Chunibyo

Overview
Chunibyo is originated from the Japanese network buzzwords, and it could be translated into Adolescent Delusions. However, it is a selfcognitive mentality, not a real disease. It could also be understood as an adolescent peculiar value for someone who live in their own world or always make self-satisfied words. Chinese has some characters close to it, but no one able to describe accurately what Chunibyo really is.
First appeared in radio program Izuin Hikari Shin ya no baka-Ryoku that presided by Japanese MC Izuin Hikari on January 11, 1999. At that time only Izuin Hikari and his audience used the word in dialogue, and it then gradually spread on the network diary, blog and BBS, become a network language, but then the definition was not very clear at that time.
Genre Illusionary Type Supernatural phenomenon enthusiasts, and they generally believe that there are some mysterious powers are sealed (mostly are the dark power) in their bodies. They always have so many weird thoughts, which are totally different with the real world.
This is the type have most people, and it has a strong connection with ACG: most Chunibyo in ACG is illusionary type, and illusionary type in real world are most impacted by ACG. The reason why the members like dark power is because they could discover self-identity and gain recognition from others through the attempt of being an unconventional and independent person.. For the young people who have just step into society, the reality is cruel and they must accept this brutal reality, so the pursuit of darkness and chaos is normal.
D.Q.N. Type
D.Q.N. is a fictitious word, a Japanese network buzzword, as a ACG forum processing, a n d g r ad u ally m e a n t h o s e c y n i cal bad c h ar acters, stupid kids or violent people. Sometimes it also refers those people who have no common sense, or so m e parents who give their children some weird names. However, different with the illusionary type, D.Q.N type appears more in real world.
Subculture Type Subculture is the one opposite with the mainstream culture, which is al ways judged by media, and it a l w a y s b e f a m o u s fo r a small amount of people. For Chunibyo, it means those people who wearing or dress up strange, or we can say people different with the place he/she grows up. However, what those people really want is just others understand and support for their hobby and themselves.
