It’s summertime in Indiana, and the living isn’t just easy. In Chesterton it’s also festive!
Come to Chesterton and celebrate the art of living by making your whole weekend an event. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, stroll the European Market in the historic Downtown—voted the No. 1 Farmers Market in Indiana and No. 5 in the Midwest—and enjoy the color and fragrance of fresh local produce; baskets and hampers of artisanal comestibles; and a superb selection of handcrafted body care products and accessories. There’s always live music too and tasty fare to savor in the leafy glades of Thomas Centennial Park.
Then, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, search the Upsadaisy Market for your next great find. Is that empty space on your wall or shelf niggling you? Choose from outstanding wood-, fabric-, and metalwork; vintage curios and retro curiosities; distinctive jewelry and compelling art. The Upsadaisy gathers Northwest Indiana’s vanguard makers and most discerning connoisseurs, adds a band and a couple of food trucks, and throws an objets d’art party.
Every summer weekend in Chesterton is a happening. But be sure to save Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6-7, for the 63rd annual Chesterton Art Fair, held in beautiful Dogwood Park. For more than half a century, the Chesterton Art Fair has been attracting artists and collectors from across the Midwest and beyond, for a convivial celebration of all that is fine and lovely. More than 80 artists in every conceivable medium will be showcasing their pieces this year, food vendors will keep you well fed, musicians will delight you, and the kids will find activities to appeal to them as well. Free parking.
69 And there’s more.64 From 3 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday, the Coffee Creek Farmers Market—only five minutes from Downtown Chesterton—features truly local farmers and specialty food producers, all of whom grow and make what they sell, from organic vegetables to Shiitake mushrooms, from stone-baked loaves to goat milk soap. And from 5 to 9 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of the month through September, the Chesterton Cruise-In invites classic car buffs to showcase their boss wheels and custom rides in the Downtown. The road is closed for comfortable viewing and a DJ’s on hand to spin the platters. Swing by in your own jalopy or just make the scene, for an evening of car talk, chrome, and nostalgia. Come to Chesterton this summer, and be part of an event. Or be part of all of them.
