Diversity & Inclusion

LGBTQ+

Transgrid openly supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex plus (LGBTQI+) employees in all aspects of workplace inclusion thus contributing to a safe, equitable and respectful work environment in which all employees can bring their whole selves to work.

Transgrid’s Ally Network represents a significant step towards creating an inclusive work environment that is safe, equitable and respectful in which all employees can bring their whole selves to work. An Ally is an employee who is aware of the issues faced by members of the LGBTIQ+ community and who supports a workplace that is inclusive. The Network is open to all employees; those who identify as LGBTQI+ and those who do not.

Transgrid’s Rise Ally Network supports LGBTQI+ inclusion at Transgrid, by:

• Raising awareness and promoting LGBTQI+ inclusion in the workplace.

• Promoting the use of LGBTQI+ inclusive language.

• Providing networking opportunities and events for Allies

• Providing learning opportunities for Allies

• Providing a platform through which we can promote and share our experience of LGBTQI+ inclusion externally, and learn from other organisations.

• Creating a visible presence of support for LGBTQI+ employees.

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders

Transgrid recognises that it has a significant role to play in reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We recognise that our transmission lines, substations and other assets exist on land that has belonged to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples for millennia before European settlement. We recognise the injustices perpetrated upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples over the past two centuries and the devastating impact this has had on communities, including disproportionate incarceration rates, reduced life expectancies and resulting in reduced access to opportunities.

Our vision for reconciliation is a future where educational and employment opportunities are of the same high standard as those enjoyed by other Australians, and a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People’s deep knowledge of and connection to the land is recognised,

respected and celebrated by all Australians. As we continue to develop our energy network we are in a unique position to play a part in nurturing a synergy with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities as we recognise that they hold great knowledge of, and have deep connections to the lands upon which those assets will exist.

Transgrid is committed to working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to connect, learn and create sustainable opportunities. Whilst we recognise inequality, we also do not want to diminish the achievements and resilience of Indigenous peoples and communities by only viewing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through a deficit perspective.

In 2023 we will be launching the next phase of our reconciliation journey with a Stretch RAP. RAP

Gender Equality

Transgrid is committed to providing equal opportunities for all staff.

Transgrid is committed to connect women, and their supporters, across the business. An employee-led network was created in 2021 called Energise and is just one initiative as part of Transgrid's D&I Strategy to improve Gender Diversity and Equality. The purpose of this network is to build stronger connections and support for women at Transgrid. Stronger together represents our vision to enhance a stronger connection for all. The Network was established to continue creating a fair and equitable workplace in which all employees have equal access to opportunity, and to develop and succeed in their career regardless of gender. Energise does this by hosting a range of different initiatives including:

Networking: Transgrid enables formal and informal networking. For example, members can connect via the platform to have a virtual coffee or to connect in person when working or visiting Transgrid’s offices, depots and sites.

Mentoring: Mentors post their profile on Energise and Mentees connect with Mentors.

Blogging: Employees can share information, articles, start conversations, ask questions on the Energise blog. This is a safe space as it is moderated by the D&I team and in the future will only be open to Members.

Panel & Speaker Events: Hear from inspirational speakers, leaders and Transgrid colleagues.
