About Transgrid

Transgrid operates and manages the high voltage electricity transmission network in NSW and the ACT. The network connects more than three million homes, businesses, and communities to a safe, reliable and affordable electricity supply.

Transgrid’s role within the National Electricity Market

The transmission network transports electricity from generation sources such as wind, solar, hydro, gas and coal power plants to large directly connected industrial customers and the distribution networks that deliver it to homes and businesses.

Transgrid’s NSW and ACT network consists of 126 substations and switching stations, over 13,000 kilometres of high voltage transmission lines, 109 kilometres of underground cables and five interconnections to QLD and VIC, the network is instrumental to the electricity system and economy and facilitates energy trading between Australia’s eastern states.

Graduate Program

Our two-year Graduate Program offers a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts, contribute to change-making projects and develop professional skills that will get your career off to a flying start. The program combines on the job learning with formal training opportunities to help you acquire the necessary skills and experience.

Our program:

• Take part in a two-year development program with four rotations tailored to your graduate stream

• Experience diverse and challenging responsibilities

• Follow a structured learning and development pathway Team up with a buddy who, as a former graduate, can help you navigate your first rotation

• Partner with an experienced mentor in your second year

Apprenticeship Program

The Apprenticeship Program is targeted at accelerating your development and providing you with the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects that will shape the future of the energy industry in Australia, including connecting renewable energy to the network. As an apprentice with Transgrid, you can look forward to hands-on learning and development in a supportive and stimulating environment.

We’re proud to currently offer three Apprenticeship Programs in a variety of technical disciplines leading to highly valued technical career paths in various locations throughout NSW.

Electrical Substation Technician Apprenticeship

As an Electrical Substation Technician Apprentice you will receive industry leading training and technical experience building, maintaining and running diagnostic test and repairs on high-voltage equipment ranging up to 500 kV transformer, circuit breakers and other primary and secondary plant.

You will also be working towards completing a Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Electrician and participating in Transgrid’s well established Substation Development Program, where you’ll develop specialised technical capabilities to become future substation technicians.

Transmission Lines Technician Apprenticeship

As a Transmission Line Technician Apprentice you’ll be at the forefront of the transition to clean energy. You will be building, maintaining, inspecting and repairing the largest transmission network in Australia.

All this while traveling to remote and unique locations, receiving training and experience from industry experts and working towards a Certificate III in ESI – Transmission Overhead.

Electronics and Communication Technician Apprenticeship

Our Electronics and Communication Technician Apprenticeship offers an opportunity to receive industry leading training in the installation, inspection, repairs and maintenance of electronic communications assets integral to the integration, protection and control of the Transmission Network.

You’ll be working to complete a Certificate III in Electronics and Communication whilst gaining technical skills in an ever evolving and cutting-edge digital environment.

The Transgrid Apprentice program will provide you with access to:

• Work alongside bright and incredibly curious teams that are transforming the energy industry

• Structured technical capability development programs in a variety of specialist areas

• Industry leading training in the trade of your choice

• Welding courses and hand-tools and workshop machinery skills

• Nationally accredited safety training and various high risk licences

• On the job training and supportive transition into the role

• Protective clothing and tools required for the job

• On completion of the apprenticeship you will receive a Certificate of Proficiency in your choice of trade

As a Transgrid Apprentice, you will benefit from:

• Starting salary package starting from $59,000 (includes 15.5% superannuation)

• An exciting and rewarding place to work with a friendly and open team oriented culture

• Nine-day fortnight

• A flexible workplace and leave provisions to encourage a healthy work/life balance

• 20 weeks Parental Leave (includes adoption) and 2 weeks Other Parent Leave

To be considered, you must have:

• Completed high school studies (minimum year 10 or equivalent) by the end of year prior to program commencing and have sound mathematics and communication skills

• A genuine interest in a trade working within a high-voltage electricity transmission network

• A current driver’s licence or be willing to obtain one as soon as possible after appointment

• Ability to travel and work away from home at various locations when required

Pre-Apprenticeship Program for Women

An opportunity to experience a highvoltage electrical trade

This is a great way to get a head start on your apprenticeship as an electrical tradesperson and learn whether the industry is right for you, before committing to a full apprenticeship. Our program includes two subjects that can be used as credit towards a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

Apply WHS regulations, code and practices in the workplace

Solve problems in single path circuits

• Five-week program

• Face-to-face study with further self-paced online learning

• Practical work experience at Transgrid worksites

• Tour of a Transgrid electrical substation

• Hands-on experience

• Wiring training

This is your opportunity to experience onsite training and learn new skills that could lead to the start of a great new career.

Summer Internship Program

Joining our Summer Internship Program, you will complete a 12-week internship with access to internal development opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and skills. We are looking for agile individuals who enjoy problem-solving, are goal-oriented and are committed to business excellence. You will be able to think laterally and will be a great communicator. A team player, you will build strong working relationships with your stakeholders and teams alike.

As a Transgrid summer intern you will:

Work alongside bright and incredibly curious teams that are transforming the Energy Industry

Develop professional skills that will set your career up within the energy industry and fast track you to our Graduate Program

To be considered, you must have:

• Currently studying a tertiary qualification in engineering, finance, business, economics or law, marketing or communications, construction and/or project management

• An Australian permanent resident or an Australian or New Zealand citizen
