Refugee Update Thank you so much for your generous response of £5,740* to our recent refugee crisis appeal. Your support is being put to great use, thanks to the tireless efforts of our partners, primarily in Serbia and Macedonia, working in very challenging conditions.

Dragan Manev recently sent us this update on the efforts to provide vital needs for thousands of displaced people pouring through Southern Macedonia: “3,000 refugees are passing through each day, sometimes up to 7,000. Many are very ill. We are packing food supplies for them and collecting second-hand clothing. We are praying for them and sharing Christian literature with them. Also where there is opportunity we’re testifying to them about Jesus.” Pastor Dragan’s team is working alongside many other evangelical churches packing and distributing food packages which include sardines, peanuts, bread, dates and water. Please pray for Pastor Dragan’s church and other local churches in this area at this challenging time as they seek to bring Christ’s compassion and hope to these refugees.

Harvest and Essential Gifts Response On behalf of TEN, our partners and those they are working with, thank you for such a brilliant response to our Harvest 2015 Appeal! We have raised an amazing £25,476*.

Harvest funds are passed to our partners for food parcels to provide for families who have very little and sometimes have to choose between food and heat; receiving a TEN food parcel can often make the difference between getting through extremely cold winters or not, and opens up a door for the local church to share God’s love in a practical way. Slavko Hadzic sums it up: “My rough estimation is that with [the] money which you [sent] we will be able to buy and pack 190 food parcels, which means that next year we can have 15 families in our humanitarian project, help them monthly, evangelize them, pray for them and hopefully see some of them saved.” Orders from TEN’s Essential Gifts catalogue are also progressing well with £6,260 raised*. Thank you for your continued support and generosity! * Financial records as of November 2015

Welcome

H

appy New Year from all of us at TEN. Our prayer for you all, for 2016, is that you receive God’s richest blessings, experience his overwhelming love and grace, and that you prosper in this New Year. Thank you so much for your faithful support last year; your commitment has been such an encouragement to us and also to our amazing partners across Europe. Together, we praise God for His faithfulness, provisions and blessings throughout 2015 and look forward with anticipation, excitement and expectation to what He has in store for this year. When God takes us on a journey it is always full of surprises and excitement. Let’s trust him for this New Year. In 2016 we will be intentional in helping build transformational Kingdom Communities across Europe. Key to this will be church planting and evangelism as the vehicle for social action. We will be talking more about this in the coming editions. Europe has experienced a number of crises during 2015, some of these and others will be with us during 2016. As we pray for our continent and all its challenges, let us remember the words of the Psalmist: ‘I look toward the hills. From where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord the Creator of heaven and earth’ (Psalms 121). This is ‘a song of increasing degrees.’ It has several steps in advance of its predecessor. It tells of the peace of God’s house and the guardian care of the Lord our God and Father. Also, Jer. 29 v 11 clearly states God has plans for you, plans for your good. So, let us step into this New Year with faith and expectancy, with the knowledge of His promise to give you a hope and a future. As we do this let’s keep the peoples of Europe, and our wonderful partners on the frontline, at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers. Help us help them to excel in all they do. May God richly bless you all in 2016.

First in a series of articles on TEN’s priorities for building kingdom communities

Church Planting in

Macedonia In the midst of serious illness, Blagoj promised God that if he was healed he would make his building available to be used for a church to gather right on his door step in Veles, a city of 60,000, 40 minutes drive south of Skopje in Macedonia.

N

ot long after crying out to God, Blagoj met TEN partner Dragan Manev, who was looking for a building located in the best possible place in town that would attract new people for them to reach out to. Little did Blagoj realise when he agreed to rent his building to Dragan’s church that he would experience a series of miracles in his family. Not only was Blagoj completely healed but his wife was also delivered from depression. Now his family testifies to everyone in their community how they know God’s joy in their life. Dragan says the church now has the opportunity to purchase this building, which would enable them to see many more lives transformed: “Please pray for us to buy this building for our church, because almost all money from our offerings is going for the rent of the church building. If that building is ours 4

we will have finance for evangelism and helping the people in need. The owner of the house will be very happy to sell his house to us.” Dragan’s church-planting ministry is having a significant impact into the Roma communities. To overcome the sometimes challenging barriers into these hard-toreach people group Dragan provides practical help to the Roma families including providing clothing and after schools’ clubs. They teach the children to read and learn about God at the same time by using Christian literature. Puppet ministry teams enable them to creatively communicate the Gospel message, thanks to the help of a puppet team from the UK who TEN sent on a mission trip to Macedonia last year. Dragan’s vision is to expand their outreach into the Roma communities: “We have planted the first Evangelical Roma Church in our town Veles. Our vision is to start two more. Recently four Roma

women accepted the Lord Jesus as their Saviour.” Dragan says the seeds were planted in his life to go into ministry nearly 15 years ago: “Somebody invested in me. Even when I was a young believer I was part of the evangelism team for planting new churches in Macedonia. Our team was combined of believers of Evangelical churches from a few nearby towns.” Evangelical believers only make up 1% of the population in Macedonia, so in 2009 after completing 2½ years of theology training and being official ordained, Dragan became the first ever Evangelical pastor in his home town of Veles, where he lives with his wife and two young children. “Along with my wife Biljana we started to lead and disciple the Macedonian people in this new church. We are so excited about this mission and we are working two days a week for planting new churches in the eastern part of Macedonia.” Pastor Dragan concluded by saying that one of the most vital aspects of their ministry is mobilizing future leaders: “After planting new churches we are working on discipleship and investing time in new leaders who will continue the work of God.”

Little did Blagoj realize when he agreed to rent his building to Dragan’s church that he would experience a series of miracles in his family.

Top to bottom: Dragan and Biljana outside church; Puppet Ministry; Dragan selfie at children’s work.

Please pray for this vital kingdom-building ministry. Also, if you can help Dragan buy their church building in Veles please contact the TEN office:

After 50 years ten is still responding

– will you help? – 50 years ago Christians in the UK heard about the plight of believers and their neighbours in Europe. They decided to do something about it and since then the organisation, now known as Transform Europe Now (TEN), has responded to many crises across Europe through the support of those who desire to see lives transformed.

– £50 for 50 years – The current crisis of refugees and human trafficking presents a huge opportunity for our partners in Europe to respond with the love of Christ. Stand with us to help transform lives by giving to our £50 For 50 Years appeal. This support will go to where it is most needed so our partners can reach out to those desparately in need of God’s love. If not £50 then please give what you can. Donations can be made at www.transformeuropenow.org/give or by using the form below. Thank you for your support.

I am a UK taxpayer and want Eurovangelism to reclaim tax on all my donations in the past four years and until further notice, meaning an extra 25p for the charity for every £1 I give. I understand that I must pay UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that will be claimed by all my donations to charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs in each tax period. I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. I will advise Transform Europe Now if I become a non-taxpayer. I will also advise Transform Europe Now if I change my address.

Team Updates

Team updates Last year was certainly a year of change at the Bristol office…but praise God, we are almost back up to a full complement of staff. With great pleasure we are able to announce two new team members:

Ken Millwood

Peter WoodinG

Ken started on a temporary basis back in July while we were restructuring. In October he became our Operations Administrator and joined the permanent staff on 26th October. Ken made a great impression from his very first day, he has a servant heart and is keen to assist in all areas of TEN’s work. Ken spends some of his spare time leading the OAC Open Air Team preaching on the streets in Bristol and increasingly gets opportunities to lead services in some of the smaller churches in the Bristol area. Ken brings a great deal of administration expertise to TEN, previously working in the civil service in Bristol and a Christian ministry in Bath; his skills will help to facilitate the amazing work our partners do across Europe and keep us all on track in the office. He relaxes by watching films, reading and baking cakes. We have already been able to enjoy his excellent baking skills. Keep it coming Ken! To find out more about Ken, visit transformeuropenow.org/team/kenmillwood

We are equally delighted to announce Peter Wooding (known as Pete) as our new Communications Officer. Pete also started on the 26th October in this new post. We are already benefiting from his wealth of experience in communicating the message with features like ‘Throw-back Thursdays’ posting video clips on Facebook. Pete first got involved in overseas mission work when he joined YWAM in 1989. In 1997 he became news editor for UCB Radio. During his ten years there, he experienced several overseas reporting trips around the world including Africa, Asia and Europe. More recently he has worked as a freelance print, radio and video journalist for a number of Christian organisations including filming relief work in a number of disaster zones. Pete is married to Sharon and they have three lovely daughters. He enjoys travel and sport, especially running marathons and watching football. Transforming Europe – One at a time TeamLife updates

2015 Summer Camp All across Europe last summer our partners ran camps for children and young people, some for one week, others for longer. While there are too many to report individually these will give you a flavour of what happened.

Rachel Lee, CASA Grace Camp, Romania “The children all had an amazing time, many of them gave their lives to Jesus. It was such a privilege to share what Jesus had done for them, and see children and youths in tears as they realised, many for the first time, that they were loved by their Heavenly Father.”

Casa Grace Summer Camp Romania

Ruslan Telpiz, Gotesti, Moldova “We had 94 children aged between 8 and 14 years. But it went well, it was interesting, and we had fun. Everyone was happy, even the parents. What the parents like most is, as some said: ‘I don’t know what you do to them, but the children have changed a lot, they have a different attitude, they obey, are more disciplined, help more.’”

Transforming Church Partnerships Europe – One – An life Life inside at a look time

Reports Beredi Dusan Novi Sad, Serbia “At our evangelistic English camp, one new follower of Jesus said to his mother and brother over the phone: ‘Don’t talk! Just be quiet and listen!’ He handed a Serbian-speaking team member his mobile phone and said, ‘Tell them what you told me about Jesus!’ This type of reaction brings a smile to our faces. It is a sign of someone who has truly chosen to follow Jesus! Seven out of 28 nonchurch students said they made firsttime commitments. We also saw many others make major steps toward Christ. One student showed up to camp claiming to be an atheist, and left camp saying he wanted to talk more about Jesus and believed he would soon choose to give his life to follow Him.”

Have you ever considered sending a team to visit one of our partners? We have been sending teams for a number of years now and the feedback we get is always positive, both from the partners and from the teams. So, what does a typical team look like? In actual fact there is no typical team because of the wide variety of possibilities that we can offer. Over the last couple of years we have had teams involved in a number of outreach activities including gardening projects, summer camps for children and young people, puppet ministry, street evangelism, soup kitchens, Bible clubs and pampering for disadvantaged women. Most teams have 4–12 members although we have sent smaller and also larger teams. However, in all cases the key element is to have a leader who will take care of the organisation and who everyone will listen to! Normally a trip would last between 4–10 days depending on the project being worked on. Our partners can arrange local transport and accommodation so we can provide in country costs to enable a budget to be produced. We can also help to identify budget flights to ensure that the cost is kept to a reasonable level. Typically the cost per person is somewhere between £450–£500 as TEN doesn’t make any profit from teams which we run to benefit the people we care for. We have a lot of experience with planning for trips and will help in any way we can to ensure that your team is fully prepared for your trip. To this end we supply a trip pack, provide training before you go and hold a debrief after your return.

What’s going on in...

...Spain

S

pain comprises the major part of the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, as well as the Canary Islands off northwest Africa and the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla on the North African coast. The world’s mightiest economic power in the 16th Century, followed by three centuries of declines and economic stagnation until entry into the EU in 1986. The recession, which began in 2008 slowed economic growth significantly and Spain now has one of Europe’s highest unemployment rates. Christianity is the largest religion in the country, but only 1% claim to be Evangelical believers. However, Benjamin Martin’s ministry, Evangelismo En Accion (EEA), is working to reverse that trend, through a very holistic approach to reaching people of all ages from every aspect of society.

14

After the last regional elections changed the political landscape Benjamin has been working hard to foster good relationships with the authorities of the various towns and cities where EEA is involved in evangelistic activities. This past summer EEA coordinated nine children’s festivals, which enabled them to reach more young people, as Benjamin explains: “We made many new contacts whom we now want to visit and show warm friendship, as well as to offer literature and other evangelistic materials.” EEA’s ministry is also impacting the older generation and recently saw two elderly people come to Christ through their discipleship course in Velez-Malaga. During their Christmas outreach Benjamin’s team distributed 1,200 calendars, which included daily evangelistic meditations, in cities

Transform europe now / January – February 2016

where they have planted several churches. This is a good way of establishing new contacts and further personal relationships. Benjamin added: “We also hold special evangelistic events for children in our church in Torremolinos, Malaga called ‘Saturday Adventure,’ which often attract several Muslim families, who we warmly welcome.” The EEA team is deeply grateful for your support in prayer and practical contributions, helping them to meet the endless needs of their pioneering work and its consolidation in the extension of God’s Kingdom.
