THE JOURNEY SO FAR Quality, Commitment, Reliability: the founding principles of TransNet, a 100% New Zealand owned business incorporated in 2000.

TransNet started with just three staff members in July 2000, located in a small commercial unit in East Tamaki. Despite a limited product range we quickly took off and grew exponentially, prompting a move to a larger unit off Highbrook. We began exporting products to the Pacific islands and these export requirements meant more extensive stock holdings requiring much more space.

By 2004 it was clear we’d outgrown our premises and a larger facility was required. A lot of hard work and planning was undertaken to redevelop an existing building found just around the corner on Neilpark Drive, and on Christmas Eve of 2004 we enjoyed a team dinner at the new premises to celebrate a successful move.

Neilpark Drive saw the birth of the Switchgear division, the ECOLight LED Lighting division, and the Research & Development department, and by 2007 it was clear that yet again we needed more room to house these new developments.

Luckily, there was room for expansion, so extensions were undertaken and the warehouse space was maximised.

Late in 2009 we were offered dual distributorship of the local Raychem and Utilux agencies by TE Connectivity.

We designed and built a world class TE certified Raychem kitting room, added additional warehousing space, and expanded the R&D workshop. By March 2010 we were the sole New Zealand

distributor of the Raychem and Utilux ranges here in New Zealand with the only certified Raychem kitting room outside of TE Connectivity premises in the world – a feat we are very proud of.

A few years later we were bursting at the seams and in need of much more space.

One day in early 2015 we secured a site, and planning began for a purpose-built facility. Late October the following year saw us move to Cryers Road. The pride and joy of our new building is a fully functioning Micro Grid, with a 150kW solar farm generating all the energy we require to run our facility and the 30kW/130kWh smart storage system ensuring the most efficient use of that energy. When there is excess energy generated we even send it to the grid.

Our electric forklifts and wave pickers are charged by the solar energy we generate, and we installed light and motion sensors on all our LED lights to reduce energy consumption and extend their life. We capture and store up to 25,000l of rain water from our office roof in order to flush toilets, water gardens, wash vehicles, and clean the building, and we have begun composting to help feed our communal vegetable garden.

TransNet wouldn’t be here withou the support of our industry and lo community, so when we get the c we like to help in our own way. W industry we’ve been regular spon participants in events like the EEA Annual Connection, and ECANZ A of the Year, in addition to local ev our customers; in the community Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust Supporter, a Prostate Cancer Fou Supporter, and have assisted with like Elm Park School’s fundraising new IT equipment.

In the Pacific Islands we provide support through NZ Aid, and afte Christchurch earthquake we flew staff down to provide assistance a fully functioning kitting facility donated materials, and worked t ensure essential gear was manuf procured, and delivered urgently it was needed. When the call cam buy local after the COVID-19 lock we looked for more local manufa to support and used our platform them some extra attention.

Gaining ISO 14001 (Health, Safety, & Environment) and ISO 14064-1 (GHG Emission Management) certification in 2017 sparked a passion for us. We strived to keep improving and in 2019 our efforts were rewarded when we became Certified Carbon Neutral.

Some of the ways we’ve been helping include installing a solar farm, expanding our recycling scheme thus reducing our landfill collection by two thirds, introducing an EV fleet, collecting rainwater, reducing single use packaging materials and packaging overall, and reducing the delivery footprint of stock with our in-house delivery fleet.

We want to show that it's possible to minimise our impact without having to compromise our service levels. We're also assisting some of our customers on their own sustainability journey!

WHAT ARE WE MOST PROUD OF? • We work with our customers to ensure products meet their expectations on paper and in the field.

• We work hard to ensure we have extensive stock holdings and reliable procurement channels.

• We are always looking for newer, better, more cost effective (and local where possible) solutions.

• If there isn’t a solution already available off the shelf, we work with our customers to design, test and produce one that does everything they need.

• During new product development we look first to local suppliers for manufacturing, which has enabled several companies to expand and increase employment opportunities in their communities.

• We go the extra mile, whether that includes testing of products, designing & manufacturing products, onsite training, trouble shooting, or sourcing additional solutions.

• Our Carbon Neutral status – after thorough investigation we offset the remainder of our carbon emissions by choosing to assist a hydroelectric power station in a developing nation.

• The relationships we’ve maintained through 20 years in business that we foster through hosting industry events at our facility.
