Historic Second Avenue Dining The Melting Pot - Unique Interactive Upscale Casual Dining
B
efore Nashville was “Nashville” somebody had to see the potential of what is now the hottest destination in the USA. Long before there was a football stadium, Country Music Hall of Fame or a Bridgestone Arena. Mark and Carla Rosenthal saw the potential in the redevelopment of Historic Second Avenue and Downtown Nashville. They were drawn by the natural beauty of the beautiful Victorian buildings that line Second Avenue. Though mostly abandoned at the time in 1994, they envisioned bringing the unique fondue style of dining to one of the limestone cellars that make up the basement levels of these buildings. The Rosenthal’s had fallen in love with the Melting Pot Fondue Restaurant as their favorite place to dine and as a business concept. Along with that passion they brought their expertise in restaurants, wine, marketing and years of personal savings to take a chance and realize their Nashville fondue dream.
Today The Melting Pot is where fun is cooked up fondue style. It is more than a restaurant, it has been a Nashville site for romance, to connect or reconnect, and has been recognized as Nashville’s Most Romantic Restaurant for 20 years by the Nashville Scene’s Readers Poll. Now located in the heart of Nashville’s entertainment district and tourist areas, The Melting Pot remains a favorite for romance, celebrations, and friendly business dinners.
The Melting Pot fondue menu offers a variety of four-course and à la carte menu options. Cheese fondues prepared tableside with custom artisan Emmi Roth cheeses. Crusty breads, soft pretzels, fruits, vegetables and Italian charcuterie are provided for your dunking pleasure. Unique fresh salads are served while your entrée fondue pot heats up. Guest simmer bite size morsels of steak, shrimp, lobster, chicken and more directly from flavored pots of broth or oil. All entrees are accompanied with a cornucopia of sauces and garden vegetables. Chocolate fondue is the finale served with a decadent array of dippers and craft cocktails, thoughtfully selected wines and brews round out the experience. The leisurely dinner inspires intimate rich conversation that brings you closer to family and friends. Mr. Rosenthal calls it the “Fondue Effect”. The Melting Pot is a must try in Nashville. Reservations are recommended.

Let the Pigs Fly! Jack’s BBQ
J
ack Cawthon’s Bar-B-Que has been a Nashville tradition since 1976 and is a crowd favorite as noted by the lines out the door on Broadway. Jack started on Broadway and now has three Nashville locations to serve the locals and the many visitors to the Music City; Broadway, Trinity Lane, and Charlotte Avenue. Jack began his journey in the catering business and soon became one of Nashville’s Society Caterers. However in the late 1970’s with the economic challenges faced from the recession, Jack remembered this quote from Henry Ford, “Cater to the masses and dine with the classes.” With these words Jack made the change from catering and went into the restaurant business. At this time Memphis was the BBQ hotspot where pork was king and sauce was the boss. After much travel and study, Jack came up with his own style of bar-b-que he wanted to offer and describes it as a combination of Texas and Tennessee BBQ; introducing beef brisket and regionally inspired sauces in Nashville. In 2014, Travel + Leisure Magazine rated Nashville #1 over Memphis as the best BBQ city in the USA. Jack certainly had a part in this and raised the bar making Nashville a national BBQ destination. Look for the Nashville tradition and the flying pigs sign over Broadway, where guests can dine on the patio by the back stage door of the historic Ryman Auditorium. Jack’s BBQ features six hickory smoked meats and six award winning sauces. Order yourself a plate, with two sides and bread and dig in! Whether you order the smoked Texas sausage, smoked Boston turkey, Texas beef brisket, Tennessee pork shoulder, smoked chicken, or St. Louis style ribs, you won’t be disappointed!

IF WALLS COULD TALK Grand Ole Opry House Tours Take Guests Behind the Scenes of Country Music’s Most Famous Show
At the heart of Nashville’s prominent music and entertainment scene is the show that made country music famous, the Grand Ole Opry. While the show returns to its historic former home, the Ryman Auditorium, for several performances a year, its permanent home is the Grand Ole Opry House. Located just outside of downtown Nashville, the Opry House is marking its fourth decade housing Opry performances. Opry Shows are held up to five nights a week and Grand Ole Opry House Backstage Tours run seven days a week. In addition to a walk through country music history backstage, tours include a step on the most famous stage in country music.
Get ready for your own visit backstage with some behind-the-scenes highlights below. I’m Just so Proud to Be Here: tHe oPry memBer Gallery

Every artist who has ever been a member of the Opry throughout its 92-year history is honored with a plaque in the Opry’s Member Gallery backstage. With plaques bearing names such as Patsy Cline, George Jones, and Vince Gill, it’s an honor artists do not take lightly. “The ultimate dream when you’re in country music is to be asked to join the Grand Ole Opry,” says Opry great Alan Jackson. “It’s the cornerstone of country music. I don’t know if Nashville or country music would exist if it wasn’t for this foundation, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
The Grand Ole Opry Post Office, a tradition carried over from the Ryman Auditorium, is one of the first stops for the Opry members on show nights. The boxes, where fans can easily send letters to their favorite members, have always been assigned to the members in alphabetical order with one exception. Late Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens’ box should have been found at the top row of boxes, but since that would have been a challenge for the 4’11” entertainer, his box was located on the fourth row down.
With dozens of musicians backstage on any given night at the Opry, the Grand Ole Opry House has plenty of dressing rooms to hold the masses of talented performers before they hit the stage. Opry member Trisha Yearwood shares that half the fun of a night at the Grand Ole Opry is spending time backstage in rooms like the Glitz and Glamour room. “Sitting backstage in the ‘girls’ makeup room is one of the best places to hang out,” Yearwood says. Whether it’s in the make-up chairs or passing in hallways, dozens of country music greats have met for the first time backstage at the Opry. Like the Glitz and Glamour room, each dressing room has symbolic and unique themes. Favorites include “Into the Circle,” which celebrates the moment when artists take the Opry stage for the very first time, and “It Takes Two,” which pays homage to country music’s top duet teams. So if you’re stomping around Nashville, be sure to scoot to the Opry House. Those boots of yours will be walking in the footsteps of Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, and more. More information on the Grand Ole Opry and Opry House Backstage Tours including money-saving combo packages is available at opry.com.

exclaimed Vanilla Ice. In fact, he has some surprises in store for those cruising. Vanilla Ice has some celebrity friends coming and he is going to have his own excursions like a beach party in Mexico with music on the beach, cervezas and margaritas and some type of casino party one night. Vanilla Ice remarked, “It’s going to be a great free for all, I encourage everyone to bring their fanny pack, dress like the 90’s, and bring your silly costumes like the ninja turtles. I’m even bringing a couple of costumes just to get silly and take pictures.” old you are, but while you are on the ship we are all officially teenagers until we get back to port to go home,”
