Way back in August of 2021, while we were all collectively enjoying the first taste of a “semi-postCOVID” world, a unique little gift shop opened its doors in one of our historic storefronts. FINE is an art, culture, and lifestyle store focused on highlighting local and independent artists, designers, and creators. FINE is currently enjoying the steady flow of foot traffic in the heart of our bustling downtown, and gearing up for what’ll be our first much-anticipated mask-free summer, and all the busy chaos of the tourist season.

FINE is owned and operated by Charley Taylor, an Oceanside resident who’s worked hard to find herself fortunate enough to ride her bike to work every day. Originally from the Central Valley, Charley received her degree in art and was living her dream working in San Francisco, but after five years she was itching to get back to the place she’s called home since junior high.

Taylor described Fine as a modern art gallery and boutique. “This space was created specifically for Oceanside with handmade goods sourced and priced to reflect the community. This isn’t your typical, stuffy gallery that makes you feel like you can’t touch anything. I want every one that comes in to feel welcomed with a sense of belonging in a relaxed atmosphere.” After making over 23,000 sales on Etsy, Charley’s online business grew too large to operate out of her home, and she needed a space to house inventory and fulfill orders. When she found this location, her business quickly blossomed into a retail store with several employees and items from over 50 diverse makers. Her personal brands are CharleyTaylorArt (paintings, prints, and more), and STONED (astrological themed crystals).

The store is beautifully curated with everything from candles, home decor, apparel, and apothecary to her signature crystal starter kits. The walls are covered in available artwork with options for customizing frame size, material, and color. She carries a really fun array of greeting cards that are guaranteed to make you giggle, as well as notepads and other nostalgic paper products. Everything in the store is available for purchase online, and her Instagram stories showcase her latest inventory additions.
