1. WELCOME LETTER Barcelona, 18th August 2016 Dear participants, No written words can adequately express our deep, deep happiness to have the chance to welcome you to Catalonia for this training opportunity. You are about to embark upon an amazing one of a kind event, towards which we have striven these many months. This is a landmark event, as we will be celebrating the 1st Train Your Summer for the first time all around the globe. We do hope you will squeeze out this opportunity and be able to take all what you learn back to your countries. This is an excellent opportunity for you to meet with other medical students from all over the world, to share your experiences and points of view, and to create an opportunity for collaboration, networking and the building of trust relationships internationally. I have full confidence in our Organizing Committee and I am sure that it will be a complete success. I am looking forward to meeting you all in Catalonia in September at what promises to be an incredibly stimulating and enjoyable event. Yours faithfully,
Isshak Mrabet Deraoui General President AECS Catalonia

3. INTRODUCTION With more than 140 years of history, AECS-Catalonia has offered its members countless learning opportunities, both in a national level and by building its own path within the international work. We are proud to be an example of how an NMO as small as ours, with the hard work and commitment that define us, is capable of organizing international events. In the very beginning of this term, some National Officers and active members from AECS-Catalonia came together to create our plans of action for the term and see what we wanted to achieve with our work in the association. And thus, Train Your Summer (TYS) was born. TYS is a place for everyone, where every single member of IFMSA is welcomed no matter which Standing Committee comes from, to get trained in their respective focus areas and spend an unforgettable week in the Catalan seaside. We believe that with the perfect combination of work, effort, passion and motivation we can make this event a one in a lifetime experience! Are you going to miss it?
Train Your Summer (TYS) is addressed to medical students’ members of IFMSA who are interested in learning, sharing knowledge and experience, and getting to know fellow students from around the world. We are looking for highly motivated participants, who are willing to interact and create a space for new ideas to grow. With this activity we intend to provide 4 full days of different workshops revolving a common theme event. Since we will be holding various workshops, we will divide this main target group in various subgroups according to the subjects addressed in each one of them.
5
PRET (Professional and Research Exchange Training): Exchange officers and all exchange motivated members in improving our exchange world.
IPET (International Peer Education Training): Students interested in implementing or improving Peer Education projects or programmes in their NMO, and who are especially interested in healthy affective relationships.
TNT (Training New Trainers): Students interested in gaining skills in areas as leadership, soft skills, etc., who are willing to become trainers
TNHRT (Training New Human Rights Trainers) on mental health: students interested on Human Rights, public health and mental health, who want to learn more about them and to explore possible ways how to support and promote this minority rights from the local to the national and international level.
The main goal is to give local students the opportunity to assist to international workshops without the need of traveling too far, at the same time that we accommodate an IFMSA event that, we consider, will contribute to the goals of the federation. The activity will last a total of 6 days, having in mind that the first and last day would be for arriving and departing. The starting and ending dates are September the
1st and the 6th. We need you, Medical students members of IFMSA who are interested in learning, sharing knowledge and experience, and getting to know fellow students from around the world.

4. VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION The accommodation for the TYS will be in Hosting hostel J.M Batista i Roca, a beautiful neoclassical house located in Masnou, a town 18 km away from Barcelona. Though the house is detached from the urban centre there's still easy access to the beach which is located only 10 minutes away from the venue. The house itself was built in the 1920s following the late explosion in modernistic architecture. Therefore it offers the possibility of enjoying nature as well as the comfort of a cosmopolitan structure. But the best part of it, without any doubt is that we'll have it exclusively for ourselves. Our choice was conditioned by the way we wanted to approach this TYS. We wanted to provide private and undisturbed method exchange sessions but also create a bounding between peers in a place surrounded by nature. The price includes all the meals, accommodation for the five nights (in 5,6,8 and 10 people rooms) and access to the following services: •
Living room with TV and DVD
•
Parking
•
Vending Machines
•
Coffee*
•
Free Wi-Fi
*The OC will provide everyone with as much coffee as they need :D

6. THEME EVENT “Social determinants of Health & Equity” “The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, including the health system. These circumstances are shaped by the distribution of money, power and resources at global, national and local levels, which are themselves influenced by policy choices. The social determinants of health are mostly responsible for health inequities - the unfair and avoidable differences in health status seen within and between countries.[...]” 1
Joan Tallada Martinez: Consultant, analyst and professor of economics and health policy. He has over 20 years of experience in management, monitoring and evaluation of global health projects. He coordinates and evaluates interventions in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. He is particularly interested in the changes within the paradigm of international cooperation and how they affect the architecture of global health issues. He holds a degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Barcelona and a Master in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics from the University Pompeu Fabra. As a Senior Advisor for the Department of Education, he is responsible for the development of new courses, monitoring and for giving support to students and coordinating the thematic seminars of the Master on Global Health, among other tasks. If you are interested in mental health, you must already know that men are twice as likely to commit suicide than women. If you want to become a peer educator and work in sexual education, you probably are aware that the STI distribution around the world is not even. If you are looking forward to being a trainer because education is your passion, one of your motivations may be that educational level influences various aspects of health such as long-term disability. If you are part of the exchange world, you have no need to be told that medical systems and access to health vary greatly from country to country. We believe this theme is transversal to all standing committees, and basic for the understanding and promotion of global health. 1

8. TRANSPORTATION There are a few public transportation options for you to get to the venue, the one below is what we think is the best one.
BY TRAIN Line R2: Aeroport Barcelona-Clot-Aragó (change to Line R1) Ocata The half-hourly Renfe rail service departs between 6:15 am and 11:15 pm from the Aeroport train station, in front of the Terminal 2. Price: 4,10€/ticket. We highly recommend you to buy a T10 (2 zones), which will allow you to move around Barcelona and go and come back to the house whenever you want, it’s cheaper 0. Please note that passengers arriving at Terminal 1 should take a free shuttle to get to Terminal 2, where the train station is located. 1. Take line R2 (green on this map) and get off at Barcelona Clot-Aragó station. 2. Once there, you have to move to the other platform where you can take line R1 heading either to Mataró or Maçanet-Massanes (blue on this map). 3. Get off at the Ocata station. 4. You will find Dr. Josep Agell Street on your right when you leave the Ocata Station. Walk straight up that street. 5. 13
From the Airport to the city centre (Plaça Catalunya) If changing lines at unknown train stations is too complex, you can get to Plaça Catalunya first and take the train to Ocata there. You can buy your ticket from the staff at the bus stops (cash only payments), at the automatic sales machines (payment by credit card) or by paying the bus driver (cash only payments). More information on fares, lines and timetables at: www.aerobusbcn.com Line R1 : Barcelona-Plaça Catalunya Ocata Single tickets cost 2,50€ (2 zones); but, again, we highly recommend you to get a T10 ticket for 2 zones, which costs 20,30€. The famous Barceloneta Beach is 15 minutes away by metro, and the hostel is perched just a short walk from the city's most buzzing bars and restaurants. The staff there are also a highlight, most of them speak more than one language and are always willing to go the extra mile if you find yourself in a moment of need.

The quantity and quality of modernist buildings you can find in this street is unrivalled not only in Barcelona but in any city of the world. Passeig de Gràcia was designed from the beginning to be Barcelona's Grand Avenue, and is also home to Gaudí's most accomplished work and one of Modernism's best examples, La Pedrera (or Casa Milà). Today Passeig de Gràcia is an eminently commercial avenue, in the style of the great European boulevards. There is no better way to get to know the essence of Barcelona than to take a relaxing stroll along Passeig de Gràcia.
