Batter’d & Fried Boston Seafood, Sushi & Oyster: “A Unique Seafood Experience” Every Popular Visitor Destination has a secret place where the locals love to go! Sure, Nashville has a lot of fun and exciting things for out-of-towners that should be on your list of must see things to do; the Country Music Hall of Fame, the honky-tonks on lower Broadway, the 24hour party atmosphere of downtown, and unusual foods from trendy restaurants! All of those things are great fun, but when you are ready for a little break from the tourist scene check out the place where the locals go. The place where Southern Hospitality, Food and Drink Specials and Happy Hours are still alive and well in Nashville! Batter’d & Fried Boston Seafood, Sushi, & Oyster is an East Nashville original

nestled in the heart of the local community called 5 points. Batter’d & Fried is a unique seafood experience with a familiar feel, casual atmosphere and a menu diverse enough for everyone to enjoy. Traveling with your family or a group can be hard enough let alone finding one place to eat with a menu that will satisfy everyone’s needs and tastes. Batter’d & Fried is Unique because it appeals to food lovers and even the pickiest of eaters. With its Hand Crafted sushi, grilled seafood entrees and Familiar American foods you can relax knowing that you chose a place for your friends and family that everyone will enjoy. And don’t let the name fool you, Batter’d & Fried cares about healthy choices as much as you do and only uses a heart healthy combination of Canola and Corn oils that are cholesterol and trans-fat free in their fryers. Cooking with these oils is even certified by the FDA “to reduce cholesterol and promote heart health.” And no local place would be complete without great food and drink specials like special days for Half Price Sushi, 2-4-1 Oysters and Happy Hours. Give us a call or stop in for details. For those who want something outside of the seafood realm Batter’d & Fried also serves burgers, chicken, and pasta dishes like our very popular Boston Burger, Chicken & Pasta Alfredo, and Farmers Greens salad just to name a
few. And parents can also rest easy knowing that they can get a well-crafted meal with complex flavor and artistry while giving their kids something delicious and familiar like Kraft macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, and French fries. But don’t worry, just because we are off the beaten path doesn’t mean that Five Points doesn’t have other attractions and plenty to see. You can drive by the childhood home of the Everly brothers, Oprah Winfrey’s High School, or a studio that Elvis Recorded in along with family-friendly shops and businesses, local artist galleries and many comfortable and one-of-a-kind restaurants – such as Drifters Tennessee BBQ Joint, featuring live local music on their huge outdoor patio, and Beyond the Edge Neighborhood Sports Bar & Grill (must be 21 to enter), with its 136 local, craft and popular beers and over 40 TVs to get your game on. Batter’d & Fried is the East Nashville getaway from downtown with a unique seafood experience for the whole family with diverse selections to meet everyone’s needs, preferences, and tastes. It’s even Nashville’s home for Redsox Nation. Go Sox! 1008 Woodland St., Nashville 37206 615-226-9283 www.batteredandfried.com www.travelhost.com

fter a day exploring the sites of Nashville, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Parthenon in Centennial Park, Nissan Stadium, and the Nashville Music Garden, stop into The Melting Pot for a delicious fondue dinner. You’ll find the Melting Pot restaurant on historic 2nd Avenue where the streets are lined with beautiful Victorian buildings in the heart of downtown Nashville’s entertainment district. Start your interactive dining experience with a cheese fondue prepared tableside, followed by a fresh salad with house-made dressings. Next is your entrée of tantalizing meats, seafood, and vegetables, served with your choice of cooking style and dipping sauces. And lastly comes dessert—a bubbling pot of chocolate fondue complete with decadent dippers like strawberries, marshmallows, and blondies. One bite of our delectable fondue dishes and you’ll understand why we have won multiple awards from OpenTable and Nashville Scene. The Melting Pot remains a favorite for romance, celebrations, and friendly business dinners. The leisurely dinner inspires intimate rich conversation that brings you closer to family and friends. Mark Rosenthal, owner of the Melting Pot, calls it the “Fondue Effect”. The Melting Pot is a must try in Nashville. Valet parking is available throughout the week for low rates. Let the Pigs Fly! Jack’s BBQ
J
ack Cawthon’s Bar-B-Que has been a Nashville tradition since 1976 and is a crowd favorite as noted by the lines out the door on Broadway. Jack started on Broadway and now has three Nashville locations to serve the locals and the many visitors to the Music City; Broadway, Trinity Lane, and Charlotte Avenue. Jack began his journey in the catering business and soon became one of Nashville’s Society Caterers. However in the late 1970’s with the economic challenges faced from the recession, Jack remembered this quote from Henry Ford, “Cater to the masses and dine with the classes.” With these words Jack made the change from catering and went into the restaurant business. At this time Memphis was the BBQ hotspot where pork was king and sauce was the boss. After much travel and study, Jack came up with his own style of bar-b-que he wanted to offer and describes it as a combination of Texas and Tennessee BBQ; introducing beef brisket and regionally inspired sauces in Nashville. In 2014, Travel + Leisure Magazine rated Nashville #1 over Memphis as the best BBQ city in the USA. Jack certainly had a part in this and raised the bar making Nashville a national BBQ destination. Look for the Nashville tradition and the flying pigs sign over Broadway, where guests can dine on the patio by the back stage door of the historic Ryman Auditorium. Jack’s BBQ features six hickory smoked meats and six award winning sauces. Order yourself a plate, with two sides and bread and dig in! Whether you order the smoked Texas sausage, smoked Boston turkey, Texas beef brisket, Tennessee pork shoulder, smoked chicken, or St. Louis style ribs, you won’t be disappointed!

Decadent DESSERTS
Desserts are rich and creamy, delightfully tasty, and in some cases spectacular works of art almost too good to eat. The definition of decadent is something that can be luxurious, self-indulgent, or extremely pleasing. Couple decadent with desserts and you have something that is ‘sinfully’ delicious! While you are out exploring Nashville, take a moment to enjoy one of these most ‘decadent desserts” and savor every sweet bite!

Tennessee State Museum
n 2018, a bold new vision for the Tennessee State Museum was realized when it opened on the northwest corner of Rosa L. Parks Blvd. and Jefferson Street at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. It’s the first and only building in the Museum’s 81-year history dedicated exclusively for its use. Now housed in a 137,000-square-foot facility, the new location is built with the visitor in mind, with ample room to engage with history and the Museum’s vast collection of art and artifacts.
The permanent exhibitions pull from that collection of artifacts and begin with a trip through the Tennessee Time Tunnel. From the state’s early geological development and First Tennesseans and on to Forging a Nation, visitors learn about Southeastern Indians and Overmountain People, enslaved and free African Americans, the Creek War and War of 1812, Andrew Jackson, the Trail of Tears, President Polk, westward expansion, and more. The Tennessee State Museum’s Civil War holdings are some of the finest in the nation, and a significant part of the permanent exhibition will focus on the War and Recon-

struction. Following the Civil War, visitors explore “Change and Challenge,” the Spanish-American War, WWI, Woman Suffrage, the Great Depression, the New Deal and World War II. “Tennessee Transforms” takes guests through the post-war era in Tennessee, through Civil Rights and up to the present day. The permanent exhibitions are also be highly visual and interactive, with introductory films in every gallery, soundscapes, and touch screens and tables where visitors can discover Civil War battles, hear a soldier’s story and learn about significant individuals from counties throughout the state. Six temporary galleries, housed on the second floor and open now, provide an opportunity for the Museum to tell even more stories. In the Curb Music Gallery, The State of Sound: Tennessee’s Musical Heritage uses artifacts, images, performance costumes and audio-visual media to introduce you to the stories of the people, places and events that transformed Tennessee into an internationally celebrated music center.
Tennessee and the Great War: A Centennial Exhibition explores the state’s role in the Great War. Also open are Early Expressions: Art in Tennessee before 1900, In Search of the New: Art in Tennessee since 1900, Why Do Museums Collect? and Red Grooms: A Retrospective. On the first floor of the Museum is the Children’s Gallery, education center and the 250-seat Digital Learning Center (DLC). The Children’s Gallery provides a learn-though-play environment where children can traverse the entire state learning what is special in the history and geography of the three grand divisions of West, Middle and East Tennessee. The DLC is the home for lectures, discussions, films and more. The new Tennessee Museum Store features plenty of local products and crafts from Tennessee makers. Also exciting is the location of the Museum at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, at the corner where Germantown meets North Nashville, just a few blocks from First Tennessee Park, where the Nashville Sounds play. The entrance from the Park features a Grand Hall, and the second-floor curved outside veranda gives guests a perfect view of downtown Nashville and the State Capitol. There is free parking and wide open spaces for children to play. The Museum is free for all visitors. Please visit tnmuseum.org for more information. www.travelhost.com
