"Prez Sez" HOT! HOT! HOT! It's summertime and as anyone who drives a Healey any distance can attest, not only the weather, but the car can get a trifle mild, especially this year. Having just returned from the west coast, I can confirm that both these statements are true. I hope by now that you have been able to get out in your Healey and share in some of this heat; I hate to be hogging it all! Still lots of great events to take in this summer. (And soon to be fall.) Check on the website for an event near you for a day, a weekend or even longer, and give it a try. I'm sure you will have fun and your Healey will enjoy it too. This past Sunday, along with several hundred others, I attended a "Celebration of Life" for Rich Chrysler. A genuine outpouring of affection by colleagues, family and friends to one of our own. You will be missed Rich, and as you so often said...

View From the Navigator's Seat The recent loss of our Charter member Rich Chrysler, a 'true' Healey guy in every sense of the word, reminds us all of how very precious our time on earth is. Rich was 'one of a kind' and one of his outstanding traits was to do things (especially Healey things) the 'right' way. Example: Rich was involved with the restoration of one of our members concours car - so mindful of the ever-rising costs involved the owner asked Rich if there was any way to cut corners so to speak - Rich thought for a moment and then said "Well, which part do you not want right". The car of course, went on to win "Gold" at Concours! Happy Healeying!

DESTINATION LOUISVILLE JUNE 17-22, 2012 Arrival at Conclave was Saturday this year. This provided an additional day that we were able to spend at Churchill Downs - home of the Kentucky Derby. Seated in Millionaires Row it was easy to envision the excitement of Derby Day. Mint Juleps and $2. bets made the day even more interesting. Oh yes a bet on the third horse in the third race proved to be a winner. The 5th race was dedicated to the memory of Donald Healey. Monday was Gymkana, held at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, where Bob and Tom spent a few hours, Tom enjoying racing his Healey. Concourse Judging was also Monday morning. Free time to shop and have supper out. Tuesday was Healey's on the Waterfront. It was a wonderful venue to display all the classes of Healey's. Pinewood Derby was set up with lots of partipation. Very hot day so the ice cream truck was a favourite spot. The winner of Best in Show was "Grace" the "Drive Away Cancer" car. Later in the afternoon was the Ladies Tea, special treats and a wonderful one woman presentation of the life of entertainer Rosemary Clooney. Wednesday was a tour day; lots of tours of the area were available. We spent the morning and early afternoon at the Corvette Museum and manufacturing plant. Supper was a tour into Indiana to Huber's Party Barn. Awards were presented after a really great dinner. Thursday our last full day ... With a Rallye tour of the area around Louisville, lots of pretty roads and side areas as well as a stop at the 502 Club that also provided repairs for Healey's during the week. The banquet Thurs night was a celebration of a wonderful week of Healey's, fun, tours, adventures, great food and a beautiful city. A special thanks to Ben Moore and his planning crew they did an amazing job. The special guest for the week was "Grace" and her driver John Nikas, and old car with a huge heart that has made many a child fighting cancer smile! John had many stories of the children and their families who enjoyed a ride in an old car, it took away their pain and hurt for a short time and put a smile on their faces. THE ROAD TO RENDEZ VOUS On June 08 Levina and I set off in our BJ8 from Monkton and headed for Kansas City. We spent a couple of nights there as guests of the Wirkins' before heading south & west again for Belen NM where we were hosted by Bill & Joyce Sullivan. After spending time in and around Albuquerque and Santa Fe we were joined by Bill in his BJ8 and headed for the California Coast. We followed the old Route 66 wherever practical and passed through places with names such as Gallup, Flagstaff, Kingman, Barstow and Bakersfield, finally hitting the Coast around Moro Bay, just north of L.A. Part of this route took us across the Mojave Desert where temperatures reached 110degF but by the time we reached the coast the temps had moderated to a comfortable 75degF. The plan was to drive north on US1 and 101 all the way through California, Oregon and Washington, before taking the ferry from Port Angeles across to Victoria on Vancouver Island. Setting off from Moro Bay we went through Carmel, Monterey and Santa Cruz before hitting San Francisco and crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, stopping in Bodega Bay, where the movie Birds was filmed, to join with Joyce Sullivan who had flown out from Belen. We then kept following the Pacific Coast Highway as it headed north, hugging the coast all the way. We found that although there were spectacular views at almost every turn, the Oregon coast was the most scenic. Arriving in Victoria we spent three days with friends before heading to Parksville about mid Island for the Rendezvous Healey event, organized by the Healey Club of BC. Here we met up with the Wilfords, Thomases and Bagheri's who had travelled from Ontario via the northern states. We were made very welcome by the host club and other participants and the usual round of fun and driving events were enjoyed by everyone. Leaving Parksville, the four couples said goodby to the Sullivans and headed north to Port Hardy, where we caught the ferry for a fifteen hour cruise along the inside passage. The weather was overcast, but still didn't detract from some beautiful and dramatic scenery. Arriving in Prince Rupert we found a busy fishing and container port, but otherwise quite depressed. Some rugged driving followed to Prince George and on to Jasper and Banff where we spent a couple of days. Now we headed east along the Trans Canada Hwy, passing through Calgary, Medicine Hat, Regina, Winnipeg where we were entertained for the day by the Manitoba Healey Club, Kenora, Thunder Bay and the Soo. It was here that we said goodby to the rest of the group and visited with a friend, before heading home through Michigan. We arrived back in Monkton on July 12 after covering about 10,000 miles of enjoyable Healey motoring. Levina and I agreed that we would do this again in an instant, as we had a really great trip. The car performed perfectly, except for a minor fuel pump malfunction which was easily fixed, and the driver and navigator are still married. Submitted by Bob Yule

CAR FOR SALE 1962 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK ll TRI-CARB This is a complete 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MK II Tri-Carb with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. I drove the car into my garage over 15 years ago and put it up on axel stands. Since then, I removed the floors and unscrewed the 2 wings/fenders on the passenger side to see the state of the shrouds and inner body. I also removed the GM wheels and converted the hubs back to knock-offs and installed wire wheels. That is all. The car requires a complete frame-off restoration. * Factory hardtop included * All for wings/fenders are fiberglass (as a result there is much less corrosion on the aluminum shrouds). The rear wing on the passenger side has some damage. * Original soft roof & frame included * Seat frames & transmission tunnel included * This has the later short, straight gear shift shaft style transmission. Extra parts include: bolt-on hubs, extra starting motor, four steel front wings/fenders partially repaired, two sills, chrome fender beads, six wire wheels ++ This is a complete Tri-carb in need of a restoration I cannot provide.
