Interesting Facts About Majorca Majorca, or Mallorca is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago, in Spain. The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands.


The advantage Majorca has is that it is only a two hour flight from most major European Capitals London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Zurich and is a five hour Ferry ride from Denia and five hours on the fast-ferry from Barcelona both on the coast of mainland Spain.


The Balearic Islands consist of the four islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera Belonging to Spain, collectively they are the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, if not the world. Indeed, Majorca with it's year round tourism, culture, history, beautiful scenery and marvelous climate has welcomed holiday-makers since the early 1960's and today, is more popular than ever.


At 75 kilometers from North to South and 100 kilometers from East to West it's the largest of the Balearic Islands. Its current population is over 500,000 with most living in and around the city of Palma. This of course increases dramatically during the summer months, when many seasonal workers and tourists descend upon the island.

When To Visit


The Summer season runs from the 1st of May until the 31st October, although the city of Palma is popular for short breaks all year round. Winter is a lovely time to visit the island as activities such as hiking, climbing, sailing and touring cultural and historic areas can be enjoyed.


Weather In Majorca

The weather is what you would expect of such a tourist beach destination, the summers are hot and dry and the winters are mild and reasonably dry. At the height of the summer in July and August the daytime temperatures can reach 30âˆŤC which is more than hot enough for sunbathing without being too uncomfortable. There is little or no rain during these months though there may be the occasional summer storm which won't last more than a couple of hours. In winter the temperatures are still very


pleasant and this combined with a clear sky and sunny days allow locals and tourists alike to spend plenty of hours outside.Storms arrive in Mallorca very quickly and when they do, they can be spectacular.
