SAVANNAH
Savannah, Georgia
This southern belle is such a charmer, with its veil of Spanish moss, its exotic mix of cuisines and its rich history. America’s first planned city, built in 1733 as a place of hope and refuge for the poor, General Sherman could not bring himself to destroy it during the Civil War, so he gave it to President Lincoln as a Christmas present. Stroll through the Historic Landmark District with its 22 park squares, museums, monuments, 18th-century homes, boutiques and restaurants. Enjoy a ferry ride on the Savannah River, and soak up the essence of River Street with its cobblestone streets complemented by repurposed centuries-old cotton warehouses. Do a tour to see locations from Forrest Gump, explore Bonaventure Cemetery and definitely dine or drink at the Pirates’ House, built in 1753.
