Welcome to D-Camps!

The Canadian Diabetes Association has offered camp experiences since 1953. Our network of D-Camps provide opportunities to enjoy an authentic camp experience to children living with type 1 diabetes while having all of their diabetes needs monitored by a dedicated team of trained medical professionals. Across the country, all D-Camps are dedicated to a common goal: “Inspiring independence together.” For campers, that means learning to self-manage their disease and becoming more self-reliant in their overall growth and development. While at camp, children learn about diabetes management in an enriching, well-managed and fun environment. In fact, many of our camp alumni recall that

camp was the first time they administered their own insulin – a milestone in the life of a child living with diabetes. “Together” reflects the sense of belonging and community that’s central to the camp experience for campers as well as their families. That community also extends to the health professionals and donors who are integral to our success. From Newfoundland to BC, every camp has a vital role to play in strengthening awareness of the D-Camp experience. This is your official D-Camp Identity Field Guide. It’s packed with orienteering tips for managing our camp identity system. Happy reading!

Whooo should use this field guide?

If you are responsible for any kind of communications to do with D-Camps – whether you’re a counselor or a director – this Identity Field Guide is for you. It gives you all the basics of how to work with our identity system from graphics to colours and type. The system is designed to ensure that every camp has a strong, unique identity of its own but one that reflects common features with all D-Camps. We want our campers, their families, as well as healthcare professionals and donors to know that all CDA camps, wherever they are, offer the same qualities of a well-managed, fun and enriching experience.

Where to use the D-Camp identity?

CANADIAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION

5 | D-Camps Logo Guidelines | Version 1.0 | Spring 2012

The D-Camps logo represents the national network of diabetes camps. The letter “D” (diabetes) is the main background graphic that contains the letter “C” (camps) and all of the icons for each camp. The relationship of the words to the “D” and “C” are all carefully positioned to create a balanced design that’s both recognizable and memorable. It is important to use the official versions in order to consistently reinforce the D-Camps identity. There are two configurations that can be used depending on space and other design considerations. The primary version is the more compact (square) of the two. The alternate version can be used where the logo needs to fit into a smaller, more horizontal space.

The D-Camps Logo Simplified Option

The design solution for D-Camps has been developed to be able to be used in a variety of situations, including applications such as stencils on signs or even carved out of wood. In informal applications that would primarily be seen at an actual camp, the endorsement “Canadian Diabetes Association can be dropped where it might be difficult to reproduce.

The D-Camps Logo Typography

While the official font for the Canadian Diabetes Association is Bliss 2, the camps are free to work with the two fonts that are used in the logos. These are suitable for text headings, signage or other high profile applications that will ensure a visual and typographic cohesion between the logos and other camp related materials. Bliss 2 should continue to be used for body text.

Identifying individual camps

The Individual Camp Logos

Each camp in the national network has its own logo. The logo uses three elements: the letter “D” outline from the D-Camps logo, specific typography for the camp name, a particular Canadian wildlife illustration and a unique colour.

In most situations, the camp logo with the CDA endorsement line will be sufficient to identify the Canadian Diabetes Association if the CDA logo is visible elsewhere on a page or screen. (See the brochure cover on the next page as an example.) If there are occasions when both the camp and the CDA logo require equal prominence, side by side, use this relationship which uses the horizontal configuration of the individual camp logo.
