batista i Roca,a beautiful neoclassical house located in Masnou, a town 18 km away from Barcelona. Though the house is detached from the urban centre there's still easy access to the beach which is located only 10 minutes away from the venue. The house itself was built in the 1920s following the late explosion in modernistic architecture. Therefore it offers the possibility of enjoying nature as well as the comfort of a cosmopolitan structure. But the best part of it, without any doubt is that we'll have it exclusively for ourselves. Our choice was conditioned by the way we wanted to approach this TYS. We wanted to provide private and undisturbed method exchange sessions but also create a bounding between peers in a place surrounded by nature. The price includes all the meals, accommodation for the three nights (in 5,6,8 and 10 people rooms) and access to the following services: •
Living room with TV and DVD
•
Parking
•
Vending Machines
•
Coffee*
•
Free Wi-Fi
14 *The OC will provide everyone with as much coffee as they need :D
SOCIAL PROGRAM Brace yourself for enjoying the best Social Program you've ever lived. Catalonia offers many activities to do and many places to visit. The city itself could keep you occupied for weeks; let us give you a hand! We have organized excursions, trips to the beach and lots of fun so that you have a great time. About Catalonia.. Its geographic wealth and diversity make Catalonia a place to enjoy year-round. The Pyrenees, Costa Brava, Barcelona, Montserrat, Ebre Delta and the Plain of Lleida are some of the most emblematic areas, allowing all sorts of leisure, cultural, sports and gastronomic activities.
Enjoy the beautiful city of Barcelona; Barcelona is life, come and experience it, and fall in love with every little corner. Harmoniously integrating tradition and modernity, Barcelona combines the architectural evidence of its Roman and Medieval past with both Modernisme (Catalan Art Nouveau) –with Gaudí as the leading exponent of this architectural style– and gems of contemporary architecture such as the Torre Agbar.
Come to see it with your own eyes!
15
And when the night comes… Barcelona at its most multifaceted and intense unfurls at night, the time for theatre, drinks with friends, music and dancing. This is when the Catalan capital's most risqué, hiddenaway and discrete spots open up, where the day lengthens and the nightlife bursts out.
When the sun arises and you start feeling the sunshine in your skin… let’s go to the beach! Barcelona is a city that faces the sea, with almost five kilometres of beaches. All of them have facilities for bathers and lots of them have places for playing sports like table tennis and volleyball.
16
But, when Barcelona's city beaches are overcrowded and you just want to relax in the environs of gorgeous sand and sparkling, clean water, remember you don't have to travel far to plant your umbrella. Remember that the venue is situated on a green and sunny hill near the beach, in only 5 minutes you can feel de sand in your feet and the soft sea breeze on your face.
We have also prepared activities for mountain and nature lovers! Come to reconnect with nature near Barcelona.... Over a hundred thousand hectares of protected areas wait for you within close reach of the city of Barcelona.
Come, and discover that little marvelous treasure. We are waiting for you!
